Chapter 9

It was clearly not his imagination, as Wang Li’s face suddenly turned pale, and she quickly shook her head. “No… it wasn’t me…”

It truly wasn’t Wang Li’s fault.

When Shen Yan jumped out of the window, he landed in a small flowerbed filled with rose bushes, and he accidentally scratched himself on a thorn, resulting in a bit of blood.

In his haste, he hadn’t paid attention to it; he only rinsed it off with water. At this moment, he had completely forgotten about it, but when he had pushed Wang Li away earlier, he must have exerted too much force, causing it to bleed a little again.

However, it wasn’t a big deal; he didn’t understand why Su Yunzhe was so angry, even disregarding Duan Yang’s presence.

On the contrary, seeing Wang Li tremble in fear was quite satisfying, so he lingered a bit longer before slowly speaking, “I accidentally cut myself.”

Su Yunzhe finally let go of Wang Li and turned to Shen Yan, frowning. “Let’s go to the hospital to get it treated.” He then grabbed Shen Yan and started to head inside.

Shen Yan was completely bewildered. Did they really need to go to the hospital for a wound that was less than half a centimeter long and would heal by itself in half an hour? Wouldn’t the doctor think they were crazy?

Was this Su Yunzhe really too out of touch with reality or just overreacting?

He quickly held him back. “No, no, no! It’s just a small cut; a Band-Aid will do. President Su, really, there’s no need to make it a big deal.”

Su Yunzhe stopped, holding his hand to inspect it closely. After a moment, he seemed to agree with Shen Yan’s reasoning and stopped insisting on going to the hospital, simply pulling Shen Yan into the car instead.

At this point, Wang Li finally breathed a sigh of relief. When Su Yunzhe had been staring at her earlier, she felt as if she was prey being hunted by a beast, and her legs were shaking; she could hardly muster the energy to explain herself.

Coming back to her senses, she felt embarrassed and angrily said, “Who is that person? Why is he so…”

“Shut up!” Duan Yang, who had been patient until now, had reached his limit and directly interrupted Wang Li. “Don’t bother that woman anymore; she’s not Shen Yan.”

“Did Brother Yang confirm it?” Shen Jiaqi asked.

Duan Yang’s tone softened a bit when addressing Shen Jiaqi. He nodded, “It’s confirmed; she belongs to Su Yunzhe. Don’t provoke her.”

If Duan Yang had any lingering doubts about Shen Yan’s identity, after what just happened, he was now completely convinced.

Shen Yan had just a little blood on his finger, and Su Yunzhe looked like he wanted to eat someone. If they were only in a business relationship, no one would believe it.

“Su Yunzhe? The owner of Yunkong Entertainment?” Wang Li, unfazed by Duan Yang’s reprimand, immediately pressed on upon hearing Su Yunzhe’s name.

Duan Yang ignored her and turned back towards the hospital.

Wang Li wanted to ask more, but she was stopped by Shen Jiaqi, who pulled her along into the hospital.

Meanwhile, in Su Yunzhe’s car, the atmosphere was a bit strange.

“Hand over here,” Su Yunzhe’s tone was starting to show impatience.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Shen Yan’s eyes were fixed on the disinfectant alcohol in Su Yunzhe’s hand, shaking his head vigorously. “No, no, no, President Su, don’t worry about me; I can take care of it myself.”

Was Su Yunzhe out of his mind? Why was he so fixated on this little cut on his finger? Did he really need to disinfect it?

What kind of joke was that? It didn’t even hurt when he cut it; why should he endure this pain now?

Shen Yan had always hated pain, especially the stinging sensation of alcohol on a wound. Just thinking about it made his scalp tingle.

He had thought that Su Yunzhe would just pull out a Band-Aid from the medical kit, but instead, the guy took out medical alcohol and a cotton swab to apply it to his hand.

Shen Yan flinched and quickly withdrew his hand.

But no matter how much he protested, Su Yunzhe insisted on disinfecting it. “Extend your hand; otherwise, the contract is void.”

Shen Yan: “……”

Damn it!

What on earth was going on in Su Yunzhe’s mind? Shen Yan really wanted to open up his head and take a look; he couldn’t understand his thought process at all.

He really wanted to remind this rich benefactor that this was his hand! He thought it was fine, so couldn’t Su Yunzhe just leave it alone?

But alas, he had grasped onto his lifeline!

He could only grit his teeth and extend his hand.

Su Yunzhe clearly had no intention of letting Shen Yan retract his hand, firmly holding onto his wrist.

As the alcohol was applied to the wound, Shen Yan couldn’t help but grit his teeth in pain.

Su Yunzhe glanced up at him, the corners of his mouth barely curling up, then took out a piece of medical gauze to clean Shen Yan’s fingertip, followed by a Band-Aid, meticulously covering the wound. Once finished, he examined it carefully. Shen Yan’s porcelain-soft, delicate hands looked exquisite, making the Band-Aid on his fingertip stand out even more.

Su Yunzhe frowned, feeling an urge to rip off the Band-Aid and redo it, but he ultimately suppressed that impulse and released Shen Yan’s hand, casually asking, “So afraid of pain, yet you wanted to fight earlier?”

Having felt the pain just now and seeing that Su Yunzhe had bandaged the wound quite well, Shen Yan didn’t harbor as much resentment anymore. He replied, “She was the one who attacked first; she almost pulled my scalp off. Shouldn’t I fight back? If you guys hadn’t come, I would have pulled her hair out.”

Although Shen Yan usually adhered to the principle of not hitting women, in that situation, it wouldn’t have been appropriate for him not to retaliate against Wang Li, after all, he was a girl—an easily provoked one at that. How could he let a crazy woman bully him without striking back?

Su Yunzhe chuckled softly, choosing not to respond further, and drove away from Beishan Hospital.

Shen Yan didn’t bring it up again, as he also didn’t want to elaborate on the matter with Su Yunzhe. If he talked too much, the other might impatiently dismiss him with a “not interested.”

He didn’t ask where they were headed; after all, the benefactor was the one paying his salary, so it was up to Su Yunzhe to decide.

Having woken up early that morning, he was now in the perfect position to catch up on sleep. However, his mind was filled with various thoughts, making it impossible for him to feel sleepy.

It seemed that Duan Yang really didn’t doubt his identity anymore. Although he didn’t know the reason, it was a gratifying outcome.

There was another thing he found puzzling.

When Duan Yang married the original owner, he had clearly been pressured by Duan Songtao. Now that Shen Yan had run away, wasn’t he in a position to confront Duan Songtao, saying, “Grandpa, look, it’s not that I didn’t listen to you; it’s Shen Yan who didn’t want to, so you can’t blame me.”

Wouldn’t a movie star like Duan Yang be able to easily come up with such an excuse?

Why, now that Shen Yan had left, was he not only refraining from confronting Duan Songtao but also finding someone to impersonate the original owner, maintaining the facade of a harmonious married life in front of him?

Not to mention being concerned about upsetting Duan Songtao, Shen Yan didn’t believe that.

No matter how fond Duan Songtao was of the original owner, she was still an outsider. What kind of influence could she have over him?

Moreover, the original story stated that Duan Songtao was determined to marry Duan Yang to the original owner not only because he liked her but mainly because he disliked Shen Jiaqi. He didn’t want his grandson to be with Shen Jiaqi, so he took charge of the marriage.

In other words, even without the original owner, Duan Songtao might have arranged for Duan Yang to be with someone else. In summary, Shen Yan didn’t think the original owner’s presence or absence would significantly impact Duan Songtao’s heart condition.

Thus, it shouldn’t be the reason why Duan Yang was too afraid to speak the truth and had to force someone to act.

Not just Duan Yang; Shen Jiaqi’s attitude was also strange.

In the original story, Shen Jiaqi was so fond of Duan Yang that after the original owner married him, he had done so much behind the scenes to try to get Duan Yang to divorce her and be with him instead.

Now that this thorn in his side had run away and wasn’t planning to come back, wouldn’t that be exactly what he wanted?

But today, Shen Jiaqi seemed to be quite eager for his thorny older brother to return.

He really couldn’t make sense of these people.

His mind was in a jumble, and as Su Yunzhe’s car entered a manor, Shen Yan followed him out.

Immediately, he heard a half-serious complaint. “Damn, does President Su think we teachers are invisible? You said ten o’clock; look at what time it is!”

Following the voice, Shen Yan saw a young man approaching them. The man appeared to be about the same age as Su Yunzhe, very handsome, and exuded a casual charm, a stark contrast to Su Yunzhe’s aloof demeanor.

A teacher?

That didn’t seem to fit the profession at all.

Seeing Shen Yan, Qin Mofeng promptly forgot about having been left hanging by Su Yunzhe for several hours and extended his hand toward Shen Yan. “I’m Qin Mofeng, an excellent teacher. This must be Miss Shen Yan.”
