Chapter 35
These past few days, business at Dongjian wasn’t particularly busy. Around noon, Fu Yu had almost completed his work for the day. He pondered for a moment, then sent a message to Xiao Yi, asking if he had time for lunch together.
Xiao Yi replied immediately: [Sure.]
This was the first time he had initiated plans with Xiao Yi, excluding their high school days. Fu Yu had thought long and hard about the events of the past few days, and while he hadn’t come to a clear conclusion about his feelings for Xiao Yi, he knew he needed to reciprocate the warmth Xiao Yi had shown him.
After packing up his things, Fu Yu called his driver to wait for him in the parking lot and took the elevator down.
As he reached the parking lot, a black luxury car suddenly pulled up in front of him.
The heavily armored rear window lowered, revealing Xiao Yongqing’s narrow and sharp eyes.
“It’s quite a coincidence. I was just about to look for you. Get in,” he said coldly and closed the window.
Fu Yu sighed inwardly, walked to the other side, and opened the car door, getting inside. His first words were, “I’m sorry, I broke our agreement and started a relationship with Xiao Yi.”
Xiao Yongqing’s temples throbbed, but his cultivated composure kept him from exploding on the spot. Nevertheless, his voice carried a thunderous rage:
“I trusted you, and we made an agreement to go abroad for business. Yet, you broke the contract. What do you think of my brother? A pet? Something you can summon and dismiss at will?”
Fu Yu wasn’t intimidated by Xiao Yongqing’s imposing demeanor. He spoke calmly and firmly, “I was wrong in this matter, and I apologize. But I can assure you that Xiao Yi is now a very important person in my heart. He’s the most important person to me after my family.”
Xiao Yongqing was somewhat taken aback by this one-eighty-degree attitude change, and he was more skeptical than surprised. “So, you like him again? In just these few months?”
“Yes, I like him. It’s possible that I liked him even before, but because of certain misunderstandings, I resented him for a long time. There’s undoubtedly guilt mixed in my feelings now, and I also know that I’m not currently worthy of his affection. But I’ll work on it.”
Fu Yu couldn’t pinpoint exactly when he had started liking Xiao Yi, but that day when he went to clarify the misunderstanding with Xiao Yi, he had been prepared to be rejected and locked out. However, Xiao Yi had easily opened the door for him.
Holding him gently and saying, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
There was no mockery, no disdain, only genuine concern and care.
Even after being hurt so many times, he was willing to open his arms so generously.
In that moment, his heartstrings had been struck.
Although he was still somewhat clueless about matters of love, he couldn’t ignore such a strong and undeniable feeling.
So, Fu Yu was now very confident in making a promise to Xiao Yongqing.
Xiao Yongqing looked at Fu Yu with sincere and clear eyes, thinking that Fu Yu had a face that could convince people, no matter what he said.
At that time, he had been persuaded by Fu Yu’s calm and composed attitude and believed that Fu Yu had no interest in Xiao Yi. That’s why he left for abroad with confidence. He didn’t believe it until he saw them eating together, being affectionate, and his own brother looking so foolishly happy.
Xiao Yongqing didn’t object to his brother’s liking someone of the same sex. His concern was that Fu Yu had hurt Xiao Yi before, and he didn’t believe Fu Yu could make Xiao Yi happy.
However, now, Fu Yu’s words had taken him by surprise. This person who seemed to have no emotions or desires actually had “liking” as an emotion?
Xiao Yongqing pondered for a moment.
“What if you try your best and still can’t do it? You can’t force feelings. What if you end up breaking up with him again? Giving hope and taking it back is worse than not giving it at all.”
“If he doesn’t ask for a breakup, I won’t leave him,” Fu Yu promised. “I owe him too much, and I’ll spend my whole life repaying him.”
“Have you told him this?”
“No, I just agreed to date him.”
“Why don’t you tell him your feelings?”
“Because…” Fu Yu hesitated, “I’m not sure if I can fully reciprocate his feelings at the moment. I don’t want to disappoint him. I’ll wait a bit longer.”
Xiao Yongqing squinted his eyes and carefully examined Fu Yu once more. He had a rough understanding of their current situation.
These two fools in love would likely need a push from someone to truly come together. He had no intention of being an obstacle to their relationship, but he also had no plans to be the benevolent person who pushed them together.
Xiao Yongqing sneered, “Fine, I’ll give you one last chance. But don’t blame me if I don’t remind you. Everyone’s patience has its limits. Don’t think Xiao Yi will wait for you unconditionally forever. He’s surrounded by newcomers and temptations, and you’re just relying on your past relationship with him.”
Fu Yu was taken aback for a moment and then softly replied, “Mmm.”
After getting out of Xiao Yongqing’s car and watching it disappear into the distance, Fu Yu remained standing there in a daze, contemplating Xiao Yongqing’s words.
What if Xiao Yi lost patience? He had never considered this scenario. If Xiao Yi did become impatient with him, what would he do?
