Chapter 184

The dining table was placed in the living room, a small, old table with a worn but clean surface. The four of them sat around it. Ye Zhi changed the subject, “I remember you have a sister.”

“Lele goes to school in town and won’t be home until evening,” Qing Qing explained, thanking him, “Thank you for buying her the colored pencils. She’ll definitely love them. She loves drawing the most.”

“No need to thank me.”

The dishes were all placed on the table, chicken, beef, and fresh green vegetables, all looking delicious. Qing Qing smiled, “Zhi Zhi, you’re in luck today. My dad’s cooking is the best in the Heitu Mountains. When it gets a bit colder, I’ll have him make a whole roast lamb for you.”

“Thank you.”

Yu finally put on a thin shirt. Although there were still two points protruding from his chest, it was better than being naked, making Ye Zhi feel more comfortable. He brought a water pitcher and placed a cup in front of Ye Zhi, then poured the liquid from the pitcher into the cup.

The milky white liquid filled the cup, emitting a faint heat. Yu said, “This is freshly squeezed goat milk. Try it.”

After thanking him, Ye Zhi picked up the cup and was about to take a sip when his nostrils were suddenly assaulted by a strong fishy smell. The nausea he had managed to hold back suddenly surged up again, and Ye Zhi couldn’t help but gag, turning his head aside.

He didn’t actually vomit, just dry heaved, but it was enough to scare Qing Qing. Qing Qing quickly brought him hot water to drink and rubbed his back. After a while, Ye Zhi managed to suppress the feeling of nausea. Qing Qing asked with concern, “Are you sick?”

Ye Zhi shook his head, took a few sips of hot water, and felt much better. “Maybe the aftereffects of seasickness haven’t completely disappeared yet. I occasionally feel like this during this period.”

Yu’s expression was a bit strange, exchanging a glance with Hui, wanting to say something but ultimately staying silent.

Feeling uncomfortable, Ye Zhi didn’t eat much. Halfway through, he couldn’t help but ask, “Do many people know about our divorce?”

Qing Qing said, “Probably not many. After all, not many people knew about our marriage in the first place. Er Shao wouldn’t publicize this matter widely online. I only found out about it through my husband…” He suddenly stopped and quickly laughed again. “Anyway, it’s fate that you’re here. The central city is so lively and bustling, maybe it’s really not suitable for us to stay there. Let’s start anew here!”

He expressed his determination to cheer up, and Hui and Yu were both very happy.

After dinner, Qing Qing took Ye Zhi for a walk around the village.

The climate here was much warmer than in the central city, with three seasons of summer every year and only one season with a slight chill. Therefore, the trees grew extremely tall and lush, and the fruits were especially sweet.

“This is our local specialty, the Sand Fruit.” Qing Qing jumped up and picked a fruit from a nearby branch, peeled it, and handed it to Ye Zhi. “Have you tried it? It’s delicious, sandy and sweet, with plenty of moisture, and the pits are very small. However, it’s not easy to preserve, and the taste is not good when frozen, so it can’t be sold too far away. In the central city, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

After thanking him, Ye Zhi accepted it. “I have tried it. A colleague brought it for me.”

Only then did Qing Qing realize that Ye Zhi had already started working. He had been too eager to vent his emotional problems earlier and hadn’t had a chance to ask about Ye Zhi’s recent situation. “Where do you work? How did you find a job so quickly?”

Ye Zhi explained his experience in detail.

Qing Qing exclaimed, “Your luck is too good! Your boss is the richest person in our Heitu Mountains! He’s also the most influential person. With him backing you, no one will dare to bully you.”

Ye Zhi smiled, “I also feel very lucky.”

He thought his luck had run out after receiving Huo Youqiao’s love, but he didn’t expect that heaven was still favoring him.

“But the working hours are too early, at three-thirty in the morning. My god, if it were me, I wouldn’t be able to get up. Wouldn’t that be exhausting?”

“It’s okay. It’s usually busy only in the morning, and unless it’s the end of the month, the rest of the time is relatively leisurely. Plus, I have two days off every month.” Ye Zhi was quite satisfied with his current job. Although he wasn’t good at socializing, the people he met had good attitudes, which made him feel at ease.

Qing Qing said, “It seems very fulfilling. I also want to go to work.”

“But don’t you want to open your own shop?”
