Chapter 33

The middle-aged tycoon he married ended up in prison.

When he got married, although the middle-aged tycoon’s family wealth wasn’t considered vast, it was a step up from the Ye family, so Ye Wan overlooked his other shortcomings, such as being divorced, having children, and being fifteen years older than Ye Mu. She even had her youngest son sent to him, and in order to avoid any trouble, she had Ye Mu marked before their engagement.

This led to missing out on Huo Youcheng, a true golden son-in-law.

Ye Mu’s wedding was disrupted, with everything smashed to pieces by the people brought by Huo Youcheng, even the bouquet was torn apart, and the little bear doll on top was cut into pieces with scissors, humiliating him. So even though Huo Youcheng didn’t reveal his infidelity, everything he did was enough to make people curious about the reasons behind it, and thus more vicious rumors never stopped circulating.

So Ye Mu didn’t have a good time after marriage.

He was supposed to be a pampered wealthy wife, delicate and beautiful, nurtured by his mother since childhood. After marriage, he should have been good at socializing, meeting many wives and ladies in the same circle and blending in effortlessly, then using them as resources to widen his future path.

But because of the incidents at the wedding, coupled with it being the Huo family’s doing, no one would actively invite him to banquets. Once, he shamelessly went with his husband, but before he could utilize his social skills, he was ridiculed for the wedding incident by arrogant people, becoming a laughingstock.

After that, Ye Mu hid at home, hardly going anywhere. How could a person with such a personality endure such a life? When he felt frustrated, he would quarrel with his husband, saying that he had abandoned her young and wealthy lover for him.

Her husband’s temperament was considered gentle, and he initially indulged and placated him. However, with more constraints in business, and Ye Mu’s lack of affection for his stepson, he grew annoyed and stopped caring for him, beginning to ignore him.

Later on, there was a gentle mistress outside.

Upon learning of this, Ye Mu turned their home upside down. If his husband felt guilty towards her at first, later on, he became righteous, no longer having any pity for Ye Mu.

And this time, trouble arose because Ye Mu’s husband bribed government officials, and the company was found to have evaded taxes. After the officials were arrested and sent to prison, he was immediately put under supervision.

Large-scale tax evasion is a serious crime on the planet, and bribery is even worse. Ye Mu’s husband, An Yongnan, had his assets quickly seized, and the company’s operations came to a halt, pending further investigation. In this way, it was almost certain that An Yongnan would go bankrupt.

As soon as trouble arose, Ye Mu thought of divorcing him and immediately returned to the Ye family.

But Ye Wan had deeper concerns. “With a divorce and the lifetime marking removed, you’ll become just an ordinary person. What kind of partner can you find in the future? Besides, his assets are only seized temporarily. A camel dying of starvation is still bigger than a horse. As long as we can find a way to rescue him, won’t he still cherish you in the future? The An family has more than just him. I know his uncles and cousins are wealthy too. As long as we get through this, everything will be fine in the future.”

Ye Wan was the backbone of the Ye family, and anything she said was very effective. Ye Mu quickly listened, calming down. “Then what can we do to rescue him? The company’s finances have been seized, and the evidence is solid.”

Ye Wan was also troubled. She made many phone calls to gather information and seek help, but she hit a brick wall almost every time. Finally, when she saw news of the mayor of Central City visiting veterans on TV, she remembered, “We can ask the Huo family for help!”

As soon as Ye Mu heard the word “Huo,” he shuddered all over. Even though it had been five years since the shadow of the wedding, it hadn’t been erased from his heart. “Ask Cheng? Even if he doesn’t hate me, how could he be willing to help me…”

Ye Wan said, “Ask Huo Youqiao. Your brother has a good relationship with Huo Youqiao’s daughter. Perhaps he can persuade Huo Youqiao. As long as he agrees, your husband will definitely be released.”

Ye Mu frowned slightly. “He has a good relationship with Huo Youqiao’s daughter?”

When Ye Wan was asked this question, she hesitated a bit, then said, “Call him back and ask.”

When Ye Zhi received the call requesting him to come home, he wasn’t willing, but he never had the opportunity to refuse his mother’s orders. And when he got home and saw his brother sitting on the sofa, he felt even more uncomfortable.

Due to their parents’ favoritism since childhood, the relationship between the two brothers was never harmonious. Ye Mu was outgoing, pampered since childhood, and children learn by watching their parents, so whatever attitude the parents had towards the older brother, he had the same attitude, even worse. Ye Zhi wasn’t likable, naturally introverted, like a punching bag, never speaking up even when bullied, so Ye Mu especially liked to bully him and snatch his things. Ye Zhi was far inferior to him in material possessions since childhood, and he didn’t have much that he could take a liking to. But even if he didn’t like them, as long as he saw Ye Zhi treasuring something, he would snatch it away, then destroy or throw away the item in front of Ye Zhi.

This was just childhood pranks, but as they grew older, Ye Mu no longer saw him as a person. Sometimes, he wouldn’t even call him “brother,” and sometimes he wouldn’t even call him by name, his attitude towards him was too arrogant.

And then, by some twist of fate, what he missed fell on Ye Zhi’s head, which made Ye Mu even more resentful.

The only thing that made him feel a little better was that even though he was married to Huo Youcheng, Huo Youcheng didn’t love him at all and treated him poorly, which balanced out Ye Mu’s feelings.
