Chapter 9

In the room, there was only the sound of the pen scratching on paper.

Lin Xiaoran quietly leaned over the table, and several completed scrolls lay beside him.

However, these scrolls were different from the ones before. He wrote down the solution steps for both multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions.

During dinner, Gu Xiuyuan suddenly suggested that he encourage Gu Yang to study. Lin Xiaoran was not willing, but considering the relationship between Lin Lan and Gu Xiuyuan, he swallowed the refusal that was about to come out. He obediently agreed.

At that time, he had another idea. He thought Gu Yang would definitely refuse.

Firstly, judging from Gu Yang’s usual attitude, he had no intention of studying at all. Moreover, since Gu Yang looked down on him, he probably wouldn’t want to study with him.

Secondly, given the poor relationship between Gu Yang and Gu Xiuyuan, it was highly unlikely that he would obediently comply.

So, after nodding in agreement, he sat waiting for Gu Yang to refuse.

To his surprise, when Gu Yang, who was focused on eating, put down his chopsticks, he said, “Then I’ll trouble you in the future,” with a polite and courteous attitude, looking like a good kid eager to study.

Lin Xiaoran: “…”

He stared at Gu Yang with clear eyes, suspecting that he might be hearing things.

But evidently not.

After Gu Yang finished speaking and turned to go upstairs with White Sugar, Gu Xiuyuan immediately started expressing his gratitude, as if Gu Yang had already improved his grades by three hundred points.

After dinner, when he returned to his room, Lin Xiaoran still felt that something was strange. Gu Yang shouldn’t have agreed, but why did he?

He couldn’t have agreed just to spite him, like changing seats the other day, right?

Gu Yang couldn’t be that boring, could he?

He couldn’t draw a conclusion on this matter for now, but since he had already spoken, he could only teach. After all, he didn’t want to be someone who didn’t keep his word.

However, even though he excelled academically, he wasn’t good at teaching others. After thinking for a while, he decided to write down the solution steps in more detail so that Gu Yang could understand on his own.

After finishing the homework around eleven o’clock, he finally got up and went out.

Gu Yang’s room was right across from his. He raised his hand and knocked.

The door opened shortly after. Gu Yang stood inside, playing games on his phone, and there was the urgent voice of Chen Hongqiang coming from the phone: “Yang Ge, help me, help me! Damn it, I died. Yang Ge, what are you doing? Is it human to AFK at this time?”

Gu Yang ignored him, tossed his phone onto the bed, and leaned against the door, looking at Lin Xiaoran with some surprise. “What’s wrong? Is something missing?”

His question was sincere, considering that Lin Xiaoran was currently a guest in their house. As the host, he needed to act like one. Besides, he couldn’t think of any other reason why Lin Xiaoran would come to him voluntarily.

As the words fell, Lin Xiaoran pointed to the test paper in his hand and said, “Take a look first, and ask if you don’t understand.” After that, he handed the test paper over.

Gu Yang was a bit surprised, paused for a second, and reached out to take it, saying, “Thanks.”

Lin Xiaoran didn’t say anything, nodded, turned around, and went back to his room.

Gu Yang looked at him closing the door, and as he lowered his head to read the test paper, he couldn’t help but feel a bit unusual. Lin Xiaoran shouldn’t have agreed. Still, why did he?

Actually, during dinner, he agreed to Gu Xiuyuan’s proposal because he didn’t want to deal with the long lecture he’d get if he refused. He also had another thought at that time; he believed Gu Yang would never agree.

Firstly, based on Gu Yang’s usual attitude, he showed no interest in studying. Moreover, since Gu Yang looked down on him, he probably wouldn’t want to study with him.

Secondly, given the poor relationship between Gu Yang and Gu Xiuyuan, he was almost certain that he wouldn’t obediently comply.

Gu Yang looked at him closing the door, and as he lowered his head to read the test paper, he couldn’t help but feel a bit unusual. Lin Xiaoran shouldn’t have agreed. Still, why did he?

As for whether he learns or not after agreeing, isn’t that up to him?

But unexpectedly, while he didn’t take it seriously, Lin Xiaoran took it seriously.

I don’t know what happened, but suddenly his mind showed an image of Lin Xiaoran sitting alone under a tree in the evening. He, struggling with the torment of heat, was trembling slightly.

Must be uncomfortable, right?

Although Gu Yang is not an Omega and doesn’t experience heat, he learned in middle school hygiene class that during the heat, Omegas must use suppressants or other methods to alleviate it; otherwise, it would be a great torment for them.

And Lin Xiaoran, who had just come out of such torment, had actually written so many solution steps for him.

The more Gu Yang thought about it, the more guilty he felt. His body, not obeying him, sat down at the desk and took out a few crumpled scrolls from his bag, unfolding them and picking up a pen to start solving problems.

After filling in a “C,” he realized what he was doing, quickly threw the pen away, and turned to lie down on the bed to sleep.

Is the aftermath of the temporary mark so severe? Even Lin Xiaoran’s words, he had to follow?

Too scary!

Isn’t it said that marked Omegas become dependent on Alphas? How come he didn’t see this in Lin Xiaoran and instead felt himself becoming more abnormal?

Could it be that latent Omegas are different from regular Omegas?

Since he couldn’t sleep, he picked up his phone and searched for latent Omegas.

This term he heard for the first time today. Even in the hygiene textbook before, he hadn’t come across it, so he had no understanding at all.

In fact, there isn’t much information online about latent Omegas, and much of it is speculative. Only one doctor who specializes in studying latent Omegas seems more reliable.

He said that latent Omegas, in general, are not much different from regular Omegas. They are still influenced by Alpha pheromones and submit to powerful Alphas due to gender relations. However, because their pheromones cannot be smelled by others, they basically cannot encounter Alphas who match them in their entire lives. They have to endure the torment of heat that cannot be relieved for a lifetime, and the pain among them is something that those who haven’t experienced it cannot empathize with.

In the darkness, the faint light of the phone shone on Gu Yang’s well-defined face. He held the phone with his fingertips, exerting a slight force, and the joints turned a bit pale.

Here it comes again.

After learning about the torment Lin Xiaoran would go through, he began to feel uncomfortable again, as if he, as an Alpha, had failed to protect his Omega.

This is damn ridiculous!

The above didn’t mention that latent Omegas are the same as regular Omegas, right? So his current state should be a normal reaction after the temporary mark, right?

He didn’t like this kind of reaction, so he tossed his phone aside, dismissed these strange thoughts, and went to sleep.

So he also didn’t see the following paragraph: Although the vast majority of latent Omegas cannot encounter Alphas that perfectly match them for a lifetime, there are very few exceptions. They can meet an Alpha that is 100% compatible with them. The Alpha can not only smell pheromones that only professional equipment can detect but also, due to the mark, develop a strong protective instinct towards the Omega. This protective instinct is several times stronger than a regular AO mark.

Knowing nothing, Gu Yang finally fell asleep after tossing and turning all night and managed to sleep until noon, missing the morning classes.

He wasn’t in a hurry. He got up, took a shower, washed his hair, blow-dried it, went downstairs to have lunch, and lazily left the house when the afternoon classes had already started.

Anyway, he wasn’t going to class. Time is just numbers to him. He even considered whether to call Chen Hongqiang and the others to go online when passing by the internet cafe.

At that moment, his phone rang.

Lin Xiaoran?

Yesterday, he got Lin Xiaoran’s number from Chen Hongqiang, although he didn’t get through, he saved it.

But Lin Xiaoran actually had his number, which was quite surprising.

And now it’s during class time; it’s strange for Lin Xiaoran to call at this time.

Thinking about it, he pressed the answer button, and before he could speak, Lin Xiaoran’s voice came through, “Can you come to school?”

“… ” Why is Lin Xiaoran not only writing solution steps for him but also caring about whether he goes to class or not? It’s too much, right?

While Gu Yang complained in his heart, he blurted out, “What’s wrong?”

“I need suppressants, and your scent is back,” Lin Xiaoran’s voice was crisp.

Couldn’t he buy suppressants from the school’s convenience store? Gu Yang mocked in his mind, but his mouth didn’t listen to his brain at all. “Okay, I can be there in five minutes. Find a place to hide for now?”

“I’m in the restroom; come directly when you arrive.” After saying that, Lin Xiaoran hung up.

At this moment, he was sitting alone in a stall in the restroom, staring at the phone screen with clear eyes, feeling a bit puzzled.

He could have just gone to the convenience store to buy suppressants. But when he realized it, he had already called Gu Yang.

Is this the dependence of Omega on Alpha after being marked?

Kind of annoying.

He pursed his lips, ready to forget the phone call just now and go buy suppressants himself.

However, as soon as he stood up, the restroom door was suddenly pushed open, and Gu Yang appeared at the entrance.

He was sweating all over, and even his school uniform was soaked. It was clear he had been running all the way.

Seeing Lin Xiaoran, he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. Leaning against the door frame, he panted, and the sweat on his forehead slid down his prominent nose, hanging in the air, hesitant to fall.

Lin Xiaoran looked at him, feeling a bit strange for some reason, as if it was a joy of being protected.

Kind of cheesy.

He quickly averted this strange feeling and reached out, “Give me the suppressants.”

At this moment, Gu Yang, seeing Lin Xiaoran standing there perfectly fine, also calmed down a bit. He felt a bit silly for running over just now.

But he wouldn’t admit it. He directly took out the suppressants from his backpack and threw them to Lin Xiaoran.

Lin Xiaoran took them, lowered his head, and sprayed them onto the gland.

At this moment, footsteps suddenly echoed in the corridor, approaching the restroom. Probably a classmate couldn’t hold it and came out to use the facilities.

Lin Xiaoran hesitated for a moment, considering whether he should hide. Just then, an Alpha, standing at the door, quickly rushed over. He grabbed Lin Xiaoran’s wrist, pulled him into one of the stalls, and slammed the door shut, locking it with a snap.
