Chapter 9

After just giving a slight warning, Lin Yushu already began to regret his actions. There was no way he would introduce a lawyer to Song Qiming.

It seemed that he didn’t understand Song Qiming well enough.

He had only provided a small piece of information without giving Song Qiming any time to digest it. But Song Qiming immediately realized that Lin Yushu still had value, so he took the initiative and caught him, not letting him escape.

It was like a wolf smelling meat and coming closer.

“That’s your business,” even though confined in a small space, Lin Yushu remained calm and composed. He only tilted his head slightly, distancing himself from Song Qiming’s breath. “Let go of me.”

Song Qiming didn’t move and looked at Lin Yushu, asking, “Does Shao Guangjie know that you came here specifically to find me?”

“Huh?” Upon hearing this, Lin Yushu almost burst out laughing.

What did he mean by “specifically came here to find him”? Did this person have some misunderstanding about him?

Avoiding the subject altogether, Lin Yushu didn’t want Shao Guangjie to know about this matter, but Song Qiming had to bring him up.

“You better get it straight,” Lin Yushu stared at Song Qiming, poking his chest with his index finger rather rudely. “I came to the racetrack today because I wanted to, and it has nothing to do with you.”

With an angry glare in his attractive peach blossom eyes, Lin Yushu appeared somewhat fierce, but not intimidating. Instead, he exuded a touch of liveliness.

“What a coincidence?” Song Qiming clearly didn’t believe Lin Yushu’s explanation and raised an eyebrow slightly, questioning.

“Just a coincidence,” Lin Yushu withdrew his index finger, crossed his arms in front of his chest, and said, “And it was also a coincidence in Singapore. Stop thinking that I intentionally approached you.”

Song Qiming lowered his head and smiled lightly, then took a slight step back and asked, “Are those people your friends?”

He was referring to the gentlemen playing with cars on the racetrack.

In truth, most of them couldn’t be considered friends, just acquaintances. But Lin Yushu was too lazy to explain so much and countered, “What’s the matter?”

“Don’t introduce them to me?” Song Qiming said naturally, as if he had already integrated into Lin Yushu’s circle, as if it was only natural for Lin Yushu to introduce friends to him.

Lin Yushu realized that these bosses from the Sha family really loved giving him tasks.

“You can go and introduce yourself,” Lin Yushu said. “They would be delighted to meet you.”

Just as he finished speaking, the sound of engines gradually approached from the racetrack. Lin Yushu keenly noticed that it was Lu Zibo driving the car, so he quickly moved aside, creating distance between him and Song Qiming.

After Lu Zibo parked the car, he walked over to the two of them and asked curiously, “Do you guys know each other?”

Song Qiming: “We do.”

Lin Yushu: “I don’t know him.”

As soon as the words came out, Lin Yushu realized that something was off.

He simply didn’t want others to know that he had private contact with Song Qiming, which was why he blurted out “I don’t know him.” But among the car modification enthusiasts, who didn’t know Song Qiming?

“We’ve met a few times for work,” Lin Yushu quickly corrected himself.

“That counts as knowing each other,” Lu Zibo walked up to Lin Yushu’s side, casually putting his arm around Lin Yushu’s shoulder. “You know the big shot, and you didn’t tell me?”

Lin Yushu and Lu Zibo had been friends for many years and often worked on car modifications together.

Normally, friends walking arm in arm wasn’t a big deal, but Lin Yushu suddenly noticed Song Qiming’s gaze on the arm resting on his shoulder, and his expression seemed a bit subtle.

“Hello, big shot. I’ve heard so much about you. My name is Lu Zibo,” not being from the business circle, Lu Zibo’s self-introduction was somewhat casual. He raised his chin, pointing towards the direction of the racetrack, and added, “This is my family’s racetrack.”

“Hello,” Song Qiming took out his phone from his pocket. “Can we exchange WeChat?”

“Sure!” Lu Zibo obviously didn’t expect Song Qiming to be so easygoing and eagerly took out his phone. “Shall I scan yours?”

Watching Song Qiming skillfully bring up the QR code, Lin Yushu couldn’t help but mutter in his mind that this German guy was pretty adept at using WeChat.

“Big shot, can I ask you for advice on car modifications in the future?”

“Of course.”

The two quickly added each other on WeChat. At that moment, Song Qiming said again, “Give me his WeChat too.”

The “him” he referred to naturally meant Lin Yushu.

Lin Yushu couldn’t refuse, but now he had to create a separate group for Song Qiming because Song Qiming and Shao Guangjie were definitely WeChat friends. If Shao Guangjie saw Song Qiming liking his moments, Lin Yushu, the “traitor,” would be exposed.

A message notification quickly popped up on WeChat. Lin Yushu opened the friend request list and saw Song Qiming right at the top.

His profile picture was of his pet, Wolfgang, a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog that looked similar to a wolf.

After adding the nickname “Song Qiming,” Lin Yushu hesitated for a moment, created a new group called “Be Careful,” and threw Song Qiming into it.

“Big shot, how much horsepower does your GTR have?”

“750 horsepower.”

“What’s the 0-100 acceleration?”

“2.6 seconds.”

“That’s so impressive!”

The two talked about topics that interested Lin Yushu, but he couldn’t join the conversation because he didn’t want people to think he was close to Song Qiming.

He listened attentively to their conversation, trying to appear more natural, and took a sip of water from his bottle.

Not sure if he had unread messages or not, although Song Qiming maintained the pace of the conversation, he kept looking at his phone, appearing somewhat absent-minded.

At that moment, Lin Yushu’s phone suddenly vibrated. Adjusting his posture with the water bottle in hand, he opened WeChat and saw an unread message.

【Song Qiming: Does Shao Guangjie know that you’re being so careless behind his back?】

“Pff—”

The water in his mouth sprayed out, startling Lu Zibo. “What’s wrong with you?”

“It’s nothing.” Lin Yushu glared at Song Qiming accusingly and wiped the water stains from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand.

No wonder Song Qiming’s gaze towards him and Lu Zibo was so subtle earlier. Apparently, he thought that Lin Yushu was having some secret affair behind Shao Guangjie’s back.

【Lin Yushu: I am not Shao Guangjie’s lover.】

His fingers swiftly typed out the message and sent it.

Lu Zibo beside him no longer paid attention to Lin Yushu and continued to ask Song Qiming, “Does your engine have an expanded cylinder?”

Song Qiming still looked at his phone, a smile playing on his lips. “No.”

Lin Yushu’s phone received another message notification.

【Song Qiming: Does he know that you asked me to change lawyers behind his back?】

【Lin Yushu: Are you done yet?】

Naturally, Lu Zibo had no idea that the two people in front of him were chatting on WeChat. He asked again, “Then why is the acceleration so fast?”

Distracted, Song Qiming replied, “High torque.”

【Song Qiming: What will happen if he finds out?】

Lin Yushu looked at the phone screen and suddenly felt something was off. Was Song Qiming teasing him?

【Lin Yushu: Do you have nothing better to do?】

This time, Song Qiming chuckled lightly. It wasn’t until now that Lu Zibo finally realized that the big shot had something to attend to. He stopped asking questions and tentatively invited, “We’re going to a bar later. Will you come?”

“Sure.” Song Qiming finally put away his phone and looked at Lin Yushu, asking, “Are you coming too?”

“I’m not going.” Lin Yushu opened the car door with a faint expression. “I have work tomorrow.”

“He’s not going, which is normal,” Lu Zibo interjected. “His bosses are not easy to handle.”

Sitting in the driver’s seat, Lin Yushu furrowed his brows and reminded Lu Zibo, “Hey.”

“Oh, right,” Lu Zibo seemed to have just remembered Song Qiming’s identity. “You’re one of his bosses too.”

Approaching the National Day holiday, many employees were somewhat absent-minded. Almost everyone’s browser had travel guides hidden in them, planning for the holiday. But Lin Yushu was an exception. He travelled too frequently for work, so for the National Day holiday, he planned to stay at home.

The follow-up negotiations for the acquisition had yet to be finalized, and there wasn’t much Lin Yushu could do. The divorce proceedings of Shao Hexu and Fang Lan were progressing smoothly, and he just needed to keep an eye on them.

On this Friday, Lin Yushu had finished arranging all his work and entered the National Day holiday in a rare state of relaxation.

Being accustomed to waking up early on weekdays, he continued the routine during the holiday.

After having breakfast, Lin Yushu laid out a yoga mat in the living room, lit an incense stick, and began his meditation.

Meditation was helpful for clearing the mind and was a suitable way to start the holiday. However, no matter how hard Lin Yushu tried, he couldn’t calm his mind because it involuntarily started pondering when he would be promoted.

Deep down, Lin Yushu knew that being so fixated on success wasn’t a good thing.

Perhaps one day, when he achieved great success, he would look back and realize that all of this didn’t hold much meaning compared to enjoying life.

But at least at this stage, nothing was more important to Lin Yushu than being promoted to the CEO position.

“Woof woof!”

The two energetic barks of a dog interrupted Lin Yushu’s meditation.

He abruptly snapped back to reality, realizing how close he had come to getting lost in thought. Most people’s meditation would become more peaceful over time, but for him, his thoughts only became more persistent.

Right, the dog barking.

The neighbor next door must be home.

Lin Yushu got up and went to the entrance, picking up a bottle of white wine that had been sitting on the shoe cabinet, and opened the door.

Sure enough, there was a large dog in the hallway, with gray fur, erect ears, and alert eyes, looking quite majestic.

As soon as it saw Lin Yushu, it stopped in its tracks and stared at this unfamiliar person, its face clearly saying, “Strangers not allowed.”

But for Lin Yushu, it wasn’t a stranger.

Almost instinctively, without thinking, Lin Yushu looked at the big dog in surprise and said, “Wowo?”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Lin Yushu regretted it.

Because behind Wolfgang was none other than its owner, Song Qiming.

Song Qiming had just come out of the elevator, still holding a dog waste bag, indicating that he had just finished walking the dog. He glanced at the door number behind Lin Yushu, a hint of surprise flickering in his eyes, but it quickly turned into amusement. “How do you even know my dog’s nickname?”

Wearing casual home clothes and holding a bottle of white wine, Lin Yushu said, “…”

Can time reverse itself, please? Just three seconds would be enough.
