Chapter 73

This entry is part 73 of 82 in the series Rebirth in the Apocalypse: A New Life

So the two of them held hands again and went to look at the mountain of supplies.

The supplies were actually quite conspicuous. Quan Xiaoyu had simply dumped them on the grass beside the courtyard, without even bothering to organize or tidy them properly.

At this moment, Chu Tian understood even more deeply just how little this guy cared about these sorts of things. It seemed that from now on, when it came to managing their daily life, he would have to rely on himself.

While Chu Tian looked over the haphazardly piled supplies and wondered whether they should be organized, Quan Xiaoyu rummaged through the pile looking for clothes. He certainly didn’t have Chu Tian’s shamelessness.

Soon, Quan Xiaoyu found some clothes and changed into them. He even thoughtfully found a set for Chu Tian.

Chu Tian merely looked at him with a smile, took the clothes, and, rather unusually, didn’t tease him. He simply put them on at his leisure.

“How did you get this miraculous space?”

Even if Chu Tian were an idiot, he knew this definitely wasn’t some kind of ability. It must have been obtained through some other means.

It was rare for the two of them to have such a relaxed mood and so much free time, so Quan Xiaoyu pulled Chu Tian down to sit beside the river and began telling him the story of the jade pendant.

The story included his father, antiques, the jade pendant, the father and son from the Li family, and even the little incident at the park.

Of course, what troubled Quan Xiaoyu the most was the male voice that had appeared when the space recognized him as its master. After that one occasion, the voice had never appeared again.

This was also why Quan Xiaoyu didn’t pay much attention to the space and had never really felt a sense of belonging toward it.

Perhaps, deep down in his subconscious, he believed that the voice was the true master of this place.

After hearing the entire story, Chu Tian remained silent for a long time.

There was simply too much information, and he needed time to digest it.

Finally, he sighed.

“Something this miraculous is unheard of. Even if we wanted to investigate it, we wouldn’t know where to start. It’s better not to get to the bottom of it for now.”

Chu Tian reached out and rubbed Quan Xiaoyu’s head, continuing, “From what we’ve seen so far, the space hasn’t harmed you. For now, that’s enough. If we have more time in the future, I’ll study it carefully.”

“Oh.”

Quan Xiaoyu nodded, then said, “Then I’ll bring you in here often from now on.”

There was a faint, almost imperceptible sweetness in his voice, as though he had just shared a secret belonging exclusively to the two of them with Chu Tian.

“Sure.”

Chu Tian managed to stay serious for less than three seconds before he broke into a wicked grin.

“This place really is completely cut off from the outside world. It’s the ultimate world for just the two of us.”

After saying that, he deliberately put on a ferocious expression and pounced toward Quan Xiaoyu.

“Even if you scream yourself hoarse, nobody will come to save you.”

Quan Xiaoyu was caught completely off guard and was tackled to the ground. But Chu Tian’s deliberately menacing expression made him laugh, so when Chu Tian kept trying to kiss him, Quan Xiaoyu simply giggled and dodged him.

For some reason, the two of them felt especially energetic inside the space.

As they played around, they ended up doing what they had been doing earlier again.

The clothes Quan Xiaoyu had painstakingly dug out were ruined once more.

By the time the two of them returned to the room outside, two hours had already passed.

It was already getting late, and it was time for dinner.

Bai Mingxi and Li Nan hadn’t dared disturb them, but they hadn’t dared leave either. At this point, they were still guarding the door on empty stomachs.

When the two finally walked out of the room, Bai Mingxi’s resentment was practically thick enough to rival smog.

“All right, all right. Let’s go eat together. I’ll give you two some extra food tonight.”

Chu Tian smiled as he placated Bai Mingxi, then casually pointed at the entire box of canned beef Quan Xiaoyu was holding.

Bai Mingxi actually had this kind of thing in his own space as well, but there wasn’t much left, so he usually couldn’t bear to take it out.

Bai Mingxi was just about to cheer when Ouyang Jing hurried over.

There was a trace of worry and tension on his face. It wasn’t until he saw Chu Tian that he seemed to find his pillar of support. He immediately said to Chu Tian,

“Captain Xiao is awake. Go take a look. He… seems a little strange.”

Those words startled everyone.

What did “a little strange” mean?

Xiao Ziran was the leader of their group. Something being wrong with him was certainly not good news.

So they immediately forgot about their hunger and followed Ouyang Jing to Xiao Ziran’s room.

As they walked, Chu Tian grabbed a passing team member and told him to go get Lu Zhongxia.

When they pushed open the door, they saw Xiao Ziran sitting rigidly on the edge of the bed, his eyes tightly closed.

Only when he heard the door open did he open his eyes.

No one immediately approached him. Xiao Ziran also looked them over without saying anything.

It was just that the way he looked at them was extremely strange, as though they were the monsters instead.

“Hey! Doctor, what’s wrong with you?” Chu Tian asked tentatively.

“What’s wrong with me?”

Xiao Ziran’s expression remained strange.

“You’re the ones who are wrong!”

Chu Tian was stunned by the answer, then immediately asked, “Then tell me. What’s wrong with us?”

“You’re all different colors.”

Xiao Ziran made an indescribably pained expression, clearly showing just how much he disliked the sight of them.

Different colors?!

What the hell was that supposed to mean?

Everyone looked at one another.

Seeing their bewildered expressions, Xiao Ziran became confused as well.

“Could it really be me who’s wrong?”

He was looking at Chu Tian when he said this, so Chu Tian immediately nodded, deliberately putting on a sympathetic expression designed to provoke the doctor.

Seeing that the doctor’s mind was clear, Chu Tian’s worries were already relieved by more than half, and he now had the mood to make fun of him.

“Fuck.”

Xiao Ziran muttered under his breath, somewhat helplessly. Then he pointed at Chu Tian.

“Colorful.”

Next, he pointed at Quan Xiaoyu.

“Red.”

Then Li Nan.

“White.”

Then Bai Mingxi.

“Silver.”

Finally, he pointed at Ouyang Jing.

“Golden yellow!”

When Xiao Ziran looked at Ouyang Jing for the last time, his expression was practically indescribable.

Just imagine waking up from a deep sleep, opening your eyes, and seeing a huge golden-yellow face glowing brightly in front of you asking, “You’re awake? Are you okay?”

Then the golden-yellow person left, only for another group of people in all sorts of colors to appear…

If he hadn’t eventually recognized who they all were, Xiao Ziran would definitely have thought he had somehow crossed into another world.

After listening to Xiao Ziran’s description, everyone was astonished as well. They looked at one another, their minds racing as they tried to process this information.

Just then, Zhao Bufan arrived with Lu Zhongxia.

The moment they stepped through the door, Xiao Ziran suddenly pointed at them and burst out laughing.

“Hahaha! Blue! There’s another color!”

Then he pointed at Li Nan and Lu Zhongxia in turn.

“Hahahaha, you two are the same color!”

“No, wait!”

He suddenly examined Li Nan carefully.

“Why are you colorful again? Hahaha! You can change colors too!”

Li Nan looked extremely embarrassed.

Lu Zhongxia and Zhao Bufan, meanwhile, were somewhat frightened.

They had never seen Xiao Ziran like this before. Normally, he was cold and domineering, occasionally putting on a deceptively pleasant smile.

But today…

Was he crazy?

The two of them couldn’t help looking toward Chu Tian simultaneously, silently asking him what was going on.

However, at that very moment, Chu Tian had already grasped the key point.

Colors!

The same colors—and colors that changed!

“Enough messing around. Let me ask you something. You can see a color on every one of us right now, correct?”

Chu Tian immediately ignored everyone else’s reactions and questioned the doctor.

“That’s right. All kinds of colors.”

The doctor shrugged. He was beginning to realize that perhaps something really was wrong with his eyes.

He just hadn’t figured out why his eyes would suddenly develop a problem after merely getting into a fight and sleeping.

“Zhao Bufan.”

Chu Tian called his name.

“Yes.”

Zhao Bufan immediately responded.

“Go get Zuo Li. Have him bring two team members who don’t have abilities with him! Hurry. Run!”

Although the order was somewhat inexplicable, Zhao Bufan carried it out without question, disappearing in an instant.

Hearing Chu Tian mention abilities, Xiao Ziran suddenly thought of something as well.

He carefully examined Chu Tian again, then looked at everyone else.

The speculation that Chu Tian had just brought to the surface in his mind was becoming increasingly clear.

Zuo Li soon arrived with two team members.

The moment they entered, Chu Tian pointed at Zuo Li and asked Xiao Ziran,

“What color is he?”

This time, Xiao Ziran looked extremely serious.

“Purple.”

“And them?”

Chu Tian pointed at the two team members without abilities.

Xiao Ziran looked at them for several seconds, making the two men extremely nervous. They had been summoned in such a hurry without having any idea what was going on.

“No color.”

Xiao Ziran let out a sigh of relief, as though he had finally seen normal people.

“All right. I understand.”

Chu Tian said this calmly, then began sending everyone else out of the room, leaving only himself, Ouyang Jing, and Xiao Ziran inside.

Everyone quickly understood.

It was another meeting among the people in charge. They had nothing to do with it.

So Zuo Li and the others left one after another.

Only Lu Zhongxia squeezed over beside Li Nan and asked what exactly had happened.

Because they had the same type of ability, Li Nan and Lu Zhongxia had developed a bond like comrades-in-arms during this period. So Li Nan gave him a brief explanation, although he couldn’t explain it very clearly himself. After all, he hadn’t figured it out either.

“All right, everyone go eat. The fact that the doctor is like this at least means he’s definitely okay. As long as the doctor is fine, let the three of them deal with everything else. We’re leaving.”

Quan Xiaoyu said this to the three people who remained outside.

Li Nan and Lu Zhongxia thought he had a point, so they stopped discussing the matter and instead started asking what they were having for dinner that night.

Only Bai Mingxi glanced worriedly at the tightly closed door as he left.
