Chapter 5
Staring at the call record for a while, Ye Zhi certainly couldn’t bring himself to call his husband and question him about today’s scandal. He dared not and didn’t want to, considering there was so much clear evidence of Huo Youcheng’s infidelity, it seemed there was no need to confirm it further.
And he knew exactly what kind of response he would get.
Huo Youcheng would surely sneer and then mock him, saying, “Yeah, I cheated. So what? You think I shouldn’t have? Then divorce me. Do you want Andy to draft a divorce agreement for you? But you should think it over. After the divorce, you won’t get anything. The little investment your family can get now will also be withdrawn. Have you calculated the debts your family will have to bear by then?”
Ye Zhi, being a finance student, had indeed calculated it.
So, apart from enduring, he had no other way.
Enduring the urge to close the communicator, he refrained from looking at the scandal involving the female celebrity Tang Xue’er. When he reached the station closest to home, Ye Zhi got off the train.
This area was the oldest villa district in the central city, with each villa being over sixty years old. Those who could live here were either from prestigious families or wealthy individuals.
And among them, the relatively low-key but spacious villa belonged to the Huo family.
It would take over twenty minutes to walk from the station to the Huo family’s residence. Ye Zhi always liked to walk with his head down, trying to stay as close to the edge of the road as possible, as if not to obstruct anyone’s path, much like his personality, not wanting to be an obstacle to anyone.
He was accustomed to placing himself on the edge.
The roads here were smooth, and the plants in the flower beds exuded a vibrant atmosphere. Having lived here for five years, Ye Zhi felt no sense of belonging. He always felt that he would leave here one day, back to the world that should have been his.
And now, this feeling became even deeper, perhaps influenced by a few words from his mother.
Huh?
Huo Youcheng had been fooling around for so many years, and there had never been such a scandalous video exposed. So, instead of accidentally being caught, it seemed more like a deliberate move.
Was he intentionally declaring this relationship?
A bitter smile crept onto his lips, and his steps felt even heavier. But when a car approached from behind, Ye Zhi noticed it and quickly moved aside, nearly stepping into the flower bed. As he stopped to let the car pass, it unexpectedly stopped beside him.
The car window rolled down,
A beautiful little girl popped her head out, full of joy, “Zhi Zhi, I saw you from far away!”
Ye Zhi was taken aback, and seeing it was Ranran, he couldn’t help but smile, “Ranran, did you just come back from kindergarten?”
“Yes, Daddy picked me up.”
Hearing her mention “Daddy,” Ye Zhi inexplicably tensed up, his back stiffening, and his gaze stiff as well, subconsciously looking into the car window.
With just one glance, he saw the handsome man sitting in the back seat in a black suit, the eldest young master of the Huo family, and the current mayor of the central city—Huo Youqiao.
Unlike the charming and suave Huo Youcheng, Huo Youqiao seemed difficult to approach. Although his features were handsome, he rarely smiled. He always wore gold-rimmed glasses, which added to his sternness and made people hesitate to meet his gaze.
He had returned to the central city for over a month, and Ye Zhi hadn’t dared to look into his eyes.
So, when Ranran warmly invited him to get in the car, Ye Zhi’s first thought was to refuse, “I’ll walk back, it’s not far.”
Compared to the seemingly cold and distant Huo Youqiao, Ranran was beautiful and adorable, like a doll, her emotions varied and colorful, “But I want to play with Zhi Zhi as soon as possible. We haven’t finished the puzzle from yesterday.”
Ye Zhi coaxed softly, “I’ll walk faster, it won’t delay us, okay?” His voice wasn’t very clear or magnetic, but it sounded gentle.
The man who had been busy working with his head down heard the words “okay” at the end, and he came back to his senses from his busyness, lifting his head to turn towards Ye Zhi for the first time as if his gaze landed on him for the first time.
