Chapter 139
In the few minutes that Su Bin spent chatting with William, he lost track of Sun Yujie and Andy. After searching around without finding them, he eventually circled back and ran into Cheng Ang instead.
“Senior, congratulations,” Su Bin said, not avoiding him but offering a lukewarm greeting.
“Thank you,” Cheng Ang replied with a slight smile.
To be honest, Su Bin had never liked Cheng Ang. From their first encounter, Cheng Ang hadn’t shown him a friendly face. Even though they had interacted during a long group project over the past six months, and Cheng Ang had fairly given Su Bin a good grade, his disapproval had always been evident. Naturally, Su Bin didn’t like someone who didn’t seem to like him, especially after what Cheng Ang had done to Sun Yujie, which had completely redefined Su Bin’s idea of a “jerk.”
But now, the way Cheng Ang was looking at Su Bin was different, and he seemed to be hesitating, as if he wanted to say something.
“Wait!” Seeing Su Bin about to leave, Cheng Ang finally spoke up, asking, “Did Xiao Jie come?”
As he asked this, the long-haired girl beside him noticeably frowned.
However, before Su Bin could answer, he felt a strong arm wrap around his shoulder, and then heard Jin Fei’s voice in his ear.
“Hey,” Jin Fei grinned as he draped an arm over Su Bin’s shoulder and looked at Cheng Ang. “Congrats, Da Tou!”
Cheng Ang looked at Jin Fei with a guarded expression, clearly irritated. “What are you doing here?”
“Why can’t I be here? Didn’t you invite all the Chinese students in M City to this party? What, are you only allowing people who come to flatter you?” Jin Fei teased, throwing a flirtatious glance at the girl beside Cheng Ang.
Given the special occasion, Cheng Ang didn’t want to cause a scene with Jin Fei and had to tolerate him.
Jin Fei then said, “I saw Xiao Jie earlier.”
Cheng Ang glanced around and tried to stay calm as he asked, “Where is he?”
Jin Fei pointed toward the entrance. “But he just mentioned he was leaving. I’m not sure if he’s still around.”
Cheng Ang’s expression changed. He looked in the direction Jin Fei indicated, then quickly let go of his date’s hand. “I’ll be right back.”
Jin Fei blocked the long-haired girl who tried to follow, smiling as he said, “Since you finally got him out of the way, can’t you at least chat with me for a bit?”
The long-haired girl hesitated, and Jin Fei leaned closer, whispering, “Are you really okay with just playing along with his act?”
The girl widened her eyes slightly, surprised by Jin Fei’s perceptiveness.
Su Bin was also taken aback—acting? What did that mean? Was this girl not actually with Cheng Ang?
Jin Fei chuckled and said, “Silly girl, you’re wasting your best years on him. Don’t you think that would break the heart of someone who really cares about you?”
… Su Bin couldn’t help but be impressed by Jin Fei’s ability to sweet-talk.
The long-haired girl giggled and playfully covered her mouth. “Mind your own business~”
Jin Fei grinned, “I don’t want to, but my heart just won’t let me.”
Su Bin, feeling overwhelmed by the cheesy lines, decided to leave and find Xiao Jie. He was also curious about what Cheng Ang wanted to say.
When he found Xiao Jie, the latter was happily eating with Andy at a food table. It seemed that Jin Fei had indeed deceived Cheng Ang.
Andy, looking dapper in a suit, was politely declining the advances of a few girls while staying focused on his food.
Su Bin asked, “Xiao Jie! Did you see Cheng Ang?”
Sun Yujie, who had been smiling, suddenly looked downcast when he heard Su Bin’s question. “I saw him. He seemed pretty busy, so I didn’t bother him. Why?”
“Nothing…” Su Bin replied. Huh, Cheng Ang didn’t come looking for Sun Yujie?
Looking around, Su Bin noticed that Cheng Ang was not far away, but was being held up by other guests at the party. In the brief moments between conversations, Cheng Ang’s gaze seemed to flicker toward Sun Yujie, but only for a second before he looked away, his expression completely unmoved.
This cold, indifferent behavior made Su Bin question whether the man who had been eager to find Sun Yujie earlier was the same person. He also found it hard to believe Jin Fei’s claim that Cheng Ang still had lingering feelings for Sun Yujie.
“How long are you guys planning to stay?” For some reason, Su Bin didn’t want Sun Yujie to run into Cheng Ang.
Sun Yujie glanced at Andy, who was enjoying some lobster noodles. “We’ll leave when he’s had his fill.”
Andy made an “OK” gesture toward Sun Yujie, as if saying, I’ll be quick.
Sun Yujie couldn’t help but laugh. “Take your time, no rush.”
Su Bin also smiled at the scene. If only Andy were gay, he thought…
They were having a good time when someone interrupted them. “Well, well, if it isn’t Xiao Jie!”
Su Bin turned to see the person he least wanted to see at this party—the spiked-heel girl.
“So, you’ve found a new lover already?” The girl sneered as she eyed Andy, clearly still holding a grudge from the slap Sun Yujie had given her before and looking for trouble.
Sun Yujie, annoyed by her presence, snapped, “Stop talking nonsense.”
Sensing the tension, Andy asked, looking at Sun Yujie and Su Bin in confusion, “Who’s this?”
Sun Yujie had no intention of making introductions, but Su Bin, for some reason, blurted out, “The woman who had a crush on Jason’s ex-boyfriend.”
Everyone: “…”
The information in that statement was overwhelming! Not only had Su Bin inadvertently revealed that Sun Yujie and Cheng Ang had dated, but he had also exposed the girl’s secret crush!
After a moment of awkward silence, Andy thoughtfully nodded. “Oh.”
The spiked-heel girl exploded, her face flushing with anger as she cursed in Chinese, “Bullshit!”
As Su Bin was struggling with how to handle a confrontation with a woman who had lost her cool and was being entirely unreasonable, Andy chimed in again, “What did she say?”
Su Bin awkwardly translated, “She said ‘bullshit.'”
…Ah, having a fellow countryman like this was truly embarrassing!
Andy, with an innocent expression, asked, “Huh? Is she… actually bullshitting?”
Su Bin and Sun Yujie couldn’t hold back their laughter anymore. They knew Andy wasn’t doing it on purpose, but his misunderstanding was just so hilariously on point!
With a straight face, Andy then tried to console the girl, “Miss, don’t be upset. I understand how you feel, but Xiao Jie and your crush are in the past. You should try to be more rational.”
The spiked-heel girl’s face turned white with rage, and she spat out, “What ex-boyfriend? Stop flattering yourself! Perverts like you hanging out with other perverts—seeing you here makes me sick. Just get lost!”
Andy’s straightforward declaration that he was Jason’s current boyfriend immediately shifted the mood. Su Bin felt the tension in the air intensify, and he could sense the familiar hostility emanating from Cheng Ang.
Cheng Ang’s expression turned cold, but before he could respond, the atmosphere around them became noticeably more charged. People who had been watching the confrontation earlier were now intrigued by this unexpected development, and a few even started whispering among themselves.
Su Bin felt a knot in his stomach. He hadn’t expected Andy to be so blunt, and he knew this could complicate things even further. Sun Yujie, on the other hand, was visibly shocked. He hadn’t anticipated Andy to claim such a role in front of everyone, especially since their relationship had never been clearly defined.
After a long pause, Cheng Ang finally spoke, his tone laced with sarcasm. “Is that so? Interesting. I didn’t realize Jason moved on so quickly.”
Andy, unfazed by the sarcasm, maintained his calm demeanor. “People have the right to move on when they realize what they truly want.”
Cheng Ang’s eyes narrowed. “And what exactly do you think he wants?”
Without missing a beat, Andy replied, “He wants someone who respects him, someone who isn’t afraid to acknowledge their relationship in front of others.”
This statement hung in the air, thick with implication. It was a direct jab at Cheng Ang’s earlier refusal to publicly acknowledge his relationship with Sun Yujie. The tension between the two men was palpable, and it was clear that everyone around them could feel it too.
Before things could escalate further, Su Bin quickly intervened. “Alright, I think that’s enough. This is neither the time nor the place for such a conversation.”
Sun Yujie, still reeling from the shock of the situation, nodded in agreement. “Yeah, let’s not make a scene here.”
Cheng Ang, realizing that he was on the losing side of this exchange, took a deep breath and forced a smile. “You’re right, this isn’t the place for such discussions. But this isn’t over.” He turned to leave, casting one last glance at Sun Yujie, who avoided his gaze.
As the crowd dispersed, Andy turned to Su Bin and Sun Yujie, offering a reassuring smile. “Sorry if I overstepped. I just wanted to make sure he understood.”
Su Bin, still processing everything that had just happened, could only nod. Sun Yujie, on the other hand, looked at Andy with a mix of gratitude and confusion. “Thank you, Andy. But… are you really okay with what you just said?”
Andy chuckled softly, “Don’t worry about it, Jason. Sometimes people need a little push to see things clearly.”
Sun Yujie smiled weakly. “Yeah, maybe you’re right.”
As they made their way out of the venue, Su Bin couldn’t help but feel a little relieved that the confrontation hadn’t escalated further. However, he knew that the situation between Sun Yujie and Cheng Ang was far from resolved. And with Andy now in the picture, things were bound to get even more complicated.
