Chapter 34

Luo Ran felt a little troubled.

He could already predict what was coming. He would probably become the star of the forums all over again.

Lucas, however, didn’t seem to feel anything was unusual. Perhaps he was used to this sort of attention. Completely oblivious to the crowd, he walked up to Luo Ran and asked, “Which one do you want?”

A wave of suppressed shrieks rippled through the crowd.

Luo Ran’s ears suddenly turned red, and he felt a little awkward.

“A-any of them…”

Originally, Luo Ran hadn’t thought much of their interaction. Wasn’t this just normal behavior between a superior and subordinate who had worked together for years? But now that everyone was watching—and these were enthusiastic fans who loved shipping them on the forums—Luo Ran couldn’t help feeling embarrassed.

The owner had practically frozen into a statue.

Good heavens… Who are these people? Are they imperial soldiers out here having fun?

No, wait. Would imperial soldiers really come to an amusement park and play like this?

Lucas stepped forward and glanced at the plush toys. In the end, he took a little sheep.

Since it was for Luo Ran, this one would do.

The little sheep was basically a fluffy ball. It was pure white, with a silly, half-asleep expression on its face and two tiny horns on its head.

Lucas thought to himself, Perfect. This suits him.

Soft and fluffy. A little dumb.

“Thank you…” Luo Ran accepted the toy.

“Is there anything else you want?” Lucas asked. “Or something at another booth?”

He sounded as though he had come here to rob the place.

Luo Ran suggested, “Why don’t we go on some more thrilling rides?”

That would also give them an excuse to get away from the crowd. Otherwise, this was getting far too awkward.

Seeing that Lucas didn’t look particularly interested in anything, Luo Ran decided they might as well choose the most thrilling attraction.

The two of them headed to the roller coaster ticket counter and joined the queue.

There were simply too many people in the amusement park, and Lucas was wearing sunglasses. Not everyone recognized them every single moment.

Luo Ran looked at the roller coaster tracks. They soared high into the sky and featured numerous sharp turns. A sign even stated that riders had to be at least eighteen years old.

“Scared?” Lucas stood beside him, raising an eyebrow.

“Of course not.” Luo Ran shook his head with a smile. “I just want to see a different side of you, General.”

“Then just wait and see.”

After leaving the little sheep at the counter for safekeeping, the two followed the queue and climbed aboard. Luo Ran firmly tied up his long hair and fastened his seat belt.

“Five, four, three…”

“Two… one!!”

At the sound of the announcement, the roller coaster slowly began to move.

Rumble—

The train produced a deep, rumbling sound as it raced along the tracks, but the noise was quickly drowned out by wave after wave of screams.

Luo Ran could barely keep his body steady. By nature, he wasn’t someone who would scream out loud, but the violent jolts still left him dizzy. He could only grip the safety bar tightly.

When the roller coaster reached a relatively level section of track, Luo Ran turned to look at Lucas.

Lucas sat perfectly steadily beside him, arms folded across his chest, still looking utterly bored.

If not for his hair being blown into a complete mess by the wind, anyone would have thought he was sitting in a rocking chair.

Only then did Luo Ran remember that Lucas had undergone military training and fought inside mechs.

The shaking during combat was far more severe than anything this roller coaster could produce. Maintaining balance was crucial, and he also had to control the mech while fighting to defeat his enemies.

Lucas glanced at Luo Ran, who was gripping the safety bar for dear life, and even whistled.

“Wimp.”

“Why don’t you scream?” Lucas pointed toward the other riders, who were shrieking like dying chickens, suggesting that Luo Ran could learn from them.

Luo Ran: “…”

This really was no fun at all.

……………….

After getting off the roller coaster, Luo Ran’s legs trembled uncontrollably. He immediately grabbed the railing to steady himself.

His condition was actually pretty good. Some people had thrown up the moment they got off, while others couldn’t even stand and collapsed onto the ground. Still others had forced themselves to make it to a nearby bench to rest.

Luo Ran glanced at Lucas, who was standing beside him.

Lucas folded his arms and looked at him with an interested expression.

“What a different side of my secretary.”

“I’m not bored anymore,” Lucas said with a bright smile. “What’s next? The pirate ship? The drop tower? Let’s try them all.”

Luo Ran: “…”

Pouting, Luo Ran said, “Let’s not do those anymore. How about an escape room?”

At least that wouldn’t require much physical exertion.

Watching Luo Ran turn and walk away, Lucas followed him with a smile.

The escape room had a supernatural horror theme. Players entered in groups and had to solve puzzles to escape one room after another while enduring all sorts of frightening surprises.

Each group needed at least two people and could have no more than five.

Luo Ran and Lucas waited quite a while and stood in a long queue before finally getting inside. Neither of them found the wait particularly tedious, though. While standing in line, they had both reached for their terminals at exactly the same moment…

To read work documents.

As soon as they stepped into the dark room, the atmosphere changed completely.

Candles flickered, cold drafts swept through the air, and strange, eerie noises sounded from time to time.

Luo Ran looked around. The first room was an old, shabby little chamber. Its walls were plastered with a chaotic assortment of things, some of which were smeared with bloodstains. The room contained only three pieces of furniture: a bed, a desk with drawers, and a wardrobe. It was perfectly suited to a horror theme.

Luo Ran and Lucas wordlessly headed for the door they needed to use to escape. They quickly discovered a keyhole in it, which meant they had to find the key.

“Let’s start looking for clues,” Luo Ran said.

The two began searching the room.

Luo Ran started with the bed against the wall. When he lifted the bedsheet, he found a lighter underneath. It looked like a prop.

Then Luo Ran crouched down and bent forward to look beneath the bed.

…

And came face-to-face with a pair of rolled-back eyes.

Luo Ran: “…”

There was a fake corpse hiding under the bed, its eyes staring wildly in his direction.

After a moment’s thought, Luo Ran straightened up and said, “General, there’s a prop under the bed that I can’t reach.”
