Chapter 82

This entry is part 82 of 92 in the series ABO Drooping‑Eared Butler

Lu Shangjin stopped him from coming any closer. The dignified CEO of the Feiying Group, after venting his anger on the vase, still had to crouch on the floor and painfully pick up the shards of glass—he wasn’t really upset about the vase, but afraid the broken glass would cut his precious wife’s feet.

He didn’t want to bring up that bouquet either. He didn’t want any other man’s name appearing in this house. He was supposed to be the only Alpha in Yan Yi’s heart, the one who could firmly mark this territory of his.

Back when he was still in school, the report card that Lu Lin had once disdainfully tossed onto the table was picked up by Yan Yi instead. With his little rabbit ears bouncing, Yan Yi ran over to him like he was presenting a sacred treasure, carefully smoothing out the report card and holding it up in front of him with a look of admiration and surprise.

The little rabbit said his older brother was a top student. He even secretly pasted the report card inside his wardrobe where he slept, and drew three little red flowers with a red pen in the “parent signature” line.

At that time, Lu Shangjin still wore a cold and proud expression, but the arrogance in his eyes had already softened back into something youthful and childish. He took Yan Yi to eat expensive ice cream, watching the smaller rabbit—one head shorter than him—squint in satisfaction. He wiped the cream from the corner of Yan Yi’s lips and naturally licked it off his own finger.

Even at that age, he could already tell flattery from sincerity. Every time he brought home good grades, there was only one person applauding and cheering for him. Lu Shangjin only ever needed that one audience member.

Yan Yi, holding his belly, stood a few steps away, quietly trying to recall which taboo had triggered Lu Shangjin over a simple bouquet of baby’s breath.

An image of a little lion cub flashed through his mind, and then he suddenly understood. A faint, almost teasing smile appeared in his eyes, making Lu Shangjin pause in confusion.

“You’re really petty,” Yan Yi said. He went to the bathroom, took out alcohol and gauze, and saw a used syringe of strong suppressants in the trash bin.

A high-intensity suppressant. It was the same one he used before. He didn’t know why Lu Shangjin had taken it, but that kind of pain—like being torn apart from the inside—must have already been experienced.

His Alpha had not gone out chasing lovers recently. For a lust-driven Alpha like him, that was unusual.

Lu Shangjin stood there dumbly while Yan Yi cleaned his wounds. He looked like a large golden retriever waiting for its owner to tend to it.

Before Yan Yi could finish tying the bandage, Lu Shangjin suddenly grabbed his wrist and slammed him against the wall, asking in a frantic voice, “Are you going to leave me after you give birth? Are you going to take the child and leave me? You’re going to abandon me, aren’t you?”

Yan Yi tried to push him away, struggling as his small rabbit ears sank into his hair. The more he resisted, the tighter Lu Shangjin’s grip became. An unstable Alpha in rut couldn’t control his strength properly.

Then Yan Yi suddenly softened, resting his head against Lu Shangjin’s chest.

The raging Alpha instantly calmed down.

He released his claws and instinctively wrapped his wings around the fragile little rabbit, sheltering him.

A damp warmth spread across his chest. One moment Lu Shangjin was losing control, the next he had completely melted, his anger gone without a trace. He gently cupped Yan Yi’s face and murmured, “You’ve stolen my heart. I can’t live without you.”

Yan Yi only buried his face deeper into his chest, avoiding eye contact, afraid to see the helplessness in his Alpha’s eyes.

He silently pointed toward the two pots of water lilies on the balcony.

These flowers were delicate; if left unattended they should have wilted—but they hadn’t. “I watered them,” Yan Yi thought. “Where did the nutrient solution come from? I bought it. And now he’s jealous over nothing.”

That night, after coaxing Yan Yi to sleep, Lu Shangjin finally calmed down. Listening to the steady breathing of his Omega, he confirmed that his beloved was still there, and finally relaxed.

The weather had turned warmer. Yan Yi, naturally sensitive to heat, often asked for ice cubes to chew on when they were in the Golden Triangle. Lu Shangjin had always given in to him.

Now, however, with a pregnant belly, he couldn’t indulge freely. Even the air conditioning couldn’t be turned too low. Yan Yi tossed and turned, waking up at five or six in the morning, complaining of heat.

Half-asleep, he tugged at Lu Shangjin’s clothes and muttered for cool air. Lu Shangjin sat up and used a magazine to fan him, even gently flapping Yan Yi’s rabbit ears for ventilation.

Meals became another battlefield. Yan Yi deliberately delayed eating until the food cooled, but Lu Shangjin would reheat it. Yan Yi complained it was too hot; Lu Shangjin would cool it again.

Yan Yi also refused meat, only eating vegetables. Lu Shangjin could only sigh and cook carefully prepared dishes, while Yan Yi picked out only tomatoes.

Yet even as he complained, Lu Shangjin’s eyes remained gentle and indulgent.

As Yan Yi’s belly grew larger—like a small watermelon—Lu Shangjin treated him like treasure, carrying him everywhere.

At eight months, Yan Yi began to experience chest discomfort and swelling. One night, Lu Shangjin gently massaged him, and Yan Yi endured it while blushing and covering his face.

After a call with Doctor Zhong, Lu Shangjin learned how to help relieve the pain. He carefully massaged him, while Yan Yi trembled in his arms.

Soon after, Yan Yi gave birth.

There were no complications, no heavy bleeding. The little baby rabbit came into the world crying loudly, tiny ears and tail still soft and wrinkled.

Lu Shangjin collapsed to his knees outside the delivery room afterward, shaking uncontrollably, asking in a hoarse voice if Yan Yi was in pain.

After Yan Yi was moved to the ward, Lu Shangjin was forced to undergo treatment for his injuries. Doctor Zhong warned him that without surgery, he would risk losing his arm.

Reluctantly, he agreed.

In the ward, Yan Yi rested with their newborn baby beside him. Lu Shangjin leaned over and gently kissed both of them.

But suddenly, alarms blared through the hospital.

Doctor Zhong was shot and thrown back into the operating room. A voice shouted: “Yan Yi has been taken!”

Lu Shangjin felt the world freeze.

He tore out his IV line and rushed out, grabbing surgical blades mid-air as he charged through the corridor.

Bodies fell one after another.

When he finally reached Yan Yi’s ward—

The entire wall had been blown open.

Yan Yi and the baby were gone.
