Chapter 55

No one is perfect.

Ruan Shuyang knew he had his own flaws and never expected Pei Siyue to be flawless.

As long as they were happy together, that was enough.

But some things still needed to be made clear beforehand.

“But Brother, you can’t use pheromones to lure me anymore,” Ruan Shuyang said, his little face set in a serious expression as he looked at Pei Siyue. “No more sneaky little tricks behind my back.”

The phrase “underhanded tricks” made Pei Siyue want to laugh. Suppressing his amusement, he asked, “But what if Softie can’t make up his mind?”

Ruan Shuyang replied with complete seriousness, “You can persuade me with words, but not with pheromones.”

Pei Siyue thought about it and agreed.

“Alright, Ruanyan, I promise.”

Ruan Shuyang flashed a bright, cheerful smile. “Big Brother, you’re so kind.”

These rare moments of open conversation between them prompted Ruan Shuyang to ask about things she’d always wondered about.

“Big Brother, why did you go live abroad? Can you tell me?”

There was nothing he couldn’t share. Pei Siyue explained to Ruan Shuyang: “After Mom passed away, custody reverted to Dad. But Dad has always lived with an air of superiority, very self-centered. Even though I mattered more to him than Pei Siming, he couldn’t be bothered with me—just a teenager back then. He lacked the patience to raise me and would dump me on Zhou Wei.”

“Zhou Wei was heartless and ruthless, acting without regard for consequences. Back then, I was just a twelve-year-old boy, not yet fully matured. Left in her care, trouble was bound to happen.”

“That’s why I chose to go abroad.”

To leave the country, to escape all these people and things back home.

“A twelve-year-old boy, alone and far from home, easily becomes an outcast at school. My early days abroad were tough. Maybe my mental state was off back then—I was wary of everyone, lashing out with hurtful words. Later, I met Uncle Wei. He patiently guided me bit by bit, and things slowly got better.”

He learned to bury those emotions deep inside, to grow strong—strong enough that no one could break him.

He truly was strong now. Many couldn’t break him. But this little omega beside him could.

Back when he first underwent secondary differentiation into an enigma and learned about the triggers for his susceptibility period, he never imagined an omega could be one.

Yet here it was, proof that his former self had been arrogant and ignorant.

Ruan Shuyang tried gently patting Pei Siyue’s back, just as Pei Siyue had always done for him.

But the gesture felt awkward—Pei Siyue towered over him, making it seem like a child patting an adult.

After a moment, he chuckled: “Brother, I…”

His voice trailed off abruptly as Pei Siyue’s pheromone fluctuations surged violently.

The next wave of susceptibility was approaching.

Pei Siyue closed his eyes tightly and said through gritted teeth: “Give me an injection of suppressant. Then leave. Don’t interfere.”

Ruan Shuyang bit his lip, his expression a mix of worry, fear, hesitation, and shyness. Finally, he slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out what he’d just bought.

It was a box of brand-new, unopened condoms.

Pei Siyue opened his eyes at the sound, recognizing the item in Ruan Shuyang’s hand. He understood what the little omega meant, clenching the tungsten steel of his handcuffs so tightly he nearly left marks on the hard metal.

“No,” Pei Siyue said without hesitation. “Too small. Too few.”

Ruan Shuyang: “……?”

His face shifted from flushed crimson to puffed-up indignation.

Enigma was so annoying—how dare he complain about size and quantity!

Pei Siyue watched Ruan Shuyang glare at him before tossing the unopened package aside.

Hmph, if you’re so picky, then don’t do it.

Pei Siyue watched the little omega, who now seemed more emotionally unstable than himself, and couldn’t help but smile.

“Don’t worry, Softie. I won’t do it. You haven’t fully developed yet.”

“If you’re willing, we can try another way. If not, you can leave. I won’t blame you.”

Ruan Shuyang, unfamiliar with such matters, stammered hesitantly, “What kind of way, Brother?”

Pei Siyue’s gaze deepened. The muscles in his arms tensed with restraint as he looked at the almost completely ignorant, innocent Ruan Shuyang beside him. He murmured softly, coaxing, “Unlock my handcuffs. I’ll teach you.” ”

It was bound to happen eventually, he tried to reassure himself, ignoring the burning heat on his cheeks that felt hot enough to fry an egg. He couldn’t keep avoiding this forever. He’d heard it was pleasurable and enjoyable.

He comforted himself with this thought, but the moment the cuffs clicked open, he still couldn’t bring himself to look at Pei Siyue.

The next second, the world spun. Pei Siyue pinned him to the floor of the safety room.

The safety room was constructed from a material harder than memory foam, possessing its slow rebound properties yet far more resilient and sturdy. His head didn’t hurt upon impact, only a momentary dizziness washed over him.

After the dizziness passed, Pei Siyue’s lips pressed against the back of his neck. His voice was low and hoarse as he warned, “I might not be able to control my strength. If it hurts, you must scream.”

Ruan Shuyang felt afraid, but he still mustered his courage and replied in a soft, trembling voice, “Okay.”

Then he was bitten.

When he gasped for breath and came to his senses, he saw Pei Siyue rummaging through a drawer nearby.

The other pulled out several bags of nutritional supplements with straws attached.

And a bite restraint.

He didn’t know what Pei Siyue intended, only feeling the other’s hands brace against his neck as he leaned down to kiss him, drawing the pheromones from his bodily fluids.

The kiss trailed downward, and then Ruan Shuyang’s eyes fluttered open slightly.

“Mmm…”

“Softie, put on the bite guard.”…

A night of madness.

By five in the morning, Ruan Shuyang had completely lost consciousness, sleeping as if passed out. He didn’t even notice when Pei Siyue took his hand to unlock the bite guard and ankle cuffs with his fingerprint.

The ankle cuffs and bite guard only restrained an enigma who willingly submitted.

Being restrained earlier hadn’t bothered him, but now, after such a long ordeal, the exhausted omega might want to shower.

Ruan Shuyang’s body was covered in marks; not washing them would be unbearable.

He carefully carried the person upstairs into the master bedroom bathroom, placed him in the bathtub, then turned to run hot water. While filling the tub, he picked up Ruan Shuyang’s limp arm hanging over the edge and submerged it in the warm water, gently bathing the exhausted little omega who remained too dazed to fully wake.

The little omega’s skin was as translucent and white as jade, smooth and soft to the touch, making him reluctant to let go. Last night, when he’d gripped that slender waist and heard Ruan Shuyang, exhausted and weak, whisper in a voice as delicate as a kitten’s, “Please stop,” he hadn’t been able to stop at all.

Now, seeing the fingerprints and kiss marks scattered across Ruan Shuyang’s body, he felt a twinge of regret and heartache. Yet, if given the chance again, he still wouldn’t stop.

Lily of the valley was so sweet and juicy, he simply couldn’t control himself.

After carefully bathing Ruan Shuyang, drying his hair, and dressing him in pajamas, he only murmured softly once while his hair was being dried before sinking into a deeper sleep.

He laid the person on his bed, then climbed up beside them, pulling them close in his arms as he closed his eyes to rest.

After sleeping for several hours, he woke to find it was past nine in the morning.

He first pulled out his phone to handle the work messages sent by his two secretaries. Then, as if remembering something, he looked down at Ruan Shuyang, who was sleeping soundly in his arms.

Ruan Shuyang had classes today—periods three and four in the morning, and periods one and two in the afternoon, all core courses.

Thinking of the young omega’s determination to attend class, he reluctantly tried to wake him up despite his own reluctance.

But it was difficult. Ruan Shuyang slept deeply; gentle pats yielded no response.

He simply leaned down and kissed him.

“Softie.” Pei Siyue stroked Ruan Shuyang’s face before heading to the bathroom to wring out a hot towel and wipe his face, trying to rouse him. “Wake up. Class is about to start.”

Class!

Ruan Shuyang nearly cried. He felt terrible all over, completely off-kilter, and now he had to go to class.

He’d never found attending class so difficult.

Wait… class…

He hesitated, looking at Pei Siyue. The other was in his sensitive period. He probably shouldn’t abandon his enigma to go to class.

But he really wanted to go—his highlighted notes, his final exams.

“I’ll go with you.” Pei Siyue’s reply held no hesitation—he’d clearly considered this before. “I’ll take the suppressant and wear the suppressor. I’ll wait for you outside the classroom.”

He lowered his head to kiss Ruan Shuyang’s cheek. “Softie, try to sit toward the back near the door, okay?”

Ruan Shuyang nodded in agreement without hesitation.

Then he watched as Pei Siyue pulled open the drawer of the bedroom nightstand, took out the suppressors, and put on a full five of them—covering his hands, feet, and neck.

Ruan Shuyang: “…”

Enigma’s pheromones during the susceptible phase were truly terrifying.

But with the suppressors in place, he could no longer sense Pei Siyue’s pheromones either, leaving him feeling a bit disappointed.

Immediately after, he watched as Pei Siyue took out the suppressant and injected it into his arm.

He asked worriedly, “Brother, won’t the suppressant be bad for you?”

“It won’t.” Pei Siyue reassured him, “Don’t worry. An Enigma’s physical constitution can fully handle the side effects of the suppressant. Almost every Enigma injects it during their sensitive period.”

Because without it, no one could endure the effects.

Ruan Shuyang felt somewhat relieved. He got out of bed to wash up and change clothes, thinking about which class to attend and where the professor had left off—

Then, before he could react at all, his legs gave way and he slid to the floor.

He collapsed onto the ground, his face blank with the daze of sleep deprivation. His brain, starved of oxygen, struggled to think. His limbs felt weak and limp, utterly devoid of strength. Many parts of his body ached.

He covered his face as scenes from last night to this morning slowly surfaced in his mind.

His body had been overused in many places—his hands, his thighs…

But not there. He’d asked Pei Siyue why, and Pei Siyue said he couldn’t enter now, that he’d have to wait until his heat cycle.

He understood that. Then came a downpour.

Back then, Pei Siyue had bitten him three times. He’d already fitted the bite guard, enigma’s arms braced against either side of his neck. The guard pressed lightly against his cheek as a voice came through it—metallic and tremulous, muffled.

“Softie, you’re so wet.”

Shame and anger made Ruan Shuyang want to push Pei Siyue away, but his arms were too weak to muster any strength.

He could only turn his head away. He had no idea what was happening to his body—just being touched by Pei Siyue made him…

A pair of strong hands lifted his body, carrying the utterly limp and weak Ruan Shuyang to the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash up, then dressing him in clothes for going out.

Ruan Shuyang tried to do things himself during this time, but he had no strength at all. His arms wouldn’t even lift, so he gave up, closing his eyes as if giving up on treatment.

Pei Siyue quickly dressed him and changed himself, then carried Ruan Shuyang to the car. Handing the young omega a packet of nutritional supplements, he said, “This will tide you over. I’ll have Ji Huai come cook lunch.”

“Okay.”

Ruan Shuyang drank the nutrient solution, slowly regaining some strength as he watched Pei Siyue drive away.

In the bright daylight, the changes to the lawn were even more noticeable. It looked as if someone had turned over the soil, loosening it, and planted something.

Curious, he asked, “What did Brother plant on the lawn?”

“Lily of the valley,” Pei Siyue replied while driving. “I had soil delivered and planted lily of the valley. Next year, you’ll see it here, and we can even make honey from it.”

Ruan Shuyang sipped the nutrient solution in small mouthfuls, a faint flush gradually returning to his cheeks.

When the car pulled up to the school, Pei Siyue opened the door for Ruan Shuyang and helped him out. His voice was low as he murmured in his ear, “Softie, I really like lily of the valley.”

Ruan Shuyang didn’t dare look at Pei Siyue’s expression. He kept his head down and walked quietly, yet somehow felt as if he’d already tasted the nectar of those lilies of the valley.

Before entering the classroom, leaning against the wall, he glanced sideways at Pei Siyue, who stood by the back door, leaning against the wall.

The tall, handsome enigma leaned against the wall, his lazy demeanor tinged with coldness, radiating an aura that said “keep out.”

The suppressors on his hands and feet were hidden by his clothes, while the silver-white suppressor on his neck was faintly visible through his collar.

It was said that many Alphas, even during their heat, refused to wear bite restraints or suppressors, viewing them as symbols of being tamed like pets.

But Pei Siyue never seemed to share that sentiment. He even put them on voluntarily, afraid he might truly bite someone badly, afraid his chaotic pheromones might harm others.

Pei Siyue was actually a person with a cold exterior, but a very gentle and kind heart inside.

No matter what others thought of Pei Siyue, Ruan Shuyang believed that was who he truly was.

Suddenly, he smiled, his eyes crinkling, and said, “Brother, I really like you.”

After saying that, he dashed into the classroom.

When the professor entered to teach, his face was still flushed. He couldn’t help but pat it.

He’d spoken impulsively just now, but he didn’t regret it.

He was clear in his mind now—he liked Pei Siyue.

He liked him so, so much.

This feeling was completely different from how he’d liked Pei Siming before. He wanted to be with Pei Siyue every moment, to live together, to face everything side by side.

Admittedly, his words had been impulsive, because Pei Siyue had been struggling to hold back outside the classroom, desperate to drag the currently lecturing Ruan Shuyang home.

But seeing the quiet, orderly classroom, he had no choice but to suppress that urge.

It wasn’t until lunchtime that Ruan Shuyang was immediately taken by Pei Siyue to their apartment near the school.

Ji Huai had arrived earlier and prepared a meal, leaving it on the table. The moment Ruan Shuyang entered, the aroma of food filled the air.

Having exerted himself physically and subsisted only on nutritional supplements, Ruan Shuyang’s appetite was instantly whetted by the aroma. He started toward the dining room, but Pei Siyue grabbed his hand.

Seeing that familiar, intensely possessive gaze, Ruan Shuyang swallowed hard, feeling a twinge of fear.

Truthfully, he wasn’t feeling unwell—it was just too much. So much that he couldn’t bear it, couldn’t stomach it.

He looked at Pei Siyue with pitiful, moist eyes: “Brother, I… I want to eat.”

Pei Siyue undid his clothes as he replied, “Wait to eat. I can’t hold back.”

Ruan Shuyang’s shirt was pulled off, leaving his bare shoulder marked with a kiss.

“Brother, didn’t you take the suppressant?”

“Mm. It wore off.”

W-worn off?

Despair left Ruan Shuyang speechless.

After his poor groin endured yet another assault, Pei Siyue carried him to the dining table. His arms trembled as he reached for the cutlery.

Pei Siyue kindly offered, “Softie, shall I feed you?”

Ruan Shuyang glared at Pei Siyue, enunciating each word forcefully as if venting his frustration: “No! Want!”

“Alright.” Pei Siyue replied patiently. “Let me know if you get tired.”

Ruan Shuyang sulkily slurped his porridge.

Enigma during the sensitive period was truly unbearable, utterly detestable.

Where was his former rational, restrained Pei Siyue? Could he have him back?

**

For now, there was no way to get him back.

After two afternoon classes, the three-day New Year’s break began. Feeling unrestrained, Pei Siyue brought him back to Lanyan Yuting.

After discovering Ruan Shuyang could endure seven or eight hours of exertion, he no longer returned to the basement. Instead, he chose to relieve himself with his omega.

Blocking it won’t help.

Effective release could hasten the end of an enigma’s receptive phase.

On New Year’s Eve night, Ruan Shuyang lay naked on the bed, his small body trembling, his voice hoarse from crying out.

Pei Siyue lifted him up to drink water, but Ruan Shuyang, unable to contain his frustration, bit down hard on Pei Siyue’s shoulder.

Pei Siyue patiently let him bite, continuing to offer water afterward. Once quenched, he massaged Ruan Shuyang’s aching limbs.

Truthfully, seven or eight hours of release couldn’t truly satisfy an enigma. But fearing further exertion would land his little omega in the hospital, he restrained himself and turned to other tasks.

Like cleaning up their battlefield, changing the sheets and blankets, or feeding Ruan Shuyang water and food, bathing him, massaging his aching limbs—all of which inevitably drained some of his energy.

Ruan Shuyang lay on the bed, exhausted, and unknowingly closed his eyes. When he blinked them open again, it was already past eleven at night.

He recalled the events of New Year’s Eve and forced himself to perk up. “Brother, I want to look outside the window.”

Pei Siyue paused his massage, drew back the curtains for him, and dimmed the room’s lights.

The New Year’s Eve nightscape spilled through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows. Ruan Shuyang saw the bright fireworks in the distance

as massive, colorful fireworks exploded in the sky. The dazzling beauty of the fireworks reflected in his eyes.

“So beautiful.”

He murmured softly.

Snowflakes had begun falling silently, one by one, gradually blanketing the lawn outside the villa in white.

The pristine snow brightened the night outside considerably. Ruan Shuyang watched the snow for a while, and suddenly his anger faded.

He smiled and said to Pei Siyue, “Brother, a blessed snow promises a bountiful year.”

“Mm.” Pei Siyue lowered his head and kissed his forehead. “Next year will be a very good year.”

“Sleep early, my soft one.”

Ruan Shuyang gazed at the snowy scene and drifted off to sleep without realizing it.

Outside, snowflakes fell, symbolizing the coming year’s bounty.

Inside, warmth enveloped the room like spring as the lovers slept entwined.

But when he awoke, the tenderness had vanished.

Ruan Shuyang woke up overheated. Pei Siyue held him from behind, radiating so much heat that his pheromones were overwhelming.

Frustrated, he clawed at Pei Siyue’s back.

Pei Siyue brushed his cheek with his high nose and murmured affectionately, “Little wildcat.”

Ruan Shuyang, furious, bit Pei Siyue’s shoulder.

Pei Siyue paid no mind to the bite on his shoulder or the scratches on his back. He lifted Ruan Shuyang and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, saying, “Softie, it’s snowing heavily.”

The neighborhood was unusually quiet during the New Year’s holiday.

Many residents had headed south for the winter, and those who remained seemed reluctant to venture out in the blizzard.

The villa was cloaked in silver, with goose-down-like snowflakes drifting endlessly. Vast lawns lay blanketed in pristine white, while distant trees bore heavy branches, their limbs bent under the weight of the snow.

The snowy landscape was beautiful and serene.

Pei Siyue held him close and asked, “Do you like looking at it?”

Ruan Shuyang nodded.

“Then take your time.”…

By the third day of the New Year holiday, Pei Siyue’s pheromone fluctuations had stabilized, signaling the end of his sensitive period.

Ruan Shuyang curled up on the bed, trying to stay as far away from Pei Siyue as possible.

He’d been worn out these past few days. Every time he opened his eyes, Pei Siyue would pull him into a wave of desire. And he couldn’t resist—his body was brutally honest.

When he couldn’t take it anymore, he’d crawl toward the edge of the bed, only to be grabbed around the waist and pulled back.

To prevent damaging his glands, Pei Siyue wore a bite guard most of the time. But the guard only stopped him from biting, not from tormenting him.

The bed was out of the question. Pei Siyue remembered he loved watching snowfall by the floor-to-ceiling windows. Holding him there for ages, the cold bite guard brushed his cheek. He shivered from the chill, but soon Pei Siyue pulled him in to share the view.

When he had nothing left, Pei Siyue would feed him water and energy biscuits, topping up his stamina.

These past few days, he often resembled a ragdoll—whatever pose Pei Siyue arranged him into, he remained frozen, utterly unable to move on his own.

Waaah, enigma’s strength is terrifying. Can an omega escape?

He regretted spending his receptive period with Pei Siyue. Could he have the old Pei Siyue back—the one who couldn’t even stay in the same room with him for long?

He curled up in the corner, a tiny, pitiful bundle.

“I have class tomorrow,” Ruan Shuyang pleaded, looking at Pei Siyue with wide, sorrowful eyes. “Brother, exams are next week. Can we please not mess with me tonight?”

Pei Siyue didn’t consider the events of these past days to be torment, but whatever Ruan Shuyang said went.

“Alright.” He agreed magnanimously, ruffling Ruan Shuyang’s hair. “If you’re tired, lie down a bit longer.”

Ruan Shuyang felt like he hadn’t left the bed at all these past days. The rare times he did get up were when he was carried over to the floor-to-ceiling window for some activity or taken to the bathroom for a shower.

Though he had a psychological aversion to the bed, his exceptionally exhausted body could only lie there now.

Seeing Pei Siyue stand up again, he asked, “Are you tired, Brother? Do you need to rest?”

Pei Siyue took his hand and pressed it against his own body, lifting his lips lazily as he asked Ruan Shuyang, “Are you sure you want me to rest?”

Ruan Shuyang immediately pulled his hand back, shaking his head frantically. “No, no, don’t!”

How could he still have the energy? Enigma was terrifying.

He now fully believed that tale of a day and night.

But he couldn’t do it. A day and night would break him. Truly break him.

Lying in bed, he watched Pei Siyue wipe the glass.

…The floor-to-ceiling window glass.

He bit his lip, his ears flushing crimson, and whispered, “Why hasn’t that side been wiped yet?”

Pei Siyue was both amused and exasperated. “Softie, you just slept for over an hour. In that time, I had to change the sheets and blankets, give you a bath and a massage. I didn’t have time to clean the windows.”

Ruan Shuyang couldn’t bear to look at the grime on the glass. “Okay, okay, you could have cleaned them first.”

After finishing the windows, Pei Siyue returned the rag to the bathroom, washed his hands, and sat back down beside the bed. He watched Ruan Shuyang calmly and reminded her, “Softie, most of that stuff is yours.”

Ruan Shuyang felt both embarrassed and angry upon hearing this. He kicked Pei Siyue under the covers.

Though, though most of it really was his—because he couldn’t resist—how could he possibly bring that up?

After kicking him, his face felt like it was about to smoke, and he buried himself completely under the covers.

Pei Siyue chuckled as he pulled the bashful little omega out from under the covers. While massaging his scalp, he said, “No need to be shy.”

“There’ll be plenty more of this in the future.”

Ruan Shuyang: “…”

He dared not think about it.

Pei Siyue whispered softly, “Sleep a little longer. You’re still exhausted.”

He truly was exhausted. With Pei Siyue massaging his scalp, he soon drifted off into a blissful sleep.

He slept for a long, undisturbed stretch, waking up the next morning.

The pillow beside him was warm, but he was alone in the room.

He reached for his phone to check the time, only to find a silver bracelet on his left wrist.

The bracelet was made of that familiar barrier material, adorned with a small key.

He looked thoughtfully toward the nightstand. Beside his phone lay a familiar barrier necklace.

It was the one Pei Siyue had made for him initially.

He tried to unfasten the bracelet, using its key to unlock the necklace around his neck.

The key slid smoothly into the clasp, which clicked softly and released.

Pei Siyue had given him the key to the necklace.
