Chapter 9

Fan Xing’s nose wrinkled slightly, a subconscious gesture he made whenever he felt a bit frustrated with himself, which he was unaware of.

Seeing this, He Qingmo reached out and lightly tapped the tip of his nose. He spoke casually with a slightly teasing tone, “Angry?”

Fan Xing shook his head, saying, “I just feel a bit foolish lately.”

Perhaps it was because he was with He Qingmo or because he was nervous, but his reactions were always a bit slow.

“Only lately?” the man asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Of course!” Fan Xing replied, showing a rare moment of defiance. His bright eyes seemed even clearer because of it. “I’m usually quite smart.”

“Oh?” The man seemed genuinely interested. “How so?”

“I…” Fan Xing started to explain but quickly swallowed his words when he noticed the teasing look in the man’s eyes. He realized that the man was playing with him again.

Hmph, he wouldn’t fall for it!

“Let’s eat, let’s eat. I’m hungry too!” Fan Xing pushed the man toward the kitchen.

Although He Qingmo found teasing Fan Xing amusing, he was indeed hungry, so he decided to eat first.

Fan Xing had prepared a light lunch, which seemed to suit He Qingmo’s taste. Fan Xing noticed that He Qingmo ate quite a lot.

After lunch, He Qingmo had some matters to attend to, so he went upstairs to his study.

Fan Xing cleaned up the kitchen and even wiped away the footprints Ji Jin had left behind. When he reached the second floor, he saw He Qingmo coming out of his study with his phone in hand. He had a furrowed brow as he approached Fan Xing and pulled him up from the floor.

“You don’t need to do these things; we have a cleaning service,” He Qingmo said, as he dialed his assistant’s number. “Arrange for a new cleaning service worker to come this afternoon.”

After hanging up the phone, he explained to Fan Xing, “I don’t like having strangers in the house, so I don’t hire full-time help. However, we have a cleaning service worker who comes daily, and I can also cook if needed. The previous cleaning service worker resigned a few days ago, and I’ve been postponing finding a replacement because I haven’t been too busy.”

Fan Xing replied, “If you don’t have time, you don’t need to cook.”

He Qingmo gently pinched Fan Xing’s hand and seemed to be in a good mood. “That’s good to hear. I have some matters to attend to outside; I’ll come back later to pick you up.”

Fan Xing stood there and watched as the door closed behind He Qingmo. He was lost in thought for a moment and then absentmindedly touched his flushed cheeks. He found himself acting strangely, as He Qingmo hadn’t really done anything to warrant such a reaction.

He shook his head lightly, trying not to overthink things, and went upstairs to bring down his notebook. He settled on the sofa and checked his email.

Two days ago, on his way to the civil affairs bureau, he had decided to stay in the country and promptly applied to Clear University, a well-known university in City B.

Although he was confident in his academic abilities, he had applied in haste and wasn’t sure if he would be accepted.

So, over the past two days, he had been constantly checking his email, even though he knew the results wouldn’t be available so soon.

As expected, there was still no response.

He closed his email and clicked on the video-sharing website he had registered on yesterday. To his surprise, he had gained a few more followers.

He hadn’t expected much from his first video, so he was pleased to see that people were watching it.

One of his followers had left a comment: “Little brother, your hands are so good-looking! I’m a hand enthusiast, so I’m following you for your hands. By the way, I have a suggestion. Your tutorials are great, easy to follow, but the written instructions are a bit complicated. Just briefly mention the materials and quantities needed. Of course, if the handsome little brother with such nice hands could use a microphone, it would be even better! I think someone with such good-looking hands must have a pleasant voice! Looking forward to it! P.S. Little brother might not have noticed, but there are some typos in some places. Blushing.”

Fan Xing found this follower quite cute and appreciated the feedback, so he replied, thanking the follower.

He had actually considered implementing the follower’s suggestions, so he decided to work on it later. However, when he thought about the typos in his written instructions, he lost his motivation. Instead, he retrieved the note He Qingmo had left a message on yesterday, along with a pen, and began practicing his handwriting.

The note had only six characters, but for Fan Xing, it was enough. He copied and practiced repeatedly on several sheets of A4 paper until he achieved some improvement.

Looking at the slightly improved characters, Fan Xing couldn’t help but reveal a sweet smile. Suddenly, the A4 paper was snatched from his hand from behind, and He Qingmo’s voice came over, “Are you trying to learn it secretly?”
