Chapter 42

This entry is part 43 of 72 in the series The Charming School Heartthrob

Ye Qingyang felt his head was about to explode—how could it end in a BE? Wasn’t this supposed to be a sweet campus story, a Cinderella and her prince charming tale? Why the sudden BE ending?

He flipped through the information in his mind and finally pinpointed the problem: it all came down to the “prince and Cinderella” part.

In the last few chapters, the author suddenly had Yu Wan decide that the gap between her and Lu Jingcheng’s social standing was too large—she could never truly fit into his world, and he would never understand the struggles of ordinary life.

So, despite their brief encounter, they would part ways again, each seeking someone more compatible in terms of background and life experience.

The person Yu Wan chose was her childhood friend, Xu Zhe—the male second lead of the story.

She felt Xu Zhe’s family, while better off than her own, wasn’t as unreachable as Lu Jingcheng’s, and Xu Zhe was gentle, considerate, and better at understanding people’s feelings. Unlike Lu Jingcheng, he wasn’t a proud young master stuck in an ivory tower.

And just like that, the male second lead ascended, ending up with Yu Wan happily ever after.

Ye Qingyang: ????

He slammed his palm on the desk, furious. What kind of dog ending was this!

Just because Xu Zhe was gentle and considerate, does that mean Lu Jingcheng wasn’t?

Xu Zhe understood the ways of the world, but Lu Jingcheng was pure, proud, and a bit tsundere—was that not enough?

Ye Qingyang thought Lu Jingcheng was perfect! How could Yu Wan be incompatible with him and let the second lead take his place?

He was so angry he felt like his quads would spontaneously burst if he ever met Xu Zhe in real life.

Damn it—Lu Jingcheng is adorable, kind, pure, considerate, and social! Just a little prideful—he’s rich, he can be tsundere!

And now they were talking about social background in a campus romance? This was a high school fantasy story! A handsome, domineering, unbeatable male lead with every girl swooning over him—why bring up family background at 80% into the story? Why not at 8%?

The more Ye Qingyang thought, the angrier he became. He could barely focus as class started, slapping the desk again in frustration.

He wanted to hit something—not the desk, but Yu Wan’s head—to make her see that Lu Jingcheng was the best!

“Sit still, think straight,” he muttered to himself. “There’s no need to mourn for Yu Wan—my Lu Jingcheng has an entire forest of possibilities!”

He held Lu Jingcheng’s hand, leaning in, “Bro, I need to say something.”

Lu Jingcheng looked at him, amused and wary of the hand holding, “Say it.”

“I think you shouldn’t meet Yu Wan again. Don’t talk to her. Don’t contact her privately.”

“It’s to prevent you from falling into the 80% ‘love sacrifice’ plot!”

Lu Jingcheng chuckled, realizing the reason, “So… you’re upset because of the forum rumors about me and Yu Wan?”

Ye Qingyang: ???? Forum rumors? Already?! At double speed?

“Exactly why you shouldn’t deal with her anymore,” he advised. “If you interact with her, the rumors could become ‘true,’ and it won’t be good for either of you.”

Lu Jingcheng teased, “Someone’s anxious.”

Ye Qingyang fumed, letting go of his hand, “I’m doing this for your own good!”

Lu Jingcheng laughed softly. “Doing it for whom?”

Ye Qingyang: …for you, of course.

Lu Jingcheng shook his head, thinking finally the jealousy was gone—thankfully he had removed the forum posts early, or Ye Qingyang would still be drowning in jealousy.
