Chapter 25
The night fell, and Xiao Yi, who had been indulging himself for several days, returned to his villa. After washing away the alcohol and combing his hair, he entered his bedroom. However, he noticed a box of items still piled up in the corner, which irritated him. He made a call to his unreliable bodyguard:
“What’s the deal with that box of stuff? I asked you to take it away, why is it still here? Your courage seems to be growing, always opposing me. Are you planning to rebel?”
“Master…” Alì said weakly, “I was planning to take it away, but that day, I happened to run into… um, that person. He told me not to throw it away.”
Xiao Yi was taken aback. “What was he doing here?”
“He came to see you. It seems like he has come more than once, and I happened to run into him that day. He seemed to… care about you a lot.”
“He cares about me? Hah.” Xiao Yi sneered. “He’d probably prefer it if I stayed far away.”
Alì didn’t dare to provoke him and went along with the conversation. “I was just guessing. I’m not sure, maybe he had some difficulties and came to ask for your help? Anyway, he seemed really anxious and kept asking me where you were.”
“He dares to ask for my help? Isn’t he afraid I’ll get rid of him?” Xiao Yi kicked the box with frustration. “Did he mention anything else?”
“No…”
Xiao Yi became even more annoyed. “You don’t know anything? Why do I keep you around? Don’t contact him privately again, or I’ll replace you. Got it?”
Alì quickly agreed.
Xiao Yi hung up the phone, feeling restless. He stood next to the box of items, lost in thought.
Click, the doorbell rang downstairs.
Xiao Yi frowned. Who could it be at this late hour? He walked to the entrance and checked the security monitor—a person he least wanted to see was standing there.
His finger hesitated for a moment, but then he pressed the reject button.
However, the person on the screen didn’t give up and pressed the doorbell again. At the same time, Fu Yu’s voice came from outside, “Xiao Yi! I need to talk to you!”
Fu Yu rarely raised his voice like this. He recalled what Alì had said, “Maybe he encountered some difficulties.” Instead of rejecting the call again, Xiao Yi pressed the answer button this time.
“Get lost.”
He only said this one word but didn’t end the call, waiting to see how Fu Yu would react.
“I’m not leaving,” Fu Yu surprisingly didn’t leave, his voice was unbelievably gentle, “I won’t leave until you open the door.”
Xiao Yi was still unable to see Fu Yu’s expression through the screen, but the sound of his voice felt like ripples on a calm lake.
He regained his composure and coldly said, “Then you can stay out here forever.”
The night wind was strong, and Fu Yu’s suit jacket wasn’t thick. It had been ruffled by the wind, and his usually impeccable hairstyle was now in disarray. He stood in the strong wind for an hour.
Xiao Yi furrowed his brows. “I told you to leave, didn’t you hear me?”
Fu Yu stared straight at him, the clear moonlight reflected in his eyes, and there was a light in them that seemed different from before.
He suddenly reached through the gate and raised his hand to Xiao Yi’s head, gently brushing his damp hair.
“I’m sorry,” Fu Yu’s eyes were slightly red, and his fingers were trembling. “It’s my fault, all my fault. You’ve never done anything wrong.”
Xiao Yi was momentarily stunned, as if his heart had stopped beating.
He finally managed to speak, “What’s wrong with you?” After a moment of hesitation, he reluctantly opened the gate. “Is there something we need to—”
Before he could finish his sentence, the person in front of him rushed into his arms.
Fu Yu buried his head in Xiao Yi’s neck, repeating “I’m sorry” over and over again. His body trembled uncontrollably, and he held Xiao Yi tightly, his arms exerting so much force as if he was afraid Xiao Yi would push him away.
Xiao Yi didn’t dare to breathe for a moment, afraid that he would wake up from this dream.
Until his heartbeat and breath gradually returned, becoming more intense, shattering his defenses, and melting his hardened heart. Xiao Yi gently wrapped his arms around Fu Yu’s shoulders and lightly patted his back.
“What happened? Don’t be afraid, I’m here, everything will be okay…”
He thought Fu Yu must have encountered some serious situation, so serious that he had no choice but to lower himself to apologize and even hug him like this. This didn’t seem like the usual Fu Yu. Unless he had reached a dead end.
Fu Yu seemed to freeze for a moment, then finally raised his head. His eyes were redder, and he appeared to not believe that he was forgiven so easily.
“Don’t you hate me? I said such things to you and even hit you…”
Xiao Yi couldn’t bear to see Fu Yu in such a pitiful state. He leaned down and kissed Fu Yu’s forehead, treating it as if he had received his due reward, and wiped away their past grievances:
“How could I possibly hate you… You don’t have to lower yourself like this to please me. Just tell me what’s going on.”
Fu Yu looked at him blankly.
Then, a strong gust of wind blew by, and he regained his senses.
He pursed his lips and spoke with a gentle tone, “Let’s go inside and talk, okay?”
“Okay.” Xiao Yi was completely overwhelmed by Fu Yu’s unusual behavior today. Even though it was his own house, it felt like he was being led by Fu Yu into the house. Led, yes, Fu Yu was holding his hand.
It felt like a dream.
