Chapter 56

The man’s eyes were bloodshot, with two flames of desire burning inside, threatening to consume his sanity. When Ye Zhi met his gaze, a shiver ran through his body, and his heart started pounding furiously. But this time, he tried hard not to look away.

He was telling the other person that he was willing.

No matter the means.

If it were someone else, this could be seen as an attempt at seduction, but Ye Zhi’s expression remained timid and weak. Even though he seemed a bit out of his mind, Huo Youqiao could see the immense courage it took for him to say these words.

He should have refused immediately, but Huo Youqiao, almost involuntarily, asked, “How do you want to help me?”

A blush quickly spread across Ye Zhi’s face. He was flustered like a virgin, and after a moment, he whispered, “I can use my hand…” Before he could finish, Huo Youqiao pushed him against the wall, his burning cheek pressed against the cold surface. The tall man pressed up against him, enveloping him completely, as if he was about to do whatever he wanted to him.

But he didn’t. Even on the brink of losing control, Huo Youqiao only pulled down Ye Zhi’s collar and bit his neck.

He bit hard enough to leave teeth marks but not to break the skin. Ye Zhi didn’t have glands in his neck, so even if it had broken the skin, no pheromones would have been released, just a little blood.

Huo Youqiao panted heavily as he bit, his lips trembling against Ye Zhi’s skin. Before letting go, he licked the spot lightly, almost affectionately.

Ye Zhi reacted to this.

But Huo Youqiao had already let him go and backed away, retreating to the other end of the staircase. He was still breathing hard, his voice hoarse, “Thank you for your help.”

Ye Zhi trembled all over, his eyes misting up. He whispered, “You’re welcome…”

He didn’t stay for lunch. Almost immediately after going downstairs, he left for work. It wasn’t until he was seated on the city loop line that he realized his legs were weak, and his neck was burning.

After Huo Youqiao’s susceptible period passed smoothly, the bite mark on Ye Zhi’s neck disappeared within a few days. This brief episode was never mentioned again, and their interactions remained natural, especially with Huo Ran often present, preventing any awkwardness.

The ambiguous traces faded, but what replaced them was not awkwardness, but harmony.

Huo Youqiao showed more concern for Ye Zhi but never crossed any lines, acting genuinely like an older brother. Occasionally, he would discuss work-related matters with Ye Zhi. It was then that Ye Zhi realized Huo Youqiao also had an emotional side, such as when dealing with difficult matters, he would also complain.

This side of Huo Youqiao made Ye Zhi feel he was more real, not so unreachable.

He would even lend Ye Zhi books to read. To cultivate his daughter’s good reading habits, he would invite Ye Zhi to read in the study. On evenings when Huo Ran didn’t have extracurricular activities, the three of them would sit quietly in the study, reading. Even the occasional explanations of difficult words to Huo Ran were spoken softly, like a dream.

Ye Zhi quickly grew fond of living at the Huo’s. He used to dislike finishing work, but now he looked forward to it. Instead of dawdling after work, he would leave with his colleagues and head “home.”

During these times, any new scandals involving Huo Youcheng didn’t bother him anymore. He no longer felt the old pangs of jealousy and pain.

The only worry he had was the fear that Huo Youcheng would find true love again and divorce him. Then, he would have no reason to stay in Huo Youqiao and Huo Ran’s lives.

However, before that could happen, his peace was first disrupted by Ye Wan’s sudden appearance at the Huo’s house.

Ye Wan had visited the Huo family before. She was a woman who would do anything for enough benefit and never felt embarrassed. But previously, she either timed her visits when Huo Youcheng was home or left quickly after he berated her. After some harsh words from him, she had stopped coming.

This time, however, for the sake of her younger son’s happiness, she came again without informing Ye Zhi.

She even arrived before Ye Zhi finished work.

Ye Zhi had promised to pick up Huo Ran from school but didn’t take the city loop line because as soon as he walked out of the company, he saw a familiar car.

Huo Youqiao’s usual car was a government-provided vehicle, low-key in appearance but highly secure. It was said to be bulletproof, could withstand bomb explosions without damage, and had impressive power. Even Huo Youqiao’s driver wasn’t an ordinary person but a bodyguard sent by the military, skilled in many areas.
