Chapter 12

This entry is part 12 of 106 in the series Married To The Big Boss

That night, in the dorm room, He Xiaoyuan came out of the bathroom after showering, towel-drying his hair, and saw a document from Brother Lu on his phone.

Brother Lu: “I’ve finished revising it. Take a look.”

He Xiaoyuan replied with “Got it, thank you, Brother Lu. [Little dinosaur saluting.jpg]”, then immediately sat down at his desk, opened his laptop, and sent the document from mobile WeChat to desktop WeChat.

Before opening it, he wondered how Brother Lu had revised his assignment.

Once the document opened, He Xiaoyuan was stunned—his eyes practically bulged.

The entire page was packed, dense with red and green comments everywhere.

He thought: earlier he’d felt that the gap between himself and Qin Chengfei was several Yuan Miaos wide. Turns out, in Brother Lu’s eyes, critiquing his work was like a college professor grading an elementary school essay?

While shocked, He Xiaoyuan quickly focused on reading the comments. After just a few lines, his concentration deepened.

He read, reorganized his thinking, and rewrote—and just like that, time slipped by until it was past one in the morning.

When he noticed the time, he didn’t even have room left for surprise. His entire mind was filled with the annotations in the document. He realized that Brother Lu’s way of thinking through cases was comprehensive, high-level, and meticulous—many angles were things he’d never even considered.

Even when he disagreed with what He Xiaoyuan had written, Brother Lu never outright rejected it. Instead, he guided him toward fuller, deeper thinking.

If Yuan Miao and Qin Chengfei made him feel the gap between people, then this annotated assignment from Brother Lu made him feel completely overwhelmed by sheer dominance.

At this point, He Xiaoyuan wasn’t tired at all. Not even sleepy. He felt incredibly alert.

All he could think was that Brother Lu was simply too strong—someone to look up to, to admire, almost to worship.

The computer screen glowed. He Xiaoyuan leaned back in his chair, picked up his phone, and sent Brother Lu a message:

[Little dinosaur bowing.jpg]
[Little dinosaur saluting.jpg]
[Little dinosaur kneeling in worship.jpg]
“Brother Lu, I just finished reading your comments.”
“You’re amazing.”

It was just a burst of late-night emotion. After sending it, he put his phone down and went back to the document, not expecting any reply at such a late hour.

But after only a couple of lines, his phone buzzed.

He paused, picked it up.

Lu: “It’s so late and you’re still not asleep.”

He Xiaoyuan was surprised. It was already past one—Brother Lu wasn’t asleep either? Could he really still be working overtime?

He Xiaoyuan: “Brother Lu, you haven’t rested either? Working late?”

Lu: “Mm. A few things to deal with.”

He Xiaoyuan: “I just finished reading it. I’ll sleep soon.”

Lu: “Just reading the comments wouldn’t take this long. You rewrote it?”

He Xiaoyuan: [Little dinosaur nodding.jpg]
“I reorganized my thinking and rewrote it based on your suggestions.”

Lu: “Let me see.”

He Xiaoyuan was startled.

He Xiaoyuan: “Won’t that delay your overtime work, Brother Lu?”

Lu: “It’s fine. I read things very quickly.”

Only then did He Xiaoyuan send over the newly rewritten document from his computer.

He Xiaoyuan felt a little embarrassed, thinking he was disturbing Brother Lu and taking up his time so late at night.

But just a few minutes later, a reply popped up on his desktop WeChat:

Lu: [Screenshot] “Here, take a look. Maybe consider the target user group for the product.”

He Xiaoyuan immediately focused on Brother Lu’s message. He thought for a moment, hovered his hands over the laptop keyboard, and replied: “I didn’t specifically write about the target group because I considered that the current users cover a wide age range.”

Lu: “You can think about whether users of different age groups have fundamentally different habits when using the internet.”

He Xiaoyuan continued discussing with Brother Lu over the internet. The process of being guided to think about problems was so engaging that he completely lost track of time. When he glanced at the bottom right of the screen, it was almost 2 a.m.

He quickly typed back: [Laugh-cry.jpg] “It’s 2 a.m.! Brother Lu, have you finished working?”
“Really sorry, I got carried away talking.”
[Little dinosaur bowing.jpg]

Lu: “Mm, let’s call it a night for today.”

He Xiaoyuan: “Thank you for teaching me, Brother Lu. [Little dinosaur bowing.jpg]”

Lu: “No need. [Big dinosaur patting little dinosaur’s head.jpg]”
“It’s late, go to sleep.”

He Xiaoyuan: “Good night, Brother Lu.”

Lu: “Good night.”

He waited a moment to make sure Brother Lu wouldn’t reply anymore, then closed his laptop. Stretching, he finally felt a little sleepy, but not tired at all. Instead, he was happy—he felt lucky to have someone guiding him at work.

He walked to the balcony and looked out into the dark night, not in a hurry to sleep. Over the years, he had stayed out late from school and part-time jobs, so he was used to these quiet, empty nights.

But now it was different: before, he always rushed back to the dorm or his aunt’s house to rest, needing energy for school or work the next day. Now, even though he had to get up for work tomorrow, there was no need to rush—everything was moving in a positive direction.

He smiled quietly at the night sky and finally drew the curtains.

The next day, with Brother Lu’s permission, He Xiaoyuan shared Lu’s annotated assignment with the office team. Some viewed it at their desks, while Yuan Miao and Zou Fanping gathered around He Xiaoyuan’s computer.

Yuan Miao glanced over and exclaimed, “Who’s the genius that annotated this? Incredible!”

Zou Fanping: “Truly visionary.”

He Xiaoyuan explained that the person was the senior colleague from the onboarding “help card” in his welcome package: “Brother Lu.”

Yuan Miao immediately corrected himself: “Brother Lu? This is Lu God!”

Brother Lu’s annotations gave everyone in Team One new perspectives and directions for thinking about cases. Not only did He Xiaoyuan benefit, but everyone gained something.

That day, a whiteboard was brought into the office. Yuan Miao led a session, guiding everyone to reorganize their thoughts, followed by another round of brainstorming. Afterward, everyone returned to their desks to rewrite their assignments.

Over in HR, they discussed the two teams:
“Team Two’s assignments are either really good or really bad.”
“They’ve just joined, still getting used to things. Give them a couple days.”

Newly submitted assignments brought a smile to Zhu Xuanmin:
“I told you Team One works hard—they rewrote the last department’s assignments together.”

“They rewrote them? That’s dedication.”

Zhu Xuanmin: “More than that. All resources in Team One are shared, and the atmosphere is great.”

“It’s true. Every time we help the CEO’s office deliver afternoon tea, Team One is always chatting and laughing.”

At the airport VIP lounge for private jets, Lu Chen, busy working on his computer, received the management trainees’ assignments from the CEO’s office. Skipping over the other teams’ work, he went straight to He Xiaoyuan’s submission.

Scanning it quickly, Lu Chen raised an eyebrow—it wasn’t the assignment he had seen last night. This was the rewritten version after chatting with the young trainee over WeChat.

Apparently, someone hadn’t gone to sleep after saying good night—they kept working on their assignment. Dedication was real.

Lu Chen didn’t actually endorse the idea of working late at the expense of rest, but knowing He Xiaoyuan had such diligence and determination, he found himself privately admiring it, a small smile appearing at the corner of his lips.

Closing the document, Lu Chen picked up his phone next to his laptop.

Lu: “What time did you sleep yesterday?”

He Xiaoyuan, quietly working at the new department, slipped out his phone and, taking advantage of being on the edge of the group, replied softly: “Not very late.”
“Brother Lu, I’m at the rotation, can’t chat right now.”

Lu: [Big dinosaur patting little dinosaur’s head.jpg]

He Xiaoyuan put his phone back in his pocket and looked up, continuing to listen to the supervisor introduce the department.

That weekend, both Team One and Team Two came into the office. When members of the two groups met in the elevator, neither gave the other a glance; the “us vs. them” attitude was clear.

Yuan Miao rushed to the HR office to grab the whiteboard, but was too late—Qin Chengfei from Team Two had already taken it.

Yuan Miao returned to the office and pulled out his phone: “I’ve got money, I’ll buy it!”

Jiang Weiwei: “Buy what? You’d still have to wait for delivery. Just borrow one from upstairs or downstairs.”

Xin Rui: “Who will go borrow it?”

Zou Fanping: “I’ll go.”

Someone else: “Why you? You’re not attractive. He Xiaoyuan, handsome guy, you go!”

So He Xiaoyuan and Zou Fanping ran upstairs together, cleverly using one person’s face and the other’s mouth, and successfully borrowed a large whiteboard.

Yuan Miao, standing in front of the large whiteboard like a university lecturer, pen in hand, looked at the two rows of “colleagues” seated before him. He straightened his posture, puffed out his chest, and said as seriously as he could: “Alright, first tell me—what’s our goal?”

Zou Fanping clenched his fist and raised his hand, taking the lead: “Crush Team Two!”

The others followed in perfect unison: “Crush Team Two!”

He Xiaoyuan held back his laughter, quietly amused.

That day, he sent a newly rewritten assignment to Brother Lu.

He Xiaoyuan: “Thanks a lot, Brother Lu. [Little dinosaur obedient.jpg]”

Brother Lu replied instantly: “Okay, I’ll take a look.”

While He Xiaoyuan was busy with other tasks, waiting for Lu’s feedback, someone burst in from outside, panting: “Damn, Team Two even has outside help! I just passed their room and saw a guy who looked like a leader giving them a ‘lecture’ at the whiteboard!”

Everyone: “……”

Someone muttered: “Cheater!”

Zou Fanping then shouted: “Xiaoyuan, did you send your assignment to Lu God?”

He Xiaoyuan: “Yes.”

Yuan Miao chimed in: “Why worry? We’ve got a cheat too! Brother Lu is our cheat!”

Not long after, Brother Lu sent back the annotated document.

He Xiaoyuan replied “Received, thanks Brother Lu”, and announced: “Here it comes.”

Yuan Miao: “Post it to the group.”

The whole team gathered around He Xiaoyuan’s computer to look at Lu’s annotations, and the office fell silent.

After a while, He Xiaoyuan was the first to speak: “Shall we organize our thoughts together?”

Yuan Miao immediately went to the whiteboard: “Let’s do it.”

A group’s collective thinking naturally surpassed what one person could do alone. Of course, this also raised more questions.

With questions in hand, the team had He Xiaoyuan, as their liaison with Brother Lu, send them via WeChat.

As Lu answered them one by one, someone around He Xiaoyuan’s computer suggested: “Why don’t we make a group and add Lu God?”

Another: “No, that’d bother him. We’re already troubling him enough.”

“True.”

“Better for Xiaoyuan to handle it alone.”

Once Lu finished answering on WeChat, he asked: “Got it?”

He Xiaoyuan: “Got it, thanks Brother Lu. [Little dinosaur salute.jpg]”

Lu: [Big dinosaur patting little dinosaur’s head.jpg]

Several heads leaned in, all eyes fixed on the green dinosaur emoji conversation.

Zou Fanping broke the silence: “Xiaoyuan, you’re using the wrong emoji! Why salute Lu God?”

Xin Rui: “Yeah, at least make a heart gesture.”

Jiang Weiwei: “Is that all? No other emojis?”

He Xiaoyuan held the mouse, bewildered: “Not enough? Others?”

Yuan Miao: “Wow, so pure-faced… how can someone be this innocent?”

He Xiaoyuan suspected Yuan Miao actually meant “dumb,” not “innocent.” He glanced at the others and blinked.

Yuan Miao: “Someone teach him.”

Zou Fanping: “I got this.”

He took the mouse from He Xiaoyuan.

Xin Rui and Jiang Weiwei pulled out their phones: “I have emojis, I’ll send them to you.”

Soon, He Xiaoyuan watched as his WeChat sent a flurry of heart and kiss emojis to Brother Lu.

He Xiaoyuan:

[Cat heart.jpg]
[Heart blast.jpg]
[Heart biubiu.jpg]
[Kitten tilting head wink.jpg]
[Kittens kissing.jpg]
[Hug and kiss.jpg]
[Little dinosaur flying kiss.jpg]

He Xiaoyuan: “……”
