Everyone rested on top of the wall for about five minutes before something finally appeared in the distance.
Another group!
“What are those? Wolves or dogs?” someone shouted. From the general silhouettes of the creatures sprinting toward them, it was already possible to tell what species they were.
“Are they mutated beasts again?”
Seeing their enormous bodies, someone couldn’t help feeling afraid. His voice carried a slight tremor.
At that moment, Xiaoyu and Xiaoning also leaned forward, lowering their upper bodies as they stared down. They let out continuous “awoo, awoo” sounds.
This time, their cries were completely different from their excitement earlier. Now they were filled with vigilance and warning.
“What do we do? Do we keep fighting?” Ouyang Jing asked Chu Tian and Xiao Ziran. He was also filled with uncertainty.
Chu Tian was still deep in thought when Xiao Ziran spoke first.
“Everyone get off the wall! We’re going back into the city and finding somewhere to defend! Hurry!”
He spoke so quickly and urgently that Chu Tian looked at him in surprise.
Xiao Ziran’s tone was heavy, and his expression turned slightly bitter.
“They’re not mutated beasts. They’re zombie dogs! There are probably more than a dozen. Normally, that wouldn’t be anything to fear, but what’s frightening is that I can see all kinds of colors on their bodies…”
The doctor’s new ability had not yet been made known to the entire team, so most of the people did not understand what he meant. They looked at him blankly.
But the core members immediately understood.
“They all have colors?” Chu Tian asked at once.
“Yes. All of them.” Xiao Ziran gave a helpless, bitter smile.
“Retreat! Back into the city! Now!”
Chu Tian immediately made the same decision as Xiao Ziran.
With the two leaders reaching the same conclusion, everyone else had no time to hesitate and immediately followed their orders.
There was no need for Xiao Ziran or Pei Qianxing to help them get down. Everyone simply followed the vines still clinging to the wall and slid down naturally.
Although Pei Qianxing was filled with questions, he followed everyone else and left as well.
As Chu Tian climbed down with Quan Xiaoyu, he grabbed him and quietly said, “In a moment, go stay with Xiao Nan and Xiao Bai. If things become too dangerous in the end, take them into your space and stay there for now. Don’t come back out.”
“What about you?”
Quan Xiaoyu panicked the moment he heard this. It was obvious from Chu Tian’s words that he did not intend to stay with them.
Chu Tian reached out and rubbed his head. He smiled with extraordinary gentleness as he said, “I can’t abandon everyone. Look at them. They trust me so much. They’ve entrusted their lives to me. How could I run away?”
“Then I’m not leaving either! I’m staying with you! I can’t leave you behind either!”
Quan Xiaoyu’s voice was firm and decisive. He absolutely would not abandon Chu Tian and escape by himself.
Chu Tian was the one who had given Quan Xiaoyu a new meaning to living. How could he possibly leave him behind?
“All right.”
Chu Tian was still just as gentle as before. He smiled at him and said, “I won’t stop you from staying with me. But what about Xiao Bai and Xiao Nan?”
“I…”
Quan Xiaoyu froze.
Right.
What would happen to them?
Chu Tian did not wait for him to answer before continuing.
“Even if you hide them inside your space, what happens to them if you die? Aren’t you going to think about Xiao Nan?”
There was no solution to this choice.
Quan Xiaoyu had never imagined that one day he would be faced with such a decision.
He could disregard his own life. After all, he had gained this life almost for free.
But he cared about Chu Tian.
He cared about Li Nan.
And because Chu Tian cared about Bai Mingxi, Quan Xiaoyu had come to care about Bai Mingxi as well.
He also cared about all the teammates who had fought alongside him through life and death.
But what could he do?
“Can’t we… take everyone together—”
Quan Xiaoyu was desperately grasping at any possible solution, but Chu Tian interrupted him without mercy.
“No! Absolutely not! We cannot let any more people know about the space!”
His voice dropped to the lowest possible volume, but his tone was firm and carried a trace of anger.
“You can’t guarantee that no one will betray us! You can’t guarantee that no one will leak the secret, whether intentionally or unintentionally! You can’t even guarantee that no one will covet it! Remember what I’m telling you! The secret of the space must remain limited to the four of us!”
“If this secret gets out, even if we survive this time, we’ll never have peace afterward!”
“Xiaoyu! Remember what I’m telling you!”
Chu Tian held Quan Xiaoyu’s head and pressed his lips close to his ear as he spoke those final words.
By then, everyone had already climbed down and begun retreating into the city.
But before they could all make it back to the cars, a tremendous BOOM came from the direction of the wall.
Something had slammed into it with enormous force. After that single impact, dust began raining down from the top of the wall.
“Prepare for battle!”
Xiao Ziran shouted and stopped running.
If they continued fleeing at this point and were overtaken, they would be unable to organize an effective defense.
The moment the doctor’s voice fell, Chu Tian unleashed a mental attack toward the other side of the wall.
But his mental power encountered tremendous resistance.
That stubborn mental barrier was still there.
“What colors are they?” Chu Tian shouted at the doctor.
“There are three the same color as you! The rest have all kinds of colors,” Xiao Ziran answered.
Chu Tian immediately understood.
Three zombie dogs with mental abilities.
No wonder the mental barrier was so powerful!
“You command everyone! Focus all attacks on the three that are the same color as me! Kill them, and then I can deal with the others,” Chu Tian said to Xiao Ziran.
Xiao Ziran nodded.
At the exact moment the city wall came crashing down, he quickly pulled up a wall of plants.
Pei Qianxing stepped forward to help as well, and the two of them worked together to stabilize the defensive wall of vegetation.
“Concentrate your attacks on the three on the far right!” Xiao Ziran shouted.
In an instant, bolts of lightning, ice swords, wind blades, spikes, and fireballs all converged on the right side of the pack.
The zombie dogs were obviously not going to stand there and take the hits.
They quickly moved the three targeted dogs behind them, shielding them from the attacks.
Soon, lightning, ice swords, wind blades, spikes, and fireballs of the same types came crashing down on the defensive wall Xiao Ziran had raised.
Some attacks even pierced through the defensive wall and came hurtling toward the people.
“Dodge!” Chu Tian shouted.
Everyone hurriedly dodged, but some people were still struck.
At the same time, artillery fire erupted from the southern part of the city. Even from here, they could vaguely see flashes of fire.
But at this point, no one had the attention to worry about what was happening elsewhere.
The battle became locked in a stalemate.
The defensive network Xiao Ziran had constructed was being torn apart bit by bit, and the speed at which he could repair it was nowhere near enough to keep up with the rate at which it was being destroyed.
At that moment, the roar of engines sounded behind them.
Cai Yuanhan had brought more than a hundred ability users to flee toward the northern part of the city, only to discover that a battle was already raging here.
He immediately ordered the cars to stop.
And then, unexpectedly, he began observing the battle.
Chu Tian had sharp eyes. Even from more than a hundred meters away, he recognized Cai Yuanhan through the car window.
Chu Tian had Quan Xiaoyu take him over there with his speed enhancement. In the blink of an eye, they were standing in front of Cai Yuanhan.
They had dealt with each other before, and Chu Tian had already figured out Cai Yuanhan’s temperament.
He knew there was no point beating around the bush with this man, because Cai Yuanhan was even better at going in circles than he was.
Pleasantries would only waste time.
“Commander Cai, there are zombie dogs ahead. The frightening thing is that every single one of them has an ability, and three of them are mental-type! I can’t deal with them either. If we all die, it won’t do you any good! That’s all I have to say!”
Quan Xiaoyu brought Chu Tian rushing over, and he said only those few words before immediately having Quan Xiaoyu take him back to his own battlefield.
He knew perfectly well that he absolutely could not get entangled with Cai Yuanhan here.
As a businessman by nature, Cai Yuanhan would inevitably try to take advantage of the situation and negotiate terms with him.
They simply did not have time to waste.
It was better to leave Cai Yuanhan with one sentence and let him weigh the pros and cons himself than to get bogged down in negotiations.
Cai Yuanhan had not even had time to put on his usual airs before Chu Tian dropped those words and left again.
For a long while, he simply stood there, unable to react.
Just as Chu Tian had expected, he spent a full ten minutes thinking it over.
It was not until Xiao Ziran’s defensive network completely collapsed and two zombie dogs had almost reached the people that Cai Yuanhan was finally shaken by the creatures’ enormous size.
“Pass down the order. Everyone out of the vehicles and into battle! We must eliminate the zombie dogs!”
Cai Yuanhan finally issued the order.
Up ahead, Chu Tian’s team had already worked together to kill the two zombie dogs at the front.
Only then did Cai Yuanhan’s people arrive.
The addition of more than a hundred ability users instantly turned the situation around.
The three mental-type zombies were finally killed.
At last, Chu Tian could make full use of his ability!
He controlled one of the zombie dogs to fight for their side while simultaneously using mental attacks to support the zombie dog under his control.
The more than a dozen enormous zombie dogs were finally killed through the combined efforts of over a hundred ability users.
The more than a hundred ability users Cai Yuanhan had brought began cheering.
This was also the first time they had concentrated the combat power of more than a hundred people in a single battle, and it gave them an inexplicable sense of accomplishment.
Meanwhile, Chu Tian’s team members were exhausted. They immediately sat down on the ground and hurried to rest and recover their strength.
Two consecutive battles had been anything but easy.
Lu Zhongxia and Li Nan also quickly emerged from their hiding place behind the others and began treating the injured team members.
Fortunately, Cai Yuanhan and his people had arrived in time. Although some people had suffered serious injuries, no one had died.
That was at least a blessing in disguise.
Bai Mingxi also began distributing food and water to everyone.
The water was some of the space water that Quan Xiaoyu and Bai Mingxi had secretly filled containers with whenever they had found an opportunity earlier. It was finally coming in handy now.
Cai Yuanhan had always carried himself with an air of arrogance.
Seeing that the crisis had been resolved, and that the battle had become much easier after his people joined in, his previous thoughts of negotiating terms resurfaced.
