Chapter 149
How fortunate he was to have met this man. Despite not being exceptional, not beautiful or particularly outstanding, with more flaws than merits, he was still loved by him.
Moreover, Huo Youqiao was willing to bear the burden of this morally questionable relationship.
As Huo Youqiao entered him again, Ye Zhi couldn’t help but confess once more, “I really… like you so much…”
Despite his initial refusal, Ye Zhi received a car from Huo Youcheng a few days later.
The car was a latest model from a very expensive brand, costing as much as a typical house in Central City. It boasted high performance, a top-notch safety system, and features like automatic driving. Essentially, anyone with basic driving knowledge could handle it.
The color was striking too, a dazzling red that gleamed like a giant ruby under the sunlight.
Ye Zhi was led to the hospital entrance unknowingly, with Qing Qing deliberately covering his eyes. When her hands moved away, he saw the car and Huo Youcheng sitting nearby in a wheelchair. Seeing his stunned expression, Huo Youcheng seemed quite pleased, his smile widening as he raised his eyebrows. “Do you like it?”
Ye Zhi’s heart skipped a beat. “Is this for me?”
Huo Youcheng chuckled. “Of course it’s for you. Who else would it be for?” He used to think he was good at romance, giving small gifts, creating surprises, and spending time on various things for Ye Mu. But after being hurt, he realized the value of money. With enough money, anyone would fawn over him, so he got used to spending money instead of effort on his relationships.
He had many lovers, some effectively kept, some one-night stands, and others for brief periods. He was always generous, even gifting mansions. Ironically, he was the stingiest with his legal partner, Ye Zhi.
Ye Zhi had never received any gifts from him, not even a single thread or needle.
He knew the Ye family loved money, so he did it on purpose. However, contrary to his expectations, Ye Zhi was quite frugal, working diligently and supporting himself entirely on his salary. He never wore luxury brands and would prepare his own lunches to take to work.
This had surprised him, but he hadn’t paid much attention to it before.
Now it was different. Having genuinely fallen for Ye Zhi, he realized how much he owed him. So, despite the refusal, he ordered the car anyway, eager to see Ye Zhi’s happy reaction.
But Ye Zhi didn’t seem happy, appearing instead somewhat anxious. “You didn’t need to buy this for me. I’m not good at driving, and the loop line is very convenient for getting around.”
Huo Youcheng was slightly disappointed, realizing Ye Zhi wasn’t politely declining but genuinely didn’t want it. “But I’ve already bought it and registered it in your name. Whether you want it or not, it’s yours now.”
He looked at Ye Zhi, lips pressed together, his tone less pleasant. “Do you want it?”
His sharp gaze revealed his displeasure. Startled, Ye Zhi hesitated, while Qing Qing nervously tugged his sleeve. Finally, Ye Zhi said, “Thank you.”
Only then did Huo Youcheng smile again, wheeling himself closer to Ye Zhi. “Others call their partners ‘hubby’. Why don’t you call me that?” He took Ye Zhi’s left hand, gently rubbing the back of it with his thumb. “I want to hear you call me that too.”
Though he tried to be gentle with Ye Zhi, old habits die hard. His domineering and quick temper showed when he didn’t get the response he wanted. Sensing this, Ye Zhi reluctantly whispered, “Hubby…”
The term came out awkwardly and dryly, but it satisfied Huo Youcheng. “Try driving it. You won’t need the loop line anymore; just drive to see me every day. The villa security is set up, too. My assistant handled it, so you can enter without showing ID.”
“Okay…”
Besides the car, Huo Youcheng started giving Ye Zhi clothes, bags, and watches. He even brought in his personal stylist to give Ye Zhi a new haircut.
Ye Zhi’s thick, straight hair was usually kept in a simple style, shorter in the back and longer in the front to hide a scar from Ye Mu. The new haircut and trimmed eyebrows gave him a refined look, making him unexpectedly striking. He even attracted attention when he went out.
The clothes were meticulously chosen, high fashion or designer brands tailored to fit Ye Zhi perfectly.
“Second Young Master really knows how to pamper now,” Qing Qing said, his eyes shining as he looked at the pile of items. “These are so expensive. This watch is a limited edition, with only a hundred pieces worldwide. It’s worth more than the car he gave you.”
