Chapter 15
Ye Zhi was originally nervous, and upon hearing this sentence, he almost knocked over the coffee machine in front of him. It took him a while to calm down. Ye Zhi whispered, “Thank you.”
Deep down, however, he knew that Huo Youcheng’s return wouldn’t change much. Their marriage had been on shaky ground since its inception. Huo Youcheng’s willingness to marry him was more of a deliberate retaliation than a result of coercion.
Controlling the Ye family’s finances was a form of psychological punishment for him.
After thoroughly understanding his weak character.
As the coffee gradually brewed, Ye Zhi added sugar and milk, not sure if he was absent-minded or acting subconsciously. He even made a simple leaf-shaped latte art on top with the milk.
When he realized what he had done, Ye Zhi was taken aback.
It was an inappropriate gesture.
In the midst of embarrassment, Huo Youqiao reached out his long arm and picked up the coffee cup, carefully examining the latte art on top. Suddenly, he said, “Not bad skills.”
His voice was deep, and his tone was unusually relaxed, even with a hint of humor.
Ye Zhi felt a bit awkward being praised, and he stepped back slightly, whispering, “Thank you…” As the man walked away, he couldn’t help adding, “It’s better not to drink too much coffee at night, as it can cause insomnia.”
He didn’t know why he said this extra remark, and afterwards, he felt like he had overstepped.
Huo Youqiao’s actions should not be commented on by him, even if it was well-intentioned.
He thought Huo Youqiao wouldn’t pay any attention to it, but unexpectedly, the other man turned back and glanced at him, saying, “Thank you.”
Once he left, Ye Zhi’s tense body relaxed slightly.
The thought of Huo Youcheng possibly coming back the next day made Ye Zhi unable to sleep, even though he hadn’t drunk any coffee. He actually went to bed early every day. Ye Zhi led a simple life; he had no friends and didn’t go out for entertainment. His communication device was only used for making calls and sending messages, and he rarely went online except to look up recipes. He seldom watched TV dramas and had no concept of current popular stars. At the age of twenty-seven, he lived like someone seventy-two, with his only hobbies probably being listening to music and reading.
But even the enjoyment of these hobbies couldn’t be found tonight.
The bookmark was stuck in the book, unable to move on to the next edition, and though the words were clearly visible, he couldn’t grasp their meaning in his mind. After struggling for a long time, Ye Zhi couldn’t focus on the content, so he had to close the book and turn off the light to try to sleep.
But drowsiness didn’t come. Ye Zhi lay awake, staring into the darkness of the room, not knowing how much time had passed. The communicator beside his pillow rang.
He had set the communicator’s volume very low, but because the surroundings were too quiet, the ringing still made Ye Zhi feel jumpy. He quickly picked up the communicator and saw the name on it, giving him a bad premonition.
The caller’s name was “Zhou Shaohui.”
It was his father.
Five minutes after answering the call, Ye Zhi had changed out of his pajamas, hurriedly stuffed his wallet into his pocket, and walked to the door. Then he remembered something, turned back, and took his salary card from the cabinet before leaving.
