Chapter 17

This entry is part 18 of 72 in the series The Charming School Heartthrob

Lu Jingcheng was speechless. “Do you even eat it? The stuff I don’t eat—you don’t eat either, right?”

Bai Le: “…Fine, then I’ll take the ribs!”

Lu Jingcheng replied, “Just eat your dumplings.”

He pushed the bowl back to Ye Qingyang, said nothing more, and lowered his head to continue eating.

Looking at the noodles and vegetables in his bowl, Ye Qingyang felt like his youpo noodles had instantly leveled up.

They had evolved into a two-in-one combo: youpo noodles plus mixed noodles!

What an unexpected delight!

He glanced at Lu Jingcheng beside him, who was quietly eating with his head down. The more he looked at him, the more he felt that Lu Jingcheng was both handsome and kindhearted.

A good person!

Good people deserve a lifetime of peace!

If he could eat with Lu Jingcheng every day in the future, that would actually be pretty nice. Their eating habits matched well, after all.

He was not picky about food, while Lu Jingcheng was extremely picky. Ye Qingyang could simply eat the things Lu Jingcheng did not like—saving food in the process.

“Brother Lu, want to try some of my noodles?” Ye Qingyang said, returning the favor and continuing to promote them. “They’re really good.”

“No.” Lu Jingcheng did not believe him.

Ye Qingyang was about to persuade him again, but then remembered that Lu Jingcheng had a bit of a cleanliness obsession. Since he had already eaten from the bowl, Lu Jingcheng probably would not touch it.

Next time he would serve him some first before eating himself, Ye Qingyang decided.

Watching the two of them—one quietly eating, the other smiling warmly—Bai Le could only think that their relationship was developing ridiculously fast.

Just a few days ago, had Ye Qingyang not been practically begging to become friends?

Now they were already sitting together eating lunch!

Lu Jingcheng had even put food in his bowl!

Did gay guys really move this fast when pursuing someone?

Straight men everywhere were shocked!

Bai Le sighed. He wondered if his straight friend could hold the line. From his perspective, things looked dangerous.

After chatting and joking through the meal, Chen Wei and the others planned to go to an internet café.

Ye Qingyang did not want to go. He wanted to check the bookstores near the school to see if they had the Chinese workbook.

Lu Jingcheng said nothing at first. Only after they walked out of the school gate did he speak.

“I’ll check the bookstore too. My sister’s teacher gave them a reading list and asked them to buy the books. She told me to help her get them.”

Chen Wei and the others did not suspect anything. They said a couple of words to him and headed toward the internet café.

Ye Qingyang simply assumed he was buying books for his sister and did not ask further.

They checked the nearest bookstore first, but it did not have the Chinese workbook, so they walked farther down the street.

However, several bookstores later, none of them had it.

Ye Qingyang frowned slightly, thinking they probably would not find it.

Sure enough, after asking at the last bookstore, the owner said they did not have it either.

Left with no choice, Ye Qingyang checked the time and saw that class was about to start, so he prepared to head back.

“Did you find the books for your sister?” he asked. “What kind of books did their teacher tell them to read?”

Lu Jingcheng—who had invented those books out of thin air—fell silent.

“How did you know it was my sister?” Lu Jingcheng suddenly counterattacked. “I never told you that.”

Ye Qingyang: …Because I know the characters in the story.

Of course he could not say that, so he smiled and said, “I’ve been quietly paying attention to you for a long time. Of course I’d know something like that.”

Seeing him say such words without the slightest embarrassment, Lu Jingcheng felt that this guy really had no sense of shame at all!

Confessing whenever he found the chance—he was really bold and passionate!

How had he managed to hold it in before?

The change in style was way too drastic!

“So you’ve really been paying a lot of attention to me.”

Ye Qingyang smiled slightly. “Naturally.”

Lu Jingcheng: …

Just how deep was this obsession with him?

Naturally?

Did he really think it was natural for himself to like Lu Jingcheng?

That was a little too… certain.

Lu Jingcheng felt like every single day he discovered that Ye Qingyang liked him even more than he had originally thought.

When Chen Wei saw the two of them return empty-handed, he asked after Lu Jingcheng sat down, “Didn’t find it?”

“No.”

“You didn’t find it, and he didn’t either?”

“Neither of us.”

“Tsk. Then you two wasted the whole noon for nothing.”

Exactly, Lu Jingcheng thought. He had assumed that with so many bookstores near the school, it would be easy to find.

Yet after asking around everywhere, none of them had it.

Lu Jingcheng pulled out his phone and opened Taobao to search.

Several shops on Taobao did have the workbook, but none of them were local.

Even if he paid right away and they shipped it today, it still would not arrive by tomorrow.

Lu Jingcheng typed: “Can you send it by SF Express rush delivery? I need it tomorrow morning.”

Customer service replied: “Dear customer, it is possible, but we cannot guarantee it will arrive tomorrow morning~ It will probably arrive tomorrow afternoon~”

Lu Jingcheng: …By the afternoon the Chinese class will already be over. What’s the point of rushing it then?!

Feeling exhausted, he rested his head on the desk and fell asleep.

Ye Qingyang also asked Taobao customer service and received the exact same answer.

After thinking about it, he still placed the order and paid, asking them to ship it as soon as possible.

Since the bookstores near the school did not have it and it was available online, ordering it online was the only option.

Being a day or two late was not a big problem.

After solving the workbook issue, he played some games for a while. When class ended, he went to the restroom.

When Lu Jingcheng saw him leave—and noticed Chen Wei was not around—he immediately grabbed his own Chinese workbook and rushed to Ye Qingyang’s desk.

With a smack, he placed it on the table and quickly returned to his own seat.

He was different from Ye Qingyang. His Chinese grades were already pretty good. On top of that, the teachers at school knew who he was, so most of the time they turned a blind eye to him.

If Ye Qingyang lost his workbook, the teacher would scold him.

But if Lu Jingcheng lost his, the Chinese teacher would not say anything openly—at most she would privately tell him to buy another one.

Lu Jingcheng opened Taobao and ordered a new copy for himself.

Perfect. Now everything was solved. Both he and Ye Qingyang would have one, and neither of them would get into trouble.

Very satisfied with himself, Lu Jingcheng started playing games.

When Ye Qingyang returned from the restroom, he noticed a Chinese workbook sitting on his desk.

He flipped it open and saw that there was no name written inside.

Turning a few more pages, he saw that most of the early exercises had already been done. In some places, perhaps because the person was too lazy to write, the answers to reading comprehension questions were simply underlined directly in the original text.

Lazy—but every key point had been correctly marked.

And the handwriting was quite nice, looking bold and elegant.

It was a boy’s handwriting.

Almost instantly, Ye Qingyang guessed who had left it on his desk.

He glanced at Lu Jingcheng and began to suspect that Lu Jingcheng had not gone to buy books for his sister at all during lunch.

He had actually gone to help Ye Qingyang look for the workbook.

So prideful on the outside, yet softhearted underneath.
