Chapter 180
He was unwilling to accept it, unwilling to let go.
So much so that he forgot all the times Huo Youqiao had whispered “I’m here” in his ear.
The atmosphere in the room was tense and cold. Due to the etiquette of the Huo family, unless it was a matter of great importance, no one would disturb them. Thus, the two had enough time and space to resolve this matter.
Huo Youcheng finally spoke, his voice cold. “I have no interest in someone who has no feelings for me. Just seeing your face makes me sick! But I won’t let you two off the hook either!”
He sneered, “I want you to leave, far away. Never show up in front of the Huo family again, even if Huo Youqiao tries to find you by every means! You damn well better hide, otherwise, I’ll expose your dirty secrets!”
The planet’s land was vast. It was said that in the distant past, there were many tribes and races all over the planet before it gradually formed into a federated nation. However, even so, there were developed and underdeveloped areas. In developed regions like Central City, humans relied on high technology for living, with no need to do household chores themselves. They had the fastest means of transportation when going out and could even engage in interstellar tourism. But in underdeveloped areas, people still lived relatively primitive lives, farming, herding, and relying on manual labor for many tasks.
And it was precisely such a place that Ye Zhi needed to find.
He adhered to the agreement with Huo Youcheng. After that day, he made up an excuse to keep Huo Youqiao in place, packed a small suitcase, took the money still in his account, and bought a boat ticket.
Central City was not by the sea or near a major river, so taking a boat was the most cumbersome means of transportation. He chose an unregistered black ship.
He couldn’t let Huo Youqiao find him; otherwise, it would bring him harm. That was Ye Zhi’s most firm conviction.
So he tried to avoid transportation that required presenting identification. Later, he even obtained a fake ID. The black ship he chose didn’t look big, but its route was long. It took a full month to reach its final destination—the Hei Tu Mountains.
It wasn’t until he arrived that Ye Zhi realized where the destination was. This remote place, which he shouldn’t have known about, he had learned about prematurely due to the acquaintance of a friend. He suffered from seasickness, hadn’t rested properly in a month, barely ate, and often vomited. Standing on firm ground now, he still felt dizzy. Looking around, he saw layer upon layer of distant mountains, so many that he couldn’t see their end. The greenery, light and dark, filled his vision, and the breeze carried the scent of grass.
It was a comfortable place with vast expanses, but also visibly underdeveloped.
Ye Zhi stood there for a while before suppressing the nauseating feeling rising in his throat. He closed his eyes, turned back to pay the boat fee, because the ticket he bought had already expired twenty days ago.
The ship’s captain was a small, dark-skinned man with an obviously shrewd appearance, but surprisingly, he had a kind personality. When he saw Ye Zhi coming over, he even handed him a cigarette. Ye Zhi shook his head and smiled, declining. “I don’t smoke.”
“You should learn. If you can smoke, you won’t get seasick.” The captain smiled, revealing a set of white teeth, and lit the cigarette himself. “If you don’t get seasick, and there’s nowhere else to go, you can actually stay and work for me. I’ll pay you a salary. With you on board, this trip has been much smoother, and I’ve made twenty percent more profit than usual.”
Although the ship’s main business wasn’t passenger transport but rather selling goods along the way, Ye Zhi, initially unfamiliar with them, stayed in his own cabin. However, he couldn’t help noticing once that they were busy and the accounts weren’t tallying correctly. Despite a significant discrepancy, no one seemed to notice. Unable to resist, he stepped in to help.
As a result, all the accounts on the ship gradually came under his management. In return, the captain would invite him to dine with them, sparing him the need to buy meals separately.
Ye Zhi shook his head. “The feeling of seasickness is too unbearable for me. I can’t handle it. How much more do I owe for the fare? I’ll pay you.”
He took out his wallet, but the captain chuckled, “No need. You’ve helped me out, so why pay more? I should be paying you a salary. You’re new here, and there are expenses wherever you go. Keep the money for yourself.”
Determined not to accept it, Ye Zhi could only offer his thanks. He picked up his few belongings and was about to leave when the captain called out to him from behind, “Do you want to find a job? My brother-in-law runs a farmers’ market in Black Soil Town. He might need someone to manage the accounts. Shall I ask him for you?”
Ye Zhi quickly responded, “Thank you.”
It must be said that he had encountered a kind-hearted person, which made it easier for him to settle in this unfamiliar place. Otherwise, being unfamiliar with the surroundings and his introverted nature, he wouldn’t have known what to do.
He found a new job.
His job was to manage the accounts at the farmers’ market in Black Soil Town, located below the Hei Tu Mountains. The town wasn’t large, with a population of around sixty thousand, most of whom were engaged in farming or animal husbandry in the Hei Tu Mountains. The vegetables, fruits, and meat produced there were sold through the farmers’ market. The management of meat, vegetables, and eggs in the entire market was under the control of Ye Zhi’s boss. As long as farmers brought their produce, he would buy them and then sell them locally or transport them to other places to earn the price difference.
Because he was the only one in charge, he made quite a bit of money and could be considered the wealthiest person in town.
