Chapter 14

This entry is part 15 of 72 in the series The Charming School Heartthrob

Ye Qingyang ignored her.

“I’m reflecting behind closed doors. I was the one who made a mistake and angered Auntie, so I need to reflect.”

“If you want to reflect, don’t do it in my room! Do you hear me?”

“But I don’t have any other room where I can reflect.”

“Go to your balcony. That’s where you’re supposed to stay!”

“How can the balcony count as reflecting behind closed doors? It leaks wind from every direction. It wouldn’t be sincere at all. Even the Bodhisattva wouldn’t forgive me!”

Wang Hui was so angry she wanted to kick the door.

Ye Hong quickly grabbed her. “You can’t kick it—you’re pregnant! How can you make that kind of movement? Besides, if the door gets broken, I’ll be the one who has to repair it. That little beast Ye Qingyang has no money.”

“So you’re just going to let him stay in my room?” Wang Hui snapped. “This is all your fault. If you wanted to beat him, then beat him—why let him run into my room? Is my room somewhere he’s allowed to enter? He lives on the balcony all year long. Who knows how dirty he is, like a piece of trash. Aren’t you afraid he’ll dirty my room?”

“Xiaohui, don’t be angry. Be careful of your pregnancy. Go stay in Mom’s room first. I’ll talk to him.”

Wang Hui glared at the door angrily and cursed unwillingly, “Shameless! When your parents died, why didn’t they take you with them? That would’ve saved everyone the disgust!”

After cursing, she unwillingly went to Ye Hong’s bedroom to rest.

Ye Qingyang let out a cold laugh. When it came to shamelessness, who could compete with the Ye Hong family sitting here?

If Wang Hui had any shame at all, would she be living in this house and still saying something like that?

And saying, “When your parents died, why didn’t they take you with them”? She was even pregnant—yet she had no thought of accumulating virtue for her child. Wasn’t she afraid that in the future she might give birth to an ungrateful wretch?

In Ye Qingyang’s opinion, someone like her shouldn’t even have a child. Even if she did, the child would grow up with crooked values and disrupt social harmony.

He looked at the cabinet in Wang Hui’s room filled with snacks and milk.

Since you said I’m shameless, then I’ll show you just how shameless I can be.

Second batch of supplies for Qingyang’s livestream room: acquired. √

Outside, Ye Hong was still persuading him earnestly—soft tactics and hard tactics together, sugar-coated bullets and real threats, both intimidation and temptation.

Meanwhile, Ye Qingyang put in his earphones, listened to music, symbolically did a little homework, and then prepared to sleep.

Thinking about how after selling this batch tomorrow he could probably earn nearly one hundred yuan, even his dreams were filled with glittering gold.

Ye Qingyang slept peacefully, but the Ye Hong family did not.

Since Ye Qingyang refused to come out and Ye Hong would not let her kick the door, Wang Hui lay down on Ye Hong’s bed and declared, “Then I’ll sleep here tonight. You and Dad can sleep somewhere else.”

Ye Hong and Wang Yue had already slept on the sofa the previous night. Today they absolutely did not want to sleep there again.

“Xiaohui, how about we just sleep together? The bed is big enough. The three of us can fit.”

Ever since moving into the Ye family house, Wang Hui had grown used to having her own room. She had never considered sharing with others and naturally refused.

“How is this bed big? I think it’s just average size. Besides, I’m carrying a baby in my belly. If you sleep with me and your sleeping posture is bad, what if you bump into my baby?”

She looked at her parents and raised her eyebrows. “Isn’t my brother’s bedroom still empty? He’s not here right now anyway. You two can just sleep in his bed.”

Wang Yue thought it made sense. He took out the key to Wang Fan’s room from the bedside drawer and said to Ye Hong, “Xiaohui is right. Let’s sleep in Xiaofan’s bed tonight.”

Ye Hong had no choice. She didn’t want to sleep on the sofa, and she definitely didn’t want to sleep on the balcony, so she could only go to Wang Fan’s room.

She sighed, comforting herself inwardly. At least Ye Qingyang had occupied Wang Hui’s bedroom and not hers.

Otherwise, once the door was locked, she wouldn’t even be able to enter Wang Fan’s room.

Seeing her parents leave, Wang Hui finally smiled in satisfaction.

Meanwhile, Ye Hong reluctantly opened Wang Fan’s bedroom.

Looking at her son’s room and realizing she had to sleep here all because of Ye Qingyang made her furious.

She wished she could bite Ye Qingyang on the spot.

Hadn’t that child always been so listless before?

How had he suddenly become so energetic these past two days? Had he gone crazy?

Ye Hong frowned, feeling that teenagers really were troublesome.

Ye Qingyang slept well and woke up a little after six in the morning thanks to his alarm.

At that time, the Ye Hong family had not gotten up yet.

After brushing his teeth and washing his face, Ye Qingyang was about to go to the refrigerator to find something to eat.

But the moment he stepped out, he saw Ye Hong standing in front of him with a ferocious expression.

“Good morning,” Ye Qingyang said with a smile.

Ye Hong sneered and suddenly pulled out the broom she had been hiding behind her back, swinging it at him.

Ye Qingyang hurriedly dodged while running away.

The bathroom was not far from Ye Hong’s bedroom. He twisted the doorknob and ran in, only to discover that Wang Hui was actually sleeping on Ye Hong’s bed.

He was momentarily stunned but quickly understood what had happened.

Since he had occupied Wang Hui’s bedroom, someone as selfish as Wang Hui would of course take over her mother’s room.

He glanced back and saw Ye Hong chasing after him.

An idea formed in his mind. He deliberately waited until Ye Hong got closer before running toward the bed.

When he reached the bedside, he pretended to stumble, bracing his hands against the bed while kneeling on one knee on the floor.

Seeing the opportunity, Ye Hong immediately raised the broom and struck down at him.

This was exactly what Ye Qingyang had been waiting for.

He nimbly twisted his body and moved away from the bed.

The broom landed squarely on Wang Hui’s leg.

When Ye Hong hit Ye Qingyang, she never held back. She only wished she could beat him until he cried for his parents, venting all her anger.

So when that broom struck down, Wang Hui—still asleep—was awakened instantly by the pain.

Ye Hong had not expected to hit her own daughter and froze for a moment.

The moment Wang Hui opened her eyes, she saw Ye Hong holding a broom and staring at her, while her own thigh burned with pain.

What else was there to understand?

Wang Hui immediately shouted angrily, “What are you doing? Are you crazy?!”

Ye Hong was about to explain, but Ye Qingyang spoke first.

“Sister, are you okay? Is the baby in your belly okay?”

“Auntie,” he turned toward Ye Hong, his tone holding three parts reproach and seven parts sorrow, “how could you treat Sister so cruelly? She’s pregnant! What if you hurt the baby?”

Both Wang Hui and Ye Hong felt a wave of fear after hearing this.

Wang Hui immediately sat up from under the blanket, grabbed the small ashtray from the bedside table, and hurled it at Ye Hong.

“Are you crazy?! I’m carrying your own grandchild! Are you trying to beat your grandchild to death?!”

The ashtray hit Ye Hong’s leg, but she barely noticed the pain and hurriedly explained, “Xiaohui, I wasn’t trying to hit you. I was trying to hit that little bastard Ye Qingyang.”

As she spoke, anger surged again. She raised the broom and chased after Ye Qingyang once more, wishing she could peel his skin off.

Ye Qingyang was not afraid at all. Wearing his shoes, he jumped straight onto the bed.

Ye Hong’s vision went dark. “Get down! Don’t dirty my bed!”

Ye Qingyang looked terrified. “I don’t dare. Auntie, please don’t hit me anymore. I already know I was wrong.”

Seeing he would not get down, Ye Hong simply took off her slippers and climbed onto the bed too, determined to beat him.

When Ye Qingyang saw her climb up, he deliberately ran toward where Wang Hui was lying.

Ye Hong hurried after him.

Ye Qingyang stepped over Wang Hui’s legs and jumped off the bed.

Seeing him about to escape, Ye Hong stepped forward to chase him—only to land squarely on Wang Hui’s leg.

Furious, Wang Hui shoved her onto the bed.

Rubbing her leg, she cursed, “Are you blind? I’m right here! Couldn’t you walk around me?”

“I was in a hurry chasing Ye Qingyang,” Ye Hong explained. “Xiaohui, are you okay? Mom will rub it for you.”

Wang Hui sneered and slapped her hand away.

“I’m fine now, but I might not be later! If you keep doing this a few more times, the one in trouble won’t just be me—it’ll be the baby in my belly!”

“I didn’t mean to.” Ye Hong said, reaching toward her stomach.

But Wang Hui was still furious and refused to let her touch it.

“First thing in the morning you’re beating me and stepping on me. I think you’re even more annoying than that useless Ye Qingyang! Even he knew not to step on me. And you? You’re my mother, yet you still stepped on me!”

Angrily, Wang Hui glanced at the clock. It was only six-thirty, which made her even more upset and aggrieved.

“Why are you still sitting here? Get out! If the baby in my belly doesn’t sleep well, it’ll all be your fault!”

Ye Hong hurriedly got off the bed and even tucked the blanket over her.

“Xiaohui, go back to sleep. Mom won’t disturb you. Don’t be angry, don’t be angry. You’re pregnant—you can’t get upset.”

“It’s all your fault anyway!” Wang Hui turned her head away and ignored her.

Ye Hong left her bedroom awkwardly. As soon as she stepped out, she prepared to continue settling the score with Ye Qingyang.

But after searching the entire house, she could not find him anywhere.

Clearly, Ye Qingyang had already gone to school.

On the quiet road, Ye Qingyang walked with his schoolbag on his back and a bag in his hand, sipping Fu Zai milk one mouthful at a time.

At this hour, only convenience stores and breakfast stalls were open.

There were not many pedestrians on the road, and most of them were students.

Looking at the spoils in his bag, Ye Qingyang felt extremely pleased.

While the Ye family mother and daughter were busy fighting among themselves like dogs biting each other, he had taken every bit of stock from Wang Hui’s cabinet.

Didn’t she say he was shameless?

Then he would be shameless.

Things from his own house—could that really be called stealing?

Of course not. That was called shared property.

When Ye Qingyang arrived at school, it was already 7:20. There were only ten minutes left before morning reading.

A sharp-eyed girl noticed the bag in his hand and asked, “Ye Qingyang, are these for selling today?”

Ye Qingyang nodded. “Yes.”

“What do you have?” the girl asked curiously. “Do you have yogurt? I wanted yogurt, but I forgot to buy it this morning.”

Ye Qingyang did not have yogurt, but he did have Fu Zai milk.

“Is Fu Zai milk okay?”

“Sure,” the girl said easily. “How much?”

“Original price is five yuan. I’m selling it for four.”

The girl immediately added him on WeChat and sent him a four-yuan red envelope.

Seeing this, other girls also came over to buy milk from him.

Some even picked out small breads and cookies from his bag.

When there was only one bottle of milk left, Ye Qingyang refused the next girl who wanted to buy it and told her to see if she wanted something else.

The girl was puzzled. “Why won’t you sell it to me? What are you saving that last bottle for? Are you going to drink it yourself?”

Ye Qingyang shook his head.

“Then why won’t you sell it to me?”

Just before the morning reading bell rang, Lu Jingcheng stepped into the classroom and heard that question.

He took one look and—sure enough—Ye Qingyang was selling goods again!

Was he some kind of master salesman? Opening shop so early in the morning!

Truly dedicated.

Without another word, Lu Jingcheng walked straight over, wearing an expression that clearly said, “You’re blocking my way.”

Ye Qingyang quickly stepped aside.

Lu Jingcheng glanced at him, then turned to the girl beside him.

“If he doesn’t want to sell it, he doesn’t want to sell it. Why do you need a reason? Are you trying to force him to sell it?”

Hearing that, the girl did not dare say anything else and returned to her seat with a grievance.

Only then did Lu Jingcheng continue walking forward.

Ye Qingyang quickly followed him.

As soon as Lu Jingcheng sat down, something appeared on his desk.

A bottle of Fu Zai milk.

On the green packaging, the energetic Fu Zai mascot smiled at him with curved eyes.

Lu Jingcheng: …

Lu Jingcheng looked up at Ye Qingyang. “Leftover from what you couldn’t sell?”

Ye Qingyang shook his head. “No. I saved this especially for you. That girl just now wanted to buy it, but since it was the last bottle, I didn’t sell it to her. I kept it for you.”

Lu Jingcheng could not help feeling a little happy, but he tried hard to suppress it, pretending to remain calm and composed.

With a proud little tone he said, “Since you’re so sincere, I’ll reluctantly accept it.”

Ye Qingyang did not expose him. Opening his bag, he asked, “Is there anything you like to eat? Pick what you like first. After you choose, I’ll sell the rest.”

Lu Jingcheng looked at him, barely restraining the urge to smile.

He looked through the bag, picked out several packs of cookies and snacks he liked, and asked, “Where did you get all this?”

Ye Qingyang smiled. “Secret.”

He leaned closer to Lu Jingcheng. “I’ll tell you later.”

Lu Jingcheng frowned slightly. “That’s a secret? These came from a legitimate source, right?”

“Of course. Completely legitimate. Besides, would I dare let you eat something if its origin were suspicious?”

That was true. Ye Qingyang liked him so much that he would definitely not give him stolen goods.

Thinking that, Lu Jingcheng did not ask further.

After he finished choosing, Ye Qingyang carried his bag back to his seat.

Right then, the morning reading bell rang, and Chen Wei entered the classroom exactly with the bell.

The moment he sat down, he noticed several snacks and a bottle of milk on Lu Jingcheng’s desk.

He reached out to grab the milk, but Lu Jingcheng immediately smacked his hand away.

Chen Wei rolled his eyes and tried to grab the cookies instead—only to have his hand slapped again.

“What are you doing? I haven’t eaten!”

“I haven’t eaten either,” Lu Jingcheng said confidently as he opened the milk and unwrapped the cookies.

“Sharing a little won’t kill you.”

Lu Jingcheng glanced at him and thought to himself: this is a love-filled breakfast. Can love be shared with you?

Of course not.

So he completely ignored the survival of his deskmate and happily ate everything himself.

He even felt that the milk in his hand tasted sweeter than before.
