Chapter 143
Ye Zhi stood quietly by the side, waiting.
Returning after an affair and seeing Huo Youcheng in such a state, Ye Zhi felt a pang of guilt, but he did not regret it.
Even if it cost him his life in exchange for last night, he wouldn’t regret it.
Only when embracing Huo Youqiao did Ye Zhi feel truly alive. So, despite the immorality and incestuous nature of their relationship, he had taken the first step and wasn’t willing to let go.
Because of his guilt, he treated Huo Youcheng a bit better, even making an effort to smile at him.
Huo Youcheng clearly noticed the difference, looking at him with pleasant surprise, “Why are you so happy today?”
Ye Zhi panicked slightly and quickly found an excuse, “I’ve finished reviewing all the subjects for the exam, so I feel a bit more relaxed.”
Huo Youcheng laughed, “So you were so down before because you were worried about failing? It’s okay, you’re quite capable. If you want, you can come work in the finance department of my company.” He quickly remembered his company’s “employees” and changed his tune, “How about my uncle’s branch office? They do trade there, and there’s a position you could fill.” But then he reconsidered again, “Forget it, the branch is too far away, I can’t bear to let you go.”
As the topic shifted, Ye Zhi calmed down, “How are you feeling today?”
Huo Youcheng’s face fell, “Still very tired. Walking one lap feels like it’s going to kill me.”
He was whining to Ye Zhi, but his eyes were bright and carried a hint of a smile.
Ye Zhi wasn’t used to this atmosphere and awkwardly whispered, “Don’t talk nonsense… Mother will be angry if she hears.”
Huo Youcheng had a lot of caregivers, some to help with his rehabilitation and others to manage his daily life. Since he could handle business again, his secretary and assistant also came, and one of the rooms in the three-bedroom hospital suite was set up as an office. So, even though Huo Youcheng wanted to talk more with Ye Zhi, he couldn’t because of his work commitments.
However, he domineeringly insisted that Ye Zhi stay within his sight. If the hospital didn’t have rules against unrelated persons staying overnight, he probably would have demanded Ye Zhi live there too.
Ye Zhi was indifferent to his demands; after all, he spent his free time reading, and he could do that anywhere.
Huo Youcheng, however, felt frustrated.
Even though they were in the same room, he couldn’t feel Ye Zhi’s care for him.
Despite being busy, he couldn’t help but look at his partner frequently, tracing his outline with his eyes. But Ye Zhi never looked up at him, unless he called for him.
Was the book really that interesting?
After being ignored for two hours without even a glance from Ye Zhi, Huo Youcheng couldn’t take it anymore. He wheeled himself over. Even as he approached, Ye Zhi didn’t notice, his attention still on his book. Huo Youcheng simply took the book from his hands, frowning in displeasure, “What are you reading? Is it that interesting?”
Ye Zhi was startled and looked up, quickly showing a gentle smile, “It’s Mr. Silver Ear’s new work, ‘City of Science Fiction,’ it really is fascinating.”
Huo Youcheng was surprised, “You actually like sci-fi?”
After five years of marriage, Ye Zhi no longer felt any stirrings over such ignorance of his interests. He calmly said, “Yes, I think sci-fi can inspire imagination.”
Huo Youcheng put on a hurt expression, “Is this book so good? You’ve been reading it non-stop, not even glancing at me.”
Ye Zhi was puzzled, “Are you feeling unwell?”
Huo Youcheng was about to explode with frustration. Seeing the anger building in his eyes, Ye Zhi got nervous and carefully asked, “Do you want some water? I’ll get you a glass.”
Huo Youcheng wanted to be angry, but remembering his past actions, he forced himself to swallow his anger.
