Chapter 85

Lin Xiaoran hadn’t expected Gu Yang to burst in so suddenly. He had just started to feel uncomfortable with the fluffy fox ears on his head and, feeling a bit embarrassed, he tilted his head to touch them. Just then, Gu Yang walked in.

Gu Yang looked utterly stunned, staring directly at Lin Xiaoran’s head, and the way he was staring made Lin Xiaoran even more uncomfortable. He almost wanted to rip the ears off and throw them far away.

However, he bit his lip and decided to endure it.

Ever since that year at Gu Yang’s company’s fourth anniversary celebration, when Lin Xiaoran realized how bad he was at creating surprises for Gu Yang, he had made an effort to change. Though the progress had been slow, he had tried to do things differently. In the past, he would simply buy whatever he thought Gu Yang needed, but in recent years, he had put more thought into his birthday gifts.

This year, he knew that Gu Yang would definitely be surprised by what he had planned.

Gu Yang had once told him that when he was in high school, he had a dream where Lin Xiaoran turned into a fox with sharp ears and a tail. For a while, Gu Yang had been fixated on dressing him up like that and even bought the props. When he tried to show Lin Xiaoran, he had been sent flying off the bed, props and all.

After that, Gu Yang never mentioned it again, but Lin Xiaoran could tell that Gu Yang still secretly wished he would wear them one day. So, despite planning to throw the props away when he found them recently, Lin Xiaoran hesitated because it was almost Gu Yang’s birthday, and he hadn’t figured out what else to give him.

Lin Xiaoran had always been known for his intelligence, especially in school where he was a top student at Tsinghua. After graduating, he became one of the youngest and most renowned surgeons in the country. But when it came to creating surprises for others, his imagination had always been lacking. Ever since he realized he wasn’t putting enough thought into his gestures for Gu Yang, he had tried to make an effort. But, every time he tried, it felt as difficult as performing a high-risk surgery.

Now, knowing Gu Yang would like it, Lin Xiaoran didn’t need to think too much about it. He simply put on the ears.

However, with Gu Yang staring at him so blatantly, Lin Xiaoran felt extremely embarrassed. His heart started to beat erratically, his cheeks flushed with heat. He tried to hide his discomfort but couldn’t avoid the growing awkwardness. Finally, he looked up at Gu Yang, his soft pink lips parting as he hurriedly said, “You’ve seen the gift, right? I’ll take it off now.”

Just as he reached to remove the fox ears, Gu Yang snapped out of his daze. Without a word, he lunged forward and pinned Lin Xiaoran against the wall, grabbing his hand.

“Wait, wasn’t this your birthday gift? You should wear it a little longer,” Gu Yang said, his voice tinged with disappointment as he trailed his hand down Lin Xiaoran’s back, “And… where’s the tail?”

Lin Xiaoran’s face turned an even deeper shade of red. He grabbed Gu Yang’s waist and pinched him hard, “I threw it away. Don’t push your luck!”

The ears were one thing, but Lin Xiaoran couldn’t understand why Gu Yang had the nerve to buy a tail. What kind of weird hobby was that?

Gu Yang didn’t feel the pinch at all; in fact, he was absolutely thrilled. No tail? It didn’t matter. He had Lin Xiaoran. The key was that Lin Xiaoran had actually worn the fox ears for him.

Lin Xiaoran, fresh from his bath, still had a soft, damp aura about him, and with the fluffy ears on his head, he looked irresistibly cute and alluring. Moreover, Lin Xiaoran’s embarrassed blush and refusal to meet his gaze only made Gu Yang want him even more.

Gu Yang gently pinched the fox ears, making Lin Xiaoran’s face even redder. Lin Xiaoran seemed to think it was too much, so he suddenly looked up and shot Gu Yang a glare.

Unfortunately, Lin Xiaoran’s attempt at a glare had no effect. In fact, it only made Gu Yang’s desire flare up even more. He swiftly swept Lin Xiaoran into his arms, spun around, and dropped onto the bed.

The scent of cedarwood and pheromones flooded the air as Lin Xiaoran, now marked, released the sweet aroma of iced pear, mingling with Gu Yang’s scent, creating an intoxicating mix.

Everything seemed to be progressing smoothly, just as it should.

But then Gu Yang reached for the bedside drawer, only to find it empty. His impatience flared, and he cursed under his breath, “Damn!”

The soft Omega in his arms was jolted back to reality by the curse. He turned his head and immediately understood the situation.

They had moved today, and the items that were supposed to be in the drawer were now missing.

Since the day Gu Yang had witnessed the birth of their child, he had sworn never to let Lin Xiaoran risk pregnancy again. From that moment on, Gu Yang refused to engage in any intimacy without protection.

So…

Lin Xiaoran couldn’t help but chuckle, intentionally teasing Gu Yang, “Yang-ge, go wash up and get some rest.”

Gu Yang: “…”

Seeing the mischievous grin on Lin Xiaoran’s face, paired with the fluffy fox ears on top of his head, he looked exactly like a cunning little fox. But, unfortunately, he couldn’t indulge his fox instincts right now.

He couldn’t, because he never wanted to put Lin Xiaoran through the agony of pregnancy again—he had witnessed firsthand the excruciating pain Lin Xiaoran endured during childbirth. It was a pain that had made him lose control and scream out for the first time in his life. Gu Yang had held his hand through it all, and Lin Xiaoran had dug his nails into Gu Yang’s flesh so deeply that it left marks. It was also the first time Gu Yang had cried, repeatedly apologizing in Lin Xiaoran’s ear, “I’m sorry, baby, I’m sorry.”

Recalling that moment, Lin Xiaoran smiled softly, silently calling Gu Yang a “fool” in his heart.

But that tenderness faded quickly when Gu Yang suddenly had an idea. His amber eyes brightened, and he exclaimed, “I remember now! I bought it today. Wait for me, baby!” With that, he leaped off the bed and rushed out of the room.

His speed was so quick that it could rival a sprinter during a race, revealing just how anxious he was.

Lin Xiaoran slid deeper into the covers, unable to suppress his laughter. He remembered the day three years ago when he had given birth to their child, with Gu Yang by his side in the delivery room.

The process had gone smoothly, but the pain was inevitable. Even though Lin Xiaoran could handle the discomfort of his heats, the agony of childbirth had been unbearable. It was the first time he had ever lost control and screamed from the pain. He wasn’t aware of what Gu Yang had done during the delivery, but when he regained consciousness, he realized he had been gripping Gu Yang’s hand so tightly that his nails had dug into Gu Yang’s skin. Gu Yang had just held him, tight and steady, and Lin Xiaoran distinctly remembered feeling warm tears soaking into his shoulder through his clothes.

It was the first time he had seen Gu Yang cry, and the latter had whispered endlessly in his ear, “I’m sorry, baby, I’m sorry…”

A soft, tender smile lingered on Lin Xiaoran’s face as he reminisced, murmuring under his breath, “Fool…”

However, that moment of tenderness vanished as quickly as it had appeared when Gu Yang returned, proudly holding a value pack of supplies, eagerly announcing, “The supermarket had a promotion—buy one get one free, so I bought a little extra.”

Lin Xiaoran rolled his eyes.

Gu Yang, grinning, pounced onto the bed and hugged him. Though eager, he still managed to sneak in a little justification, “We have to be frugal. And with how much we use, buying one get one free is a great deal!”

Lin Xiaoran: “…”

Lin Xiaoran would have kicked him off the bed along with the “value pack” if it weren’t for the fact that it was his birthday. But as it was, he just felt exhausted, while Gu Yang was completely satisfied.

Gu Yang was indeed pleased. Ever since the little one had arrived, there was always someone to help around the house, and the little one often snuggled between them at night, making it hard for Gu Yang to get any privacy. And today, Lin Xiaoran had made such a big gesture to surprise him.

In truth, when he had bought the supplies, it had been a spur-of-the-moment decision, knowing that Lin Xiaoran would never agree. But he never expected his Omega to give him such a big surprise.

As he looked down at the exhausted man in his arms, Gu Yang couldn’t resist pinching the fox ears again. Tomorrow morning, they wouldn’t be there, and he felt a small pang of regret in his heart.

The next morning, Gu Yang was woken up by a fuzzy sensation. Half-awake, he rubbed his chin, where something soft and warm was nuzzling against him. Before he could speak, he instantly snapped into full consciousness. Looking down, he saw Lin Xiaoran still sound asleep, his movements from earlier merely adjusting to find a more comfortable position.

However…

Gu Yang’s gaze fell on the furry ears that were poking out from his fingers. He blinked his amber eyes in confusion.

This feeling… it didn’t seem fake.

In his sleepy haze, he had accidentally rubbed the ears, but they didn’t fall off.

No way…

His heart began to race for no apparent reason, and he carefully released the ear from his grip, gently pushing back Lin Xiaoran’s hair.

Gu Yang: “!”

Was he dreaming? Were the ears real?

Lin Xiaoran had actually grown two fluffy fox ears.

Could it be because of his thoughts from last night?

Then… would a tail appear as well?

His hand immediately slipped under the covers, moving toward Lin Xiaoran’s backside.

The soft, fuzzy texture caused Gu Yang to freeze for a moment.

At the base of his tailbone, a fluffy fox tail had indeed grown.

“Mm~”

It seemed that the tail’s movement had disturbed Lin Xiaoran’s sleep. He furrowed his brow and let out a protest from his nose, and the tail in Gu Yang’s grasp suddenly began to twitch.

Gu Yang jumped up in shock and threw off the covers.

Lin Xiaoran, wearing only one of Gu Yang’s shirts, had a fluffy tail protruding from the hem, swaying unconsciously.

Gu Yang’s heart raced as he stared, overwhelmed by shock and desire.

Before he could act on it, Lin Xiaoran woke up, shivering from the cold.

He opened his foggy eyes, glaring at Gu Yang, “What the heck? Why are you being so weird?”

“Oh, sorry.” Gu Yang quickly covered him with the blanket but then suddenly seemed to notice something odd. “Hey… Xiaoran, don’t you notice anything different about yourself?”

Just as Gu Yang spoke, he clearly saw Lin Xiaoran’s ears twitch, likely a reflex to the sound.

Lin Xiaoran, clearly still half-asleep, grabbed the blanket to cover his face and turned over to continue sleeping. But as he rolled over, he finally realized something was different with his body.

He shot up instantly, pulling the covers off and turning to see the fluffy tail behind him.

Even for someone as oblivious as Lin Xiaoran, he was stunned for several seconds.

He stared coldly at Gu Yang and asked, “What did you do?”

Uh…

Gu Yang quickly shook his head, though he felt a little guilty and scratched his head, “I just… thought about it for a moment.”

Lin Xiaoran shot him a glare.

But he also knew this couldn’t have happened just because Gu Yang had thought about it—logically, that was impossible.

The most frustrating part was that his body seemed to instinctively control his ears and tail. The tail kept swishing behind him, and Gu Yang couldn’t stop staring. Lin Xiaoran’s ears grew hot from embarrassment, and he shot him an irritated glare, “What are you staring at?”

Gu Yang, now focused on his tail, couldn’t help himself and brushed it. Lin Xiaoran shuddered, quickly stopping him, “Don’t touch the tail! What are you even saying? Fox spirit?”

But Gu Yang was clearly lost in his own delight. If he couldn’t touch the tail, he moved on to the ears, speaking with an entirely carefree tone, “Well, if you’re a fox spirit, does that mean our little one, Gu Ran, might be a little fox too?”
