“Boss, the target has been stopped.” The voice of the newly hired bodyguard came through the earpiece. Bo Rui glanced in the rearview mirror, saw that the car was indeed gone, and calmly issued another command.
“Bring them in and deal with it properly—find out their intentions.”
“Yes, sir.” The composed bodyguard acknowledged the order and sprang into action. This was their first mission on the job, and they couldn’t afford to leave a bad impression in front of the boss.
Bo Rui removed his earpiece and turned to look at Yu Junqing, who was clearly worried.
“It’s fine now.”
Yu Junqing nodded. He had been watching closely and, of course, had seen the car being intercepted—four sleek vehicles cutting it off at the same time. Outside of movies, he had never witnessed such a scene in real life.
“Who were they?” Yu Junqing felt a shiver of unease. He couldn’t explain why, only that he had the sense someone had been keeping an eye on him. And indeed, someone had been following him.
“Hard to say. We’ll know after we question them,” Bo Rui replied, not wanting him to worry too much, and then shifted the topic.
“Your back… does it still hurt?” His eyes instinctively flicked to Yu Junqing’s lower back, and Yu Junqing, who was a little shy, immediately blushed.
How could he even ask that now? Yu Junqing rubbed his lower back. No pain—but some areas felt… off.
Seeing him subtly shift, Bo Rui raised an eyebrow but didn’t call him out. Instead, he gently placed his hand on Yu Junqing’s back, letting him massage it.
After the earlier incident, their playful mood had largely vanished. After a sweet and light meal, Yu Junqing decided to head back to the office. He guessed Bo Rui would want to investigate the matter further, and he didn’t want to disturb him. Besides, staying home alone was too boring; he might as well “squeeze out” some of Xiao Yitong’s personal value at the office. That sounded about right.
Bo Rui left a few bodyguards to accompany Yu Junqing, then quickly departed. Yu Junqing glanced at the black-clad men surrounding him, waved, and they swiftly got into the car, heading straight for the company.
Xiao Yitong had been tidying up some miscellaneous tasks when Yu Junqing suddenly called to say he was coming over. Puzzled, he went down to meet him. Wasn’t Yu Junqing supposed to be resting today? Why was he still showing up?
When he reached the lobby, he was stunned. A group of bodyguards flanked Yu Junqing as he walked over. Each seemed to radiate a deadly aura, and Xiao Yitong swallowed nervously.
Yu Junqing, in the center, saw him, smiled, and took off his glasses. “I’m visiting the office today—just want to see how you work. Hope you don’t mind?”
Xiao Yitong… if he had said he minded, would Yu Junqing have changed his mind?
Seeing Yu Junqing’s playful, unstoppable smile, Xiao Yitong sighed. “Fine, do as you like. But… do they have to follow you around all the time? Couldn’t it…”
Yu Junqing understood what he was leaving unsaid. He signaled the head bodyguard, who nodded to the others. Soon, the extra bodyguards left, leaving only a gentle-looking one at Yu Junqing’s side.
Xiao Yitong breathed a sigh of relief. Much better—this one seemed harmless, even refreshing. Bringing so many bodyguards into the office would have drawn unwanted attention.
“Yu-ge, shall we go?” Xiao Yitong glanced at his phone. He’d been down there a while, and a lot of paperwork awaited him—some rather tedious.
“Mm.” Yu Junqing took the lead, walking slowly, at a pace like an elderly man on a stroll. Xiao Yitong didn’t notice anything odd; he assumed Yu Junqing was taking it easy because of the day off.
Xiao Yitong had plenty of work. With the movie’s popularity soaring, directors kept sending scripts and offers. Part of his job involved reading all the scripts, deciding which suited Yu Junqing, effectively acting as both assistant and manager.
Yu Junqing, bored watching him pore over scripts, decided to take a stroll to the top floor with the bodyguard, thinking to sneak a peek while Bo Rui was away.
Once the idea popped into his head, he couldn’t suppress it. He rubbed his still-sore back. Being family, it should be fine, right? Just a quick look. So, Yu Junqing and the bodyguard made their way up.
But the plan hit a snag: without Bo Rui there, the security card at the entrance wasn’t being scanned, and Yu Junqing couldn’t get in.
Standing disappointed at the door, he sighed, staring at the locked office. Even sneaking a peek was impossible.
“Sir… Yu?” Huang Qian, standing behind him, exclaimed in surprise.
He had just thought he saw someone going upstairs—and he wasn’t mistaken! But why was Yu Junqing here? He assumed “madam” was up to something… his mind wandered far from the actual meaning.
Caught in the act, Yu Junqing didn’t feel embarrassed. He smiled at Huang Qian. “While he’s not here, let’s see if he has a hidden beauty in his mansion.”
“Eek!” Huang Qian’s expression perfectly entertained Yu Junqing. He gasped and cautiously stepped closer. “Madam… are you sure the boss has a hidden beauty?”
“Nope. Just came to check.” Yu Junqing grinned. Now he understood why Bo Rui liked teasing him sometimes—watching someone’s brain go offline was amusing.
Huang Qian, unaware he had become the target of Yu Junqing’s teasing, couldn’t help but grin. He had expected some earth-shattering gossip.
Satisfied that his mission at the office was accomplished, Yu Junqing’s phone rang.
“Hello, this is Yu Junqing.”
“Hehe, I know who you are. Your assistant is in my hands. If you don’t want anything to happen to him, come alone to Yunhai Bridge.” A strange metallic voice quickly delivered the message before hanging up.
Yu Junqing’s expression immediately turned puzzled. Xiao Yitong had only left two minutes ago. How could he be in the hands of this strange person?
Thinking quickly, Yu Junqing explained the situation to the gentle-looking bodyguard.
“May I see your phone?” The bodyguard’s previously warm expression vanished. Yu Junqing handed over the phone, and the bodyguard carefully examined it.
Yu Junqing and Huang Qian hurried downstairs, not entirely convinced, but wanting to check on Xiao Yitong.
At Xiao Yitong’s office, he was still buried in scripts, stacked like mountains. He wasn’t going anywhere soon.
That made the call suspicious. Perhaps the caller intended to extort someone else and got the wrong person? Yu Junqing was puzzled.
The gentle bodyguard completed his check. The call’s location was traced to Yunhai Bridge. It didn’t appear to involve anyone from their industry. Yu Junqing relaxed somewhat but remained cautious.
“Sir Yu, we’ve tracked his location and are sending people immediately. Just wait here for updates.”
“Thank you. What’s going on today?” Yu Junqing nodded, still a little bewildered. Everything seemed like a movie scene.
Thanks to Bo Rui’s bodyguards, both situations were quickly resolved.
“You mean… they were my obsessive haters? One tried to kidnap me to post something bad on social media, the other wanted to throw acid at me?” Yu Junqing had just returned home with Bo Rui’s team when he heard the results.
“Mm.” Bo Rui rubbed his temples. He couldn’t believe it—just two clueless people trying such things, causing him unnecessary worry.
Yu Junqing’s expression betrayed a bit of disbelief. He knew fans were imaginative, but obsessive haters were in short supply too? If he retired, would selling tofu pudding be a better career?
“What are you thinking?” Bo Rui asked, noticing Yu Junqing’s dazed gaze, ruffling his hair.
Yu Junqing blurted it out instinctively.
“Pfft!” The gentle bodyguard couldn’t help laughing. Yu Junqing blushed instantly. Bo Rui ruffled his hair but said nothing. Honestly, if not for worrying about his “precious little one,” he would have laughed out loud too.
The phone rang again, breaking the strange tension. Yu Junqing quickly answered, ears slightly red.
After hanging up, he stared blankly at Bo Rui. Before Bo Rui could ask what was wrong, Yu Junqing suddenly leapt onto him.
“Rui-ge! I can support you now! I’ve made so much money!”
Caught off guard, Bo Rui fell onto the sofa, stunned. Yu Junqing giggled, pressing against his chest, overjoyed. He had just had Xiao Yitong calculate his recent total earnings—he’d made so much! Now he could support Bo Rui! Hehe… the “hidden rules” with the boss sounded exhilarating!
Bo Rui quickly had the bodyguard leave. It seemed his little one’s habit of blurting out heartfelt words when excited wasn’t going to change anytime soon.
