Chapter 62

Su Bin’s attention was abruptly brought back when he noticed that the sleeve of Allen’s sweater was wet. He wondered if there had been a spill of water or drink during the chaos. But then, his concern turned into shock.

“Allen… you’re bleeding!” Su Bin exclaimed, his eyes wide open in disbelief as he saw the bloodstains spreading across Allen’s forearm, soaking through the fabric. He was bewildered by the calmness with which Allen seemed to be handling the situation.

Allen simply responded with a soft “Mm,” as if to say, “I know.”

Jin Fei was equally surprised, muttering, “Why so much blood? When did you get hurt?”

Yang Chengzhe, concerned, asked, “Should we take you to the hospital?”

“No need,” Allen calmly used his other hand to gently clamp his bleeding wrist, then headed upstairs.

Worried, Su Bin followed Allen to his room, asking anxiously, “Are you okay? Are you sure you don’t need any help?” He had never seen someone bleed so much yet remain so composed.

Allen entered his room without saying a word, and Su Bin hesitated at the doorway before following inside. Allen retrieved a large medical kit from the cupboard and quickly arranged several items on the table: gauze, alcohol swabs, cotton balls, and a bottle of antiseptic solution.

In the midst of all this, Allen continued to let the blood flow from his arm while calmly and methodically tending to the wound, as if he was quite familiar with these emergency procedures.

Su Bin realized, however, that this was the first time he had witnessed this. Watching the blood pool more and more on his palm, dripping onto the floor, the table, and even the medical supplies, Su Bin felt completely helpless, his heart racing with anxiety.

Staring at this scene, Su Bin suddenly understood. So, Allen’s explanation about the “blood paper clumps” and his finger getting scratched was true. Su Bin was seeing it now – even a tiny scratch could lead to so much bleeding.

Allen covered the wound with a gauze soaked in antiseptic solution. While the gauze quickly became stained, the blood slowly ceased to spread.

Su Bin heaved a sigh of relief, but still worriedly asked, “Why did you bleed so much?”

Looking up at Su Bin, Allen’s face looked a bit pale, possibly due to blood loss. His gaze was focused and serious, yet he managed to smile faintly before asking, “Are you scared?”

Su Bin choked for a moment but quickly replied, “No, I’m not scared…” Even though he was actually terrified – he admitted to himself.

Allen’s gaze lingered on Su Bin’s concerned expression for a few seconds before turning to look at his wound, now starting to clot. “I used a coagulant this time.”

“Coagulant?” Su Bin blinked. “You don’t have blood clotting ability?”

Allen nodded. “Yes, I have hemophilia.”

Su Bin didn’t understand the medical term “hemophilia,” but the word “genetic” caught his attention. Considering his earlier suspicions, Su Bin soon pieced it together.

“Hemophilia” is an X-linked recessive genetic disorder. Patients with this condition have impaired blood clotting functions, resulting in a lifelong tendency to bleed excessively after minor injuries. In severe cases, spontaneous bleeding can even occur without any apparent external cause.

Su Bin remembered learning about hemophilia in high school biology class. The teacher had provided an example involving Queen Victoria of the 19th century, who passed hemophilia down to several of her children. These descendants married into various European royal families, spreading hemophilia through multiple royal lineages, including those of Germany, Spain, and Russia. This genetic catastrophe in history was known as the “Royal Disease” due to its impact on royal families.

Understanding dawned upon Su Bin. Allen had the hereditary “Royal Disease.”

As Su Bin’s mind raced, he couldn’t help but entertain a rather fanciful idea – was Allen perhaps a descendant of Queen Victoria? But upon second thought, it didn’t make much sense. The hemophilia incident involving Queen Victoria happened over a hundred years ago. In the present day, there were hardly any carriers of the hemophilia gene left within the royal family of Country B. If Allen were to be affected by that genetic disorder, it would require multiple generations of inheritance, with the gene passing through several females in the lineage.

“Could you get me a glass of water? I also need to take some antibiotics,” Allen requested.

Su Bin didn’t waste any time and immediately fetched what Allen needed. When he returned, he saw that Allen had already cleaned the dried blood around the wound with alcohol and applied fresh gauze.

Accepting the water and the medication, Allen noticed Su Bin’s lingering worry. He couldn’t help but smile and reach out to tap Su Bin’s forehead playfully. “Don’t worry, it’s fine.”

At this point, Su Bin was too preoccupied to be concerned about Allen’s playful gestures. He asked, still troubled, “If you bleed when injured, why did you step in to break up the fight just now? You shouldn’t have gone there.” He regretted not letting the two guys, Jin Mao Turtle and Big-Headed Cheng, duke it out, especially now that he had witnessed Allen losing so much blood.

But Su Bin was caught off guard by Allen’s response. “Aren’t you worried about your scallion?”

Su Bin was taken aback. He hadn’t realized that Allen had actually stepped in to protect his scallion… The poor scallion was twisted, bent, and beyond saving anyway!

Feeling torn between gratitude and guilt, Su Bin mumbled, “If I had known you would bleed so much, I would have let them fight over it. The scallion was doomed already.”

But then, Su Bin remembered something. “How did you know I was worried about the scallion?”

Allen chuckled softly, his eyes filled with amusement. “You were staring at it with such intensity. I thought you might shed tears for it.”

Su Bin felt even more conflicted. He murmured, “Don’t do this in the future…” Don’t treat me like this. I’ll start overthinking…

Allen let out another light laugh and said, “Michael, look at me.”

Su Bin raised his head to meet Allen’s gaze. “Hmm?”

Allen held his gaze. “Tell me, what are you thinking right now?”

Su Bin’s lips twitched. “…I don’t even know what I’m thinking right now.”

Allen continued, “Are you feeling guilty because I got hurt?”

Su Bin responded with a hesitant “Mm,” his eyes slightly unfocused. However, Allen’s gentle command of “Don’t evade, speak while looking at me” pulled him back into focus.

…Why does he have to talk to me face to face like this? >_< Allen gazed at him for a while, then suddenly took on a magnanimous tone, “If you feel uncomfortable, let me offer you a way to ease it.”

Su Bin dumbly responded with an “Mm,” thinking, whatever Allen says goes. He’s the one hurt today, so I should be understanding.

Allen continued, “Do something for me.”

Su Bin asked, “What?”

With a smile, Allen said, “You figure it out.”

Perplexed, Su Bin inquired, “Anything goes?”

Allen confirmed, “Yes, as long as it makes me happy.”

Su Bin contemplated, what could he do that would make Allen happy? Clean the bathroom? Well, that’s kind of expected (=_=)…

Prepare a hearty breakfast for him? Well, that’s not very creative, plus I’ve been cooking to pay off my debts for the past few months…

Give him a gift? But what kind of gift would genuinely make someone like Allen happy?

Su Bin wondered aloud, “If I do something that I believe would make you happy, but you don’t actually feel happy, what do I do then?”

Allen responded, “Then it doesn’t count. Think of something else.”

Su Bin asked again, “…Ah? How am I supposed to know what makes you happy?”

Allen explained, “If I’m happy, I’ll let you know.”

Su Bin replied, “Okay.” Well, I’ll think about it later. It can’t be too difficult, right?

Allen concluded, “Alright, you don’t have to do it right now. I’ll give you time. Set the deadline before Christmas. Now, get some rest tonight.”

Mentioning “Christmas” reminded Su Bin of the report he hadn’t yet given Allen about the “noodle cooking” project. Seeing that Allen was in a good mood, he decided to bring it up. However, to his surprise, Allen’s cheerful expression turned dark in an instant.

Su Bin couldn’t help but shiver. This was his first time witnessing Allen’s quick change of demeanor – it was almost instantaneous!

Allen’s face darkened as he said, “You haven’t done something to make me happy, but you’re starting with something that annoys me?”

Allen let out a cold snort. Oh no, Su Bin felt like he had committed a grave sin just from Allen’s accusation. His thought process was completely influenced by Allen, leaving him unable to rationally think about why this situation annoyed Allen and how he got into this state.

“But I promised that person a month ago,” Su Bin hurriedly explained, “Back then, I was still thinking about working to earn money, so even if I don’t want to go now, I can’t back out!”

Allen’s expression softened slightly as he listened. He asked, “You don’t want to go?”

Su Bin nodded, “Yeah, but I think breaking a promise isn’t a good idea.”

Allen silently looked at him for a moment and said, “December 17th, M United Football Club’s Christmas event, from 3 PM to 9 PM… You promise me that this is the last time you’ll take a non-student part-time job.”

Su Bin looked at Allen and earnestly said, “I promise.”

In retrospect, Su Bin found the dynamic between him and Allen quite peculiar. Do normal roommates act like this? One has to report to the other before doing something and even make a promise – it feels like a child seeking permission from their parents before going out to play, orz…

However, for Su Bin, who had never experienced such a relationship, he found himself strangely enjoying it. Although he initially felt rebellious and restricted by Allen’s “constraints,” he gradually realized that Allen was imposing these requirements because he was genuinely “concerned for his well-being.” Su Bin suddenly had a sense of being cared for and looked after.

He wouldn’t admit that he liked the way Allen watched over him, but he secretly relished in it (>_<)…

After returning to his room in the evening, Su Bin couldn’t shake off the image of Allen covered in blood from his mind. Overwhelmed with worry, he decided to search online for information about “hemophilia.”

Su Bin learned that severe cases of hemophilia could lead to subcutaneous and muscle bleeding. Participating in intense physical activities might result in joint hematomas, causing nerve involvement with symptoms like numbness, severe pain, and muscle atrophy. There was also the risk of vascular compression leading to tissue necrosis. Thinking about Allen mentioning that he couldn’t attend school due to health issues when he was younger, Su Bin began to understand the possible reasons behind it.

But looking at Allen’s current condition, he should be doing much better now, right? If not for today’s incident, Su Bin wouldn’t have known about Allen’s “hemophilia” condition… And Allen, a person with such high combat skills…

Yet, if Allen had such a dangerous condition, how did he manage to “train in combat”? Could it be that he truly possesses… superhuman strength? OAO||

It seemed that God was quite fair, gifting someone with power while also bestowing them with a lethal bug! Su Bin lay back on his bed, his thoughts tangled in complexity. He decided that from now on, he must do something to make Allen happy.
