Chapter 7

This entry is part 7 of 57 in the series I Was Marked by the Enigma of the Aristocratic Family

Ruan Shuyang was in a bad state. Perhaps it was because he had been sitting next to two alphas earlier, but after leaving the treatment center, his waist ached and his legs felt weak. He could barely walk a few steps without nearly collapsing.

He leaned against a streetlight, closed his eyes, and felt the waves slowly surging through his body.

He recalled the scene from that night when he was marked.

He remembered that person’s body temperature, those large hands…

He suddenly opened his eyes, startled.

His body was instinctively craving the pheromones of that “Mr. Chi.”

It was Enigma’s pheromones, irreplaceable.

Without Mr. Chi’s pheromones, he feared the suppressant would lose its effect.

But how could he find Mr. Chi?

He only knew the man’s surname was Chi and that he was the owner of the club; beyond that, he knew nothing.

The other party had left no contact information, and even Su Yan, who had driven him back that day, hadn’t given him any contact information.

He couldn’t find that person.

Maybe… he should go to the club and take a look?

The thought had barely crossed his mind when it began to grow like wild grass.

Going to the club wouldn’t hurt, anyway, things couldn’t get any worse.

He forced himself to take the subway to the clubhouse and saw the quiet, beautiful five-story European-style building standing not far away, feeling lost and unsure of what to do next.

But even if he did, what would he say? How would he ask for help…?

He instinctively turned his head, but nearly lost his composure upon seeing the person behind him.

He was mistaken; the situation could be even worse—he had encountered Lu Zheng.

His face pale, he slowly backed away, but stumbled and fell to the ground.

Lu Zheng approached him with a cruel smile, staring at him like a hunter fixated on prey that couldn’t escape. He spoke slowly and calmly, “I’ve always wondered how you managed to leave the club safely last time. Since I have some time today, why don’t we have a proper chat?”

  “No, no—”

He reached for his phone to call the police, but before he could open it, he saw Lu Zheng tell the bodyguard beside him, “Take his phone and get in the car.”

He closed his eyes in fear, unable to watch.

After a few minutes, the expected pain did not come as expected, but instead he felt a familiar cold, icy water.

He mustered the courage to open his eyes and saw that someone was standing in front of him.

The person was backlit, and he couldn’t make out their face at first glance, but he could tell they were very tall, their shadow completely enveloping him.

At the same time, the familiar cold tide surrounded him.

He had only felt this tide on one person before—the alpha who had marked him that night… no, the enigma.

He recognized their pheromones.

Was it “Mr. Chi” who had come?

He looked at the enigma before him with surprise and joy, feeling for the first time that perhaps fate had smiled upon him after all.

Pei Siyue ignored the security guard he had kicked to the ground and crouched down to look at Ruan Shuyang, who was still sitting on the ground.

“Are you hurt?”

Ruan Shuyang felt a moment of dizziness, and before he knew it, “Mr. Chi” was crouching down to ask him if he was hurt.

The tall enigma was still much taller than him even when crouching, creating an overwhelming sense of pressure. He instinctively felt tense and stammered, “No, I’m fine.”

But as he said that and tried to stand up, he must have twisted his injured foot again, letting out a cry of pain.

Pei Siyue looked down at him for a moment and asked, “Your foot is injured. Can you still stand up on your own?”

Ruan Shuyang mumbled softly, “Maybe… I can’t stand up anymore.”

He was frustrated that he had fallen and sprained his ankle.

It was a hot summer day, and Ruan Shuyang was wearing a pair of thin cropped pants. Because he was sitting on the ground, the pant legs were pulled up high, revealing his white, delicate calves and ankles wrapped in light-colored socks.

At that moment, one ankle was slightly swollen due to the sprain, and Pei Siyue immediately noticed which foot was injured.

Ruan Shuyang felt awkward and helpless in the presence of Pei Siyue, whose aura was particularly strong. He softly nodded in response, but before he could finish speaking, he was suddenly picked up.

He instinctively gasped and unconsciously wrapped his arms around Pei Siyue’s neck, afraid of falling.

Her slender, white arms wrapped around the person beside her, his forearms unconsciously pressing against the enigma gland.

Pei Siyue’s gaze darkened, but he said nothing, simply holding Ruan Shuyang tightly as he looked at Lu Zheng standing across from them.

Lu Zheng looked at the two of them with an inquisitive yet meaningful gaze, then called out after a moment: “Young Master.”

The bodyguard who had been kicked down by Pei Siyue was still lying on the ground, unable to get up, but neither of them paid any attention to him.

Jiang Wu ran over, panting heavily, still dazed.

He had run over with great effort and saw Pei Siyue holding the fiancée of Pei Siming, whom he had met before, standing across from Lu Zheng. The two seemed to have had an argument.

He was almost speechless with surprise.

  Is this… appropriate?

Why is his boss holding his younger brother’s fiancée?

Last time, someone had seriously told him to watch fewer melodramas, but now, even the melodramas he had watched weren’t as exaggerated as this.

The man who was going to be an uncle in the future was openly holding his younger brother’s fiancée on the street.

Is it because Ruan Shuyang’s legs are completely useless, or is it more tiring to support an omega than to hold one?

Otherwise, why just hold her?

Jiang Wu was completely flustered and had no idea how to handle the situation.

His boss didn’t seem to fear that Ruan Shuyang was sent by Pei Siming. Was it because he was skilled and bold, or did he simply not care about Pei Siming?

This was like falling for a beauty trap and then holding onto it himself. There was no need for the acting to be this realistic. After all, Pei Siyue had always kept his distance from omegas in the past. This was the first time he had seen Pei Siyue hold an omega.

The scene was too shocking, and Jiang Wu temporarily lost his professional composure as a secretary.

Lu Zheng spoke first, asking with a meaningful tone, “If I’m not mistaken, isn’t he the second young master’s fiancée? The eldest young master.”

Ruan Shuyang was being held like this for the first time while fully conscious, as if being cherished, with his head resting against the other person’s chest. From his angle, he could only see Enigma’s elegant yet sharp jawline, his high, straight nose, and a pair of cold, dark eyes.

He felt it was inappropriate to speak in this situation, so he obediently stayed quiet and snuggled up.

However, Lu Zheng’s words still made him nervous and uncertain.

Lu Zheng saying he was the second young master’s fiancée made sense—he had held an engagement ceremony with the second young master of the Pei family, Pei Siming, and was currently his fiancée.

But what did Lu Zheng mean by “the eldest young master”? Who was he referring to?

Shouldn’t the person holding him be Mr. Chi?

He felt anxious and unconsciously gripped Pei Siyue’s shirt.

Pei Siyue lowered his eyes, saw that his shirt was wrinkled, but said nothing. He only looked up at Lu Zheng and said, “The affairs of the Pei family are none of your concern.”

  Lu Zheng sneered.

Pei Siyue lowered his brows, his eyes so dark it was impossible to discern his emotions, his tone icy: “Don’t touch him. You don’t want to know the consequences.”

As the words fell, the pressure of his pheromones made Lu Zheng’s face pale, and he nearly collapsed to his knees.

The pressure from an alpha is always direct; if your pheromones are stronger than the other’s, they will fear you. Lu Zheng dared not say anything else, only glaring resentfully as Pei Siyue carried Ruan Shuyang away.

Jiang Wu politely walked over and handed him a business card, saying that the bodyguard’s medical expenses could be covered by him, before leaving as well.

As he approached the car, he saw Pei Siyue carefully placing the person in the backseat of the stretched Lincoln. He was about to follow inside and sit across from him when Pei Siyue gave him a cold glance, and his feet felt as though they were nailed to the ground, unable to move.

Pei Siyue said indifferently, “Sit in the front seat.”

  “Alright.”

Jiang Wu quickly packed himself into the front passenger seat. Just as he settled in, he heard Pei Siyue, sitting across from Ruan Shuyang in the backseat, say, “Raise the partition.”

Jiang Wu obediently raised the partition. Though he was dying to eavesdrop, he dared not openly disobey his boss’s orders.

After they got into the car, Sun, the secretary by Lu Zheng’s side, asked, “Mr. Lu, should we tell Pei Er about this matter?”

It seemed unusual how close Pei Siyue was to Pei Siming’s fiancée.

“What are you talking about? Should we tell Pei Er so he can prepare and be on guard?” Lu Zheng gave a cruel smile. “How could we tell him something so exciting? Of course, we should let Pei Er discover it himself.”

“I love watching infighting. I can’t wait to see what Pei Er looks like when he finds out.”

His current situation was extremely awkward and agonizing. He didn’t know if his body was aware that he was nearing the pheromones he craved. His already weak limbs were now completely powerless, and waves of unfamiliar sensations caused his entire body to tremble. He was using every ounce of strength to resist that feeling.

Because his entire focus was on resisting his own body, he didn’t notice what the person across from him was doing until his injured ankle was gently lifted and placed on his leg.

The casual shoe was removed, and the light-colored sock was pulled down to the heel. The enigma across from him was looking down at his foot, gently rubbing his tender ankle with his thumb. The slightly rough fingertips left a trail of marks, causing a slight itch.

The ankle in his hand was slender and fragile, easily encircled by one hand. The skin on the ankle was delicate and pale, with visible blue veins, and the delicate, dainty bones of the foot.

Ruan Shuyang bit his lip, unable to escape that strange feeling. His body seemed to instinctively crave the other person’s touch, and the places that were touched brought out waves of numbness and tremors. He couldn’t help but let out a tiny whimper from between his teeth.

Although the sound was light, it was still picked up by Enigma, whose physical abilities were superior to those of ordinary people.

The next moment, Ruan Shuyang’s ankle felt as though it was being gripped even tighter, so tightly that it began to hurt.
