Chapter 11

Luo Ran thought to himself that, given how arrogant and proud this young lady was, it was no wonder that maintaining a political marriage with Lucas for so long had been no easy feat.

Luo Ran paused before saying, “I simply hope that you will delete the post and stop publishing defamatory articles like this.”

“Ha!” Nina sneered. “What gives you the right to order me around, Secretary?”

“Because I am General Lucas’s secretary, and because I can make this matter very difficult to resolve.” Luo Ran leaned back slightly and said, “If Miss is unwilling to sit down and discuss this with me properly, things will become very troublesome once this matter is formally pursued. This is only a minor disagreement. There is no need to involve the Duke’s household or the general’s side.”

“You…!” Nina sneered and beckoned to the two bodyguards behind her. “Throw him out!”

Luo Ran frowned slightly.

“Secretary Luo.” The two bodyguards walked up to him and bowed slightly. “Please.”

“I haven’t finished speaking with Miss Nina yet.” Luo Ran shook his head helplessly.

Seeing this, one of the bodyguards frowned slightly and reached out, intending to use force.

Bang!

What happened next left both bodyguards stunned.

Nina was stunned too.

They saw Luo Ran move his hand, and the bodyguard who had been about to touch him was… knocked to the ground.

Luo Ran had moved so quickly that no one had even seen how he made his move. All they could see was the bodyguard clutching his hand in pain as he collapsed to the floor.

Luo Ran said apologetically, “Sorry. I’ve already controlled my strength. I won’t have broken any bones.”

Meanwhile, Luo Ran remained seated properly on the sofa, without even getting up.

The other bodyguard widened his eyes, refusing to believe what he had seen, and lunged at Luo Ran. But Luo Ran simply leaned aside to dodge. Still sitting down, he hooked his leg and precisely swept it toward the opening in the bodyguard’s lower stance.

The bodyguard lost his balance, and Luo Ran took the opportunity to strike and knock him to the ground.

Just like that, he effortlessly dealt with two Alpha bodyguards who were twice his size.

Luo Ran had been personally trained by Lucas. Aside from Lucas himself, there really weren’t many people who could hurt Luo Ran.

Nina stared blankly at him.

Not a single strand of Luo Ran’s hair was out of place. He lowered his eyes and said, “Miss Nina, I ask that you please communicate with me properly.”

Nina had been in the wrong by resorting to force without warning. Now that Luo Ran was being equally firm, she had no choice but to hear him out, one way or another.

However…

Nina thought to herself, This… is actually pretty handsome?

“Miss?”

Nina paused, then sat up straight and snorted. “Say whatever you want to say!”

Luo Ran had already delivered his warning, so he smiled and said, “Although the general has a terrible temper, lacks romantic sensibilities, and loves looking down on people…”

Nina nearly nodded before she could stop herself.

Luo Ran continued, “He is, after all, a general who is accustomed to fighting and killing. He has grown accustomed to the atmosphere of the battlefield.”

“So what!” Nina pouted. “Does that mean he can treat a dignified duke’s legitimate daughter like a dog?”

“He didn’t. He just…” Luo Ran paused before asking, “Miss, what were you doing when you were thirteen?”

Nina paused and frowned. “Going to school, of course. What else? I was young then and didn’t understand much. I don’t really remember.”

“Exactly. I was going to school at thirteen too, arguing with my deskmate and getting caught up in petty schemes.” Luo Ran smiled. “I was rather ugly as a child, and my abilities weren’t very good either, so I was often bullied. Back then, I felt absolutely miserable. I thought the world was nothing more than that little bit I could see.”

Nina was stunned, looking somewhat incredulous.

No way.

Luo Ran seemed so outstanding.

“It’s true. But enough about me…” Luo Ran smiled. “Let’s talk about that general with the terrible personality. He was already on the battlefield at thirteen, facing life and death.”

Nina’s entire body stiffened.

“Perhaps Miss Nina thinks that the story about eating human flesh was something you simply made up. But under extremely desperate circumstances, people might really have to resort to it, of course, only after all the wild animals, insects, and dry grass have been eaten.” Luo Ran spoke slowly. “The empire wasn’t as peaceful back then as it is now. There were space pirates, neighboring countries… dangers everywhere. From the age of thirteen, he went on military campaigns with his uncle, fighting across the eastern and western frontiers. Every day, he lived in an environment where he could lose his life at any moment. Every day, he had to face the parting of comrades-in-arms. And in the end, as you know, the general’s uncle—that former general—died too.”

“So the general is different from us. He understands things that we don’t, but there are also many things we understand that he doesn’t.”

Nina lowered her head and said nothing.

“That is why I don’t want anyone using this to attack him.” Luo Ran smiled faintly. “I’m a Beta, and you’re an Omega. We can’t go to the battlefield. It’s people like the general who stand in the most dangerous places to protect us. How could he possibly hate Omegas? They are the very people he protects.”

Nina turned her head away without saying anything.

After a long silence, Nina finally said, “I’ll delete it later.”

“Thank you.” Luo Ran smiled. “Although, to be fair, he really does lack romantic sensibilities.”

“Isn’t that the truth?” Nina complained bitterly. “After I finally got him to go on a date with me because General’s Wife pressured him into it, he actually fell asleep!”

“…Ah.”

“Do you know that he doesn’t even remember what I look like? I went to see him before, and he actually asked me, ‘Who are you?’”

“…” Luo Ran said helplessly, “I understand… He can’t even remember what he ate yesterday.”

Who could have imagined that Nina and Luo Ran would end up chatting for the entire afternoon like this?

They almost became sisters.

Of course, Omega friendships always began with one thing—badmouthing someone.

And these two had both accumulated plenty of grievances against the same person.

In the end, Nina even wanted Luo Ran to stay for dinner, but Luo Ran naturally declined. It wouldn’t look good if word of this got out.

Before boarding the aircraft, Luo Ran stood by the door and apologized once more. “Sorry. I’ll send you some delicious desserts next time.”

“Sounds good.” Nina smiled brightly.

She watched Luo Ran turn and walk away. His figure was tall and slender, and the evening breeze gently lifted his silver hair. Perhaps he thought plain silver was too monotonous, because the tips and ends of his hair were dyed a touch of lake blue, making him look even more attractive.

Nina grinned foolishly at her maid and said, “Oh my, oh my! Was General Lucas’s secretary always this handsome?”
