Chapter 6
On the weekend, Fu Yu’s family and his cousin’s family gathered for a meal to celebrate his cousin, Ling Tian, passing the prestigious university’s recommended admission test in City A.
Fu Yu hadn’t seen his cousin for a while, so he took the opportunity to give him some advice about university life, considering he had been through it himself. Ling Tian listened attentively, nodding occasionally, appearing mature and reliable.
“Little Tian, you seem to have grown taller again,” Fu Yu observed, estimating that he was about two or three centimeters taller than himself.
Ling Tian smiled lightly, “Yes, now I’m 1.85 meters tall, even taller than you.”
“That’s good. I’m sure there are many girls chasing after you in school. If you find someone you like in college, you can start dating,” Fu Yu said, offering some advice. Ling Tian had always been reserved and preferred solitude, so Fu Yu was concerned that he might miss out on opportunities.
But Ling Tian replied, “Brother, I have someone I might like.”
This surprised Fu Yu. “What do you mean ‘might like’?”
“It means that I’m not sure yet if I like her, but I think I might. I don’t know why, though. At first, I found her quite annoying.”
“Can you really go from disliking someone to liking them?” Fu Yu couldn’t quite understand.
“I can’t explain it. It’s just that at some point, I suddenly felt something for her. Brother, have you ever had that feeling?”
A feeling of being moved? Fu Yu thought for a moment. It seemed like he had, but at the same time, he hadn’t.
Ling Tian patted his shoulder, “Brother, you’ll understand when the time comes.”
Fu Yu didn’t confirm or deny it. For now, he hadn’t even considered the idea of liking someone, let alone being in a relationship. He was fully focused on his work, and he was aware of his own reserved and uninteresting personality. Perhaps someone like him was better off being single.
However, maybe it was the atmosphere of the family gathering that night that made him feel a strange emotion and a desire he couldn’t quite define.
Fu Yu sighed softly and looked out at the lights of the city on the balcony, like a sea of stars.
On the other side of the lights,
Xiao Yi stood on the balcony of his villa, his gaze unfocused, staring into the distance. The glow from his phone screen illuminated his dark face.
In his phone’s chat history was information sent by his subordinate, Ali:
[Young Master, I looked into Chen Shaoguang, and there doesn’t seem to be any issues with him. His family’s Guangyu Media is a legitimate business company. I’ve sent you the basic information. However, there’s something peculiar I stumbled upon. Several key members of the design teams that were recently poached from us ended up at Guangyu.]
Xiao Yi chuckled in the darkness.
Originally, he had only wanted to investigate this old classmate of Fu Yu’s, who had close ties with him. However, he had stumbled upon unexpected information.
The design department was just a small part of the vast Xiao Corporation, and the poaching of some employees hadn’t drawn much attention from the higher-ups. Xiao Yi had initially decided not to investigate which company had hired them. But now, with the timing of it all, he couldn’t help but wonder if someone was deliberately trying to make things difficult for him, especially as he was about to take on his first major project. If not for his recommendation of Dongjian to his older brother, the project could have been delayed by several months, resulting in significant losses. Xiao Yi would have been heavily criticized by his older brother.
Was this a coincidence? Why would Guangyu Media, a mere media company, spend a significant amount to poach design teams at this particular time?
Perhaps someone was intentionally trying to provoke him, hoping to see him fail in front of others during his first major project.
Xiao Yi had some impression of Chen Shaoguang from high school. He had often looked at Fu Yu with unusual eyes, but he had never done anything out of the ordinary. Xiao Yi had simply regarded him as someone who was too timid to express his feelings. Besides, Fu Yu didn’t pay much attention to him, so Xiao Yi hadn’t given him much thought.
However, after all these years, the fact that Chen Shaoguang still had contact with Fu Yu and was causing trouble behind the scenes couldn’t be ignored.
Xiao Yi put his phone down, and in the cold darkness, he sighed lightly. He then turned and went into his bedroom.
The large villa was silent, as if no one lived there. There was minimal furniture, all in a simple and minimalist style. The 30-square-meter master bedroom contained only a bed, a wardrobe, and a bedside table. Even with the heating turned up, the room felt cold and empty.
However, there was an oddly out-of-place dolphin-shaped toy on the bedside table.
Xiao Yi lay down on the bed, his arms crossed behind his head. He glanced at the toy, a reminder of a visit to the aquarium they had made years ago. Back then, Xiao Yi had intended to give the toy to some other girl, but Ling Tian had taken it, making up a lie that he wanted to give it to his sister. In reality, he didn’t have a sister, only an older brother.
Perhaps from that moment on, he had already developed unusual feelings for Ling Tian. However, it was these feelings that shouldn’t have existed that had driven a wedge between them, preventing them from becoming friends.
“…What should I do with you?” Xiao Yi murmured softly, his words blending into the night, disappearing in an instant.
Who is ling tian and how did Xiao Yi get the toy back after it was snatched? It seems like this Ling Tian provoked Xiao Yi, but then regretted it?
