Chapter 65

This entry is part 66 of 72 in the series The Charming School Heartthrob

Ye Hong’s worst fears came true—Wang Fan was expelled.

At first, Lu Jingcheng had not intended to cost him his job. He only meant to retaliate against Ye Hong and Wang Yue, not their children. But the day he helped Ye Qingyang move, seeing how Wang Fan treated Ye Qingyang right in front of him made something snap. If Wang Fan dared act like that when he was present, then who knew what he had done over the years when he was not?

That thought filled him with anger, and in passing, he made sure Wang Fan paid for it.

Ironically, Wang Hui, thanks to her pregnancy, became the only one in the family who still had a job.

When Liu Ni heard that Wang Fan had lost his job, she rushed back from her parents’ home that very afternoon and started a fight the moment she stepped inside.

“What is wrong with you? No house, no job—how am I supposed to live like this with you?!”

Wang Fan tried to calm her. “We’ll have a house eventually. I’ll find another job.”

But Liu Ni would not listen.

“Find a job? With what?! Do you know how hard the job market is right now? College graduates can’t even find work—and you’re not even one! What kind of job do you think you can get? Can you even afford a house?”

Ye Hong could not stand it anymore and cut in. “This isn’t his fault. Why are you yelling at him? If you want a house so badly, why don’t you work for it together? All you do is spend money—have you ever saved anything?”

“You shrew!” she snapped. “No manners at all! He’s your husband—how can you insult him like this instead of supporting him?”

Liu Ni let out a cold laugh. “And you have the nerve to talk about me? What did you tell me when I got married? You said that house belonged to you. But it doesn’t! If I’d known you didn’t have a house, I never would have married him!”

“You married just for a house?” Ye Hong shouted.

“This isn’t about the house! You lied to me—you all lied! This is fraud!”

“I didn’t!” Wang Fan protested.

“How didn’t you? That house isn’t yours. Your family doesn’t even own one. If I’d known that, I would never have married you!”

“It is ours!”

“Stop it!” Liu Ni scoffed. “That’s your brother’s house. Unless he dies, what does it have to do with you?”

The room fell silent.

Unaware of the shift, Liu Ni grabbed her bag. “Divorce!”

She stormed out. Wang Fan hurried after her.

Wang Yue scoffed, “No backbone. Who would want a wife like that anyway?”

Ye Hong, however, was already worrying about their jobs.

Meanwhile, something far darker took root in Wang Fan’s mind.

If Ye Qingyang were dead, everything would go back to normal.

The house would be theirs.

The conflicts would disappear.

The thought settled in, and by the next day, he had already formed a plan.

But the plan failed.

The thug he hired was captured. Wang Fan was arrested. And everything spiraled out of control.

Back at the dormitory, Ye Qingyang slept through the night and woke up at noon.

His phone showed over a hundred missed calls—all from unfamiliar numbers. He ignored them, washed up, and went to the cafeteria.

A classmate, Li Lei, sat beside him.

“Where’s Lu Jingcheng today?”

“He went home.”

“Oh. Then can you help me with some problems later?”

“Sure.”

Then Li Lei hesitated. “By the way… there’s someone outside looking for you. A woman, in her forties. She’s been asking everyone if you live here.”

Ye Qingyang immediately understood.

“My aunt,” he said calmly. “Her son hired someone to beat me yesterday and got arrested. She’s here to ask me to drop the charges.”

Li Lei’s eyes widened. “That’s shameless.”

Ye Qingyang only smiled faintly.

When Lu Jingcheng returned and heard everything, he was shaken.

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?!”

“You were at home. I didn’t want you to worry.”

Lu Jingcheng checked him from head to toe, still uneasy.

That night, he even insisted on inspecting him for injuries before letting him shower—thoroughly, and with complete seriousness.

Ye Qingyang could only stand there, speechless.

He’s… actually just checking for injuries? That’s it?

Not even one improper glance?

Unbelievable.

Meanwhile, outside the school gates, Ye Hong and Wang Yue waited.

The moment they saw Ye Qingyang, Ye Hong rushed forward and pleaded, “Yangyang, it’s been two days—just let your brother go.”

Lu Jingcheng stepped in front of him. “He tried to kill someone first!”

“It was just a moment of impulse—he didn’t mean it!”

“Every murderer says that.”

Wang Yue lost his temper. “This is a family matter! Who are you to interfere?!”

Ye Qingyang remained calm. “Family? Since when?”

Things escalated quickly.

Wang Yue, humiliated and furious, pulled out a knife and lunged.

But Ye Qingyang and Lu Jingcheng worked together—dodging, disarming, and restraining him.

The police arrived soon after.

That incident sealed everything.

Wang Fan faced charges for attempted murder.

Wang Yue was arrested for assault with a weapon.

The family collapsed overnight.

As if that were not enough, another blow followed.

While Ye Hong took Wang Hui to find a lawyer, they ran into Zhao Wei—Wang Hui’s husband—intimately involved with another woman.

The confrontation turned violent.

In the chaos, Wang Hui fell.

She lost the baby.

Now, in the hospital room, silence filled the air.

Wang Hui lay staring blankly at the ceiling, tears sliding down her face.

Ye Hong sat beside her, hollow and exhausted.

Her husband was in custody.

Her son was facing prison.

Her daughter had lost her child.

Everything had fallen apart.

And for the first time, she truly had nothing left to say.
