On the way back, Lin Yushu remained silent, gazing out the window.
After calming down, he realized that Song Qiming didn’t owe him any explanation. In the business world, it was always about interests, not emotions. They were neither relatives nor close friends, so why would Song Qiming bother considering his feelings?
In fact, Song Qiming hadn’t even harmed his interests with his actions.
However, the discomfort in Lin Yushu’s heart was real. After having several glasses of strong alcohol at the bar earlier, the alcohol was starting to affect his mind, making him feel uneasy.
The constantly receding street scenes seemed to be conducive to wandering thoughts.
Lin Yushu thought about Yong Xing’s development and his own promotion, feeling that many things would be disrupted by Song Qiming.
Let’s think positively.
Even if Song Qiming now owned around 5% of the shares of the listed company, he couldn’t influence any of the company’s decisions.
Firstly, there was the shareholders’ meeting. The Yong Xing Holding Group controlled over 50% of the shares of the listed company, and as the big boss of the holding group, Shao Zhenbang had absolute power over life and death.
Secondly, there was the board of directors. Among the 11 director seats of the listed company, six were occupied by Shao’s family members. Song Qiming wouldn’t have any opportunity to take advantage of.
So, in the end, the shares in Song Qiming’s hands could only manifest in dividend rights.
When the company’s stock price rose, his own value would rise as well.
This also confirmed what he said, that he wanted Yong Xing to develop well because his own success was tied to Yong Xing’s success and vice versa.
But then again, Lin Yushu found it hard to convince himself that all Song Qiming wanted was dividend rights.
How could a man with such ambition entrust his future to someone else?
While 5% of the shares might not have much influence, Shao Zhenbang’s health was worrying, and the matter of Shao and Xu’s divorce had not been settled. All of this made it difficult for Lin Yushu to see where things were heading.
After coming up from the parking lot of the residential complex, Lin Yushu treated Song Qiming as if he were transparent and walked straight towards his own home.
However, before he reached the doorstep, Song Qiming grabbed his wrist. “Don’t go back yet.”
Lin Yushu frowned, tried to twist his wrist, but couldn’t break free.
“I only found out tonight that it’s your birthday, and I didn’t prepare in advance,” Song Qiming said as he came up behind Lin Yushu, pushing his shoulders and leading him towards his own home. “You can choose anything in my house as a birthday gift.”
“I don’t want your gift,” Lin Yushu tried to step back, but Song Qiming stood like a wall, blocking him from behind. He could only be pushed forward.
“How can you not want a gift on your birthday?” Song Qiming brought Lin Yushu inside his house, afraid that he would run away. He closed the door behind them. “Whatever you want in my house, I can give it to you.”
Other people’s things would undoubtedly be second-hand goods. Although Song Qiming’s suggestion seemed insincere, he took the initiative to bring Lin Yushu to his display cabinet, where rare racing car models were showcased.
Usually, Lin Yushu would be delighted because he also had a hobby of collecting racing car models, but Song Qiming’s collection was much more extensive than his.
But now, as he looked at the cabinet full of beautiful models, Lin Yushu could only think of one word—bribery.
If he didn’t have any value to exploit, would Song Qiming be so generous?
“Are you sure I can pick anything?” Lin Yushu asked.
“Yes,” Song Qiming said and took out a model from the display cabinet. “McLaren P1, the interior is perfectly replicated. Do you like it?”
“I like it, I’ll take this one,” Lin Yushu said casually, glancing at Song Qiming’s wrist. “I want your watch.”
Song Qiming was taken aback. “What?”
“The McLaren car and Richard Mille collaboration watch on your wrist.”
A watch worth 1.4 million, limited to 500 pieces worldwide.
“I like this one,” Lin Yushu said. “Give it to me.”
Song Qiming seemed to snap out of it from Lin Yushu’s audacious request and raised an eyebrow. “Are you so greedy?”
Lin Yushu calmly replied, “I learned from you.”
Song Qiming wasn’t one to back down from a challenge, so was Lin Yushu a saint?
Since they were discussing interests, let it be purely about that. Lin Yushu helped Song Qiming resolve the issue with Shao Guangjie during the acquisition. Asking for a watch as a reward shouldn’t be a big deal.
A visible hint of pain flashed in Song Qiming’s eyes. Seeing his expression, Lin Yushu suddenly felt extremely satisfied.
Finally, he found an outlet to release the frustration that had built up all night. He was going to take advantage of Song Qiming.
“If you don’t want to give, just say it,” Lin Yushu confidently raised his chin, turned around, and headed towards the front door. “Why pretend to be generous?”
“Wait,” Song Qiming gritted his teeth, grabbed Lin Yushu’s wrist, took off his own watch, and put it on Lin Yushu’s wrist. “Here, it’s yours. Don’t be mad at me anymore.”
Lin Yushu lifted his wrist and looked at the watch. “You better not regret it.”
“I won’t,” Song Qiming said. “As long as you stop being mad at me.”
Although Lin Yushu had a decent annual salary, spending over a million on a watch was beyond his usual spending level.
Obviously, he couldn’t wear this watch outside since it was “extorted” from Song Qiming, and it had his initials engraved on the dial. Regardless, it wouldn’t become Lin Yushu’s possession.
Of course, Lin Yushu hadn’t intended to flaunt the watch in public in the first place. He simply wanted to make Song Qiming suffer a loss.
Now that he had achieved his goal, he could only wear the watch at home to satisfy his craving.
A luxury watch truly lived up to its name. The weight on his wrist felt substantial but not burdensome. It gave a sense of solidity and reliability.
Lin Yushu remembered wearing the watch when he went to bed, but when he woke up the next morning…
His wrist was empty.
He looked at the bedside table, but there was no sign of the watch. Lin Yushu suddenly felt a sense of confusion. Could it be that he had dreamt it all after drinking too much last night?
But could a dream be so vivid?
Today was Saturday, and he didn’t have to go to work. Lin Yushu spent over half an hour searching his home but couldn’t find the watch.
He started to feel anxious. How could this happen?
It was unlikely that a thief broke in since the security in the residential complex was very tight.
After thinking it over, Lin Yushu could only come to one conclusion—could last night have been a dream?
Outside the door, the sound of Song Qiming returning from walking his dog could be heard. Lin Yushu rushed to the door, composed himself, and opened it, looking at Song Qiming in front of him. “I have a question for you.”
“Hmm?” Song Qiming stopped opening the door, puzzled.
“Last night,” Lin Yushu tried to remain calm. “You gave me the watch, right?”
“I did,” Song Qiming said. “You promised not to be mad at me anymore.”
“Oh.” So it wasn’t a dream.
Lin Yushu made a motion to close the door when Song Qiming seemed to realize something was wrong and walked towards Lin Yushu. “You didn’t lose the watch, did you?”
“No,” Lin Yushu immediately denied. “I just…”
He bit his lip, appearing calm on the surface but panicking inside. “Maybe… I forgot where I put it.”
“In your own house, and you forget?” Song Qiming walked into Lin Yushu’s home, holding Wowo’s leash, looking around. “When did you last see it?”
“This morning,” Lin Yushu rubbed the back of his head with a headache. “It was there when I went to sleep last night.”
“Do you have a habit of sleepwalking?” Song Qiming walked to the living room, picked up a cushion that Lin Yushu had already searched, and inspected it. “Could you have placed it somewhere randomly?”
“No,” Lin Yushu also bent down, searching under the coffee table. “I sleep very soundly.”
“Then why isn’t it here?” Song Qiming walked towards the kitchen. “Did you have a late-night snack? Could you have put the watch in the kitchen while eating?”
“No,” Lin Yushu got up from the carpet. “I slept with the watch on.”
The conversation abruptly halted at this point. Lin Yushu subconsciously looked towards the kitchen, only to see Song Qiming looking at him with a smirk. “You like it that much? You even wore it to sleep?”
Lin Yushu’s ears turned slightly red. “Mind your own business.”
“Did you wear it while taking a shower?” Song Qiming walked into the bathroom. “Could you have left it here?”
“I’ve already checked the bathroom, it’s not there.”
Lin Yushu focused on flipping through the TV cabinet when suddenly the sound of the bathroom cabinet opening came from the bathroom. Following that was a light laugh from Song Qiming. “You have such a specific preference? All white underwear.”
“You!” Lin Yushu’s face instantly turned red. He rushed into the bathroom and closed the bathroom cabinet. “Stop snooping through my stuff!”
“Why did you put your underwear in the bathroom cabinet?” Song Qiming curiously asked.
“I change after taking a shower, what’s the problem?” Lin Yushu replied irritably.
“True,” Song Qiming nodded thoughtfully. “Having to go to the wardrobe for underwear every time you shower is indeed troublesome.”
Wait, the wardrobe?
A flash of realization crossed Lin Yushu’s mind. He hurriedly went to the bedroom, opened the wardrobe door, and then crouched in front of the safe, entering a series of numbers.
The next second, the safe door popped open, and the watch was lying on top of a pile of gold bars.
Lin Yushu: “…”
Getting older, he really needed to improve his memory.
Unsurprisingly, Song Qiming’s laughter resounded by his side—one, two—it made Lin Yushu want to dig a hole and bury himself.
“You actually put the gift I gave you in the safe?” Song Qiming said.
“Is it not allowed?” Lin Yushu pushed Song Qiming towards the exit. “Get out.”
“So, you’re hiding gold bars in the bedroom?” Song Qiming couldn’t help but laugh more and more. “Only my grandfather used to do this kind of thing in our family.”
“Are you leaving or not?” Irritating!
“Okay, okay, I’ll go.” Although he said that, Song Qiming remained in place, grabbing Lin Yushu’s hands that were pushing him and said, “You didn’t answer me yesterday. Will you still help me after this?”
Lin Yushu had thought about this a lot while showering and before going to sleep yesterday. Song Qiming’s success was tied to Yong Xing, and his failure would also affect them. Wasn’t he the same?
The social status he possessed was all thanks to Yong Xing, so he hoped that Yong Xing would develop well.
At the moment, it seemed that Song Qiming was indeed more capable than Shao Guangjie, but ultimately, it would depend on Shao Zhenbang’s intentions, and Lin Yushu didn’t dare to take sides recklessly.
“I have a question for you, Song Qiming.” Lin Yushu pulled his wrist back from Song Qiming’s grasp.
“Go ahead,” Song Qiming said.
“Last night, when you said you wanted something, and that included me,” Lin Yushu paused, feeling inexplicably nervous. “What did you mean by that?”
“I need you as my assistant,” Song Qiming answered naturally. “You’re very capable, and I want you on my side.”
…Haha, an assistant.
What exactly was he expecting?
“Oh,” Lin Yushu said expressionlessly, pushing Song Qiming out of the foyer and then forcefully closing the door.
With a deafening “bang” accompanied by a cool morning breeze, it left Song Qiming somewhat bewildered.
“Is he mad again?” He looked at Wowo, who was equally confused, by his side. “He’s so difficult to appease. Think of a solution quickly.”
