Chapter 24

This entry is part 24 of 27 in the series The Best Actor Refuses to Divorce

Yuan Shang thought that after Xu Tang went upstairs to see Zongxuan, nothing would happen, so he stayed downstairs to ask about the specific situation, as well as news reports and how to deal with reporters.

So when he finished asking and walked toward the elevator, he saw Xu Tang coming out of the elevator. His face was frighteningly ugly, and his eyelids jumped wildly twice. Two words popped into his mind—this is bad.

But he still immediately went up and asked, “Xu Tang-ge, why did you come down so quickly?”

Xu Tang used his scarf to cover the lower half of his face that was already wearing a mask, and said in a hoarse voice, “Let’s find a hotel to rest.”

Yuan Shang saw him like this and knew it was not the time to ask more. He immediately said, “Okay, Kang-jie already booked one, we can just go there.”

Xu Tang nodded.

Yuan Shang walked in front and went to the hospital entrance to get a taxi, heading to the hotel.

The hotel was not far from the hospital. Kang Duo was worried that Xu Tang would overwork himself because of Zongxuan’s matter and not sleep well, so she specially chose a place with a high-end suite so he could rest properly.

After arriving and completing check-in, the two of them went upstairs.

Kang Duo booked two rooms, also to let Xu Tang rest well.

Yuan Shang first accompanied Xu Tang to his room, then quickly boiled water so he could drink something later.

After the water was ready, Yuan Shang mixed some room-temperature mineral water and brought it to Xu Tang, who was already curled up on the sofa, and then carefully asked, “Xu Tang-ge, is Zong Yingdi’s condition not optimistic?”

He truly didn’t know why Xu Tang left so quickly. If the condition was really not good, Xu Tang should have stayed there instead.

“He’s fine. He’s okay,” Xu Tang said softly, without touching the water.

“Then you…”

“Nothing,” Xu Tang didn’t want to explain more. He knew he was an idiot himself, no need for everyone else to know.

After a moment of silence, Xu Tang asked, “Did you find out the specific situation?”

He still needed to understand it in order to deal with reporters. Now the incident had just happened, some reporters hadn’t received the news yet, and those who had were still on the way. It was estimated that tomorrow the hospital entrance would be lively.

“Oh, I found out,” Yuan Shang said. “Today, Zong Yingdi had a friend come to visit the set. After the meal they ordered coffee. After he drank some, he suddenly had stomach pain, and Xie Shaoqian didn’t dare delay and immediately sent him to the hospital. The hospital said it was poisoning, a kind of pesticide. The dose wouldn’t be fatal, but it would cause physical discomfort. Xie Shaoqian quickly notified Wen Hui-jie, and she had him report it to the police. Now this matter is under police investigation. The crew members who came along have all returned to the set to cooperate with the investigation.”

Xu Tang frowned. From this, the problem should be with the coffee—but who would put poison in coffee? Was this coincidence or a deliberate targeting of Zongxuan?

His already low mood sank even further, and he also felt a headache. At the same time, he felt like he was being ridiculous—why was he even thinking about this? He might as well wait for the police to handle it.

“Alright, call Kang-jie later and tell her. Let her contact Wen-jie and handle it,” Xu Tang said.

He didn’t know what was happening online, but once reporters arrived and the full news broke out, his phone would definitely be flooded with calls. After tonight, he would turn it off, and anyone wanting to contact him would have to go through Kang Duo. As for the details, it was better to wait for the police or Zongxuan’s side to announce it. There was no place for him here anyway—coming here only made him look ridiculous. He should just stay quiet. After all, who doesn’t care about face?

“Okay. Xu Tang-ge, are you hungry? I’ll order dinner for you,” Yuan Shang asked.

Xu Tang wasn’t very hungry, but thinking that Yuan Shang had come all this way with him, if he didn’t eat, Yuan Shang would probably just make do as well, so he nodded. “Alright, you choose.”

“Okay!” Yuan Shang immediately went to order.

Xu Tang lay on the sofa absentmindedly. Teng Yizheng’s gaze kept replaying in his mind, making him feel tired and uncomfortable.

While waiting for the meal, Yuan Shang called Kang Duo to report the situation. Kang Duo also told him that reporters from all major media were rushing to the city, some had already arrived, and online news was everywhere, telling Xu Tang to be careful when visiting Zongxuan.

Yuan Shang originally wanted to talk about Xu Tang’s condition, but since Xu Tang was present, it wasn’t appropriate, so he decided to call Kang Duo again later after returning to his room.

After dinner, Xu Tang said he was tired and wanted to sleep early. Yuan Shang then returned to his room.

Xu Tang took a shower. He hadn’t brought a change of clothes, so he could only wear a bathrobe, and had the hotel wash his clothes to be delivered tomorrow morning.

Lying on the bed, Xu Tang couldn’t sleep at all. His mind was chaotic, but he just wanted to fall asleep so he wouldn’t have to think about anything.

After tossing and turning for more than an hour, he still couldn’t sleep. He got up, took a bottle of beer from the refrigerator, and went back to bed to drink it. Alcohol could help sleep, but his tolerance was not good, so he rarely drank.

After finishing one small bottle, his mind became even more chaotic. He felt extremely aggrieved and sad, wanting to talk to someone, but didn’t know who to find.

At this time, his phone rang. Without looking, he answered immediately.

“Hello? Who is it?” he mumbled.

“Have you been drinking?” it was Xu Zhou’s voice.

If he were sober, Xu Tang would have denied it immediately or said he only drank a little. But now, drunk Xu Tang didn’t care at all.

“Yes, I drank one bottle, very, very strong!” he said.

Xu Zhou immediately realized something was wrong. Given that Zongxuan had been hospitalized with poisoning, Xu Tang drinking at this time was definitely not normal.

“What happened? Tell me,” Xu Zhou said gently.

At that moment, Xu Tang’s grievance completely exploded.

“Brother, I want a divorce,” he said.
