Chapter 3

Not wanting to go back to his family home or open a hotel, Wei Yuhuan had to go to the company.

Huan Yu Group has ten floors of office space in a landmark skyscraper in the busiest area of S City.

In this commercial building that is almost always powered, Wei Yuhuan enjoys a 200-square-meter office with a loft height that comes with partitions. He can take a shower and rest upstairs, and hold meetings and work downstairs. When he is busy, he even stays here.

Yang, the receptionist in the CEO’s office area, was surprised to see him: “Mr. Wei, why are you here? Aren’t you on vacation?”

After finishing the business in the United States, Wei Yuhuan took a ten-day vacation for himself, which was known here.

Wei Yuhuan, of course, couldn’t say that he had nowhere else to go. He just nodded at her and said, “I have something to deal with.”

As soon as he put down the car key, Yang brought him a cup of tea and asked, “Is Li not here?”

“She’s on vacation,” Wei Yuhuan snorted. After a couple of seconds, he saw the girl still standing there and asked, “Is there something you need?”

Glancing at her watch, she hesitated and said, “Does Mr. Wei need anything?”

Wei Yuhuan realized what she meant and smiled, “It’s almost quitting time, right? You can go. Oh, by the way, when you leave, remember to notify the company’s security guard on duty that I’ll be here tonight.”

Although the company is definitely safe, there are often teams working overtime downstairs to meet project deadlines. After the incident at the Chunjiang Huajing Garden, Wei Yuhuan still felt a little uneasy.

Yang replied with a sound and happily went out.

Wei Yuhuan just inserted the USB flash drive given by the security company into the computer, and his phone rang.

He glanced at it and saw that it was Lou Ze’s agent calling.

Ignoring it, Wei Yuhuan patiently installed the real-time monitoring software. There were five cameras, each with a different angle facing the front entrance, living room, kitchen and dining table, bedroom, bathroom, and the entire south-facing balcony.

Once the footage was successfully displayed, Wei Yuhuan’s mouth curled up into a foxy smile.

At the same time, Lou Ze’s agent called again, persistently. Wei Yuhuan finally answered lazily, “Hello.”

“Mr. Wei, you finally answered the phone!” A voice filled with complex emotions such as surprise, panic, nervousness, and remorse came out of the speaker. “I’m so sorry. I just found out about Lou Ze’s situation. I have scolded him! Lou Ze was just a little confused. Well, I can’t say that. The truth is, you haven’t been in China for the past six months, and he’s been feeling a little lonely. When you caught them together last night, Lou Ze was quite panicked. He thought about it all night and was out of sorts today. He just told me that he doesn’t feel comfortable continuing to follow you after being seen like that…”

Perhaps Wei Yuhuan was still angry about the incident at the Chunjiang Huajing Garden
during the day, but he didn’t have much of a temper towards Lou Ze. After all, they had also shared many romantic moments together, and he still had some affection for him, thinking that they could part amicably.

Wei Yuhuan calmly said, “The terms were agreed upon between me and Xiao Ze, so since this is his choice, he should be aware of the consequences.”

It’s just that people, one moment you’re all lovey-dovey with them, but just half a year later, they cheat on you because they’re “lonely.”

So, what is love based on?

If time and distance can easily erode everything, then what is the value of love that many people desperately seek?

“Yes, yes, Mr. Wei, you’re a magnanimous person. I’ll have Lou Ze move out of your villa as soon as possible!” The agent apologized and thanked him again, but continued to talk on the phone, talking for a while before getting to the point. “Mr. Wei, when do you have time? I’ll treat you to a meal. I also brought a few new people, they are all very beautiful, kind-hearted and obedient. When the time comes, you can take a look and see if there’s anyone you like. How about it?”

Wei Yuhuan couldn’t help but laugh after hearing this. “Ha, do you really think I’m a professional prostitute?” They said that meeting Lou Ze was a coincidence, and it had nothing to do with pure monetary transactions.

Moreover, even if he did want to “hire,” wouldn’t Wei Yuhuan just ask his brother for someone?

Wei Hengtian, the boss of Tianhuan Media, controlled half of the entertainment industry in China. If Wei Yuhuan wanted a certain type of beauty, it wouldn’t be a problem with just a word. When would it be this small Eastern Entertainment Company’s agent’s turn to self-produce and self-sell in front of him? Did they really think he was a fool with too much money?

However, it’s not easy to blame the agent. After all, few people outside knew that Wei Yuhuan was Wei Hengtian’s younger brother.

“I don’t have time to deal with Lou Ze’s affairs, but my relationship with him is over because of this. As for your subordinates, I have no interest in them. You should find another backer.” With no mercy, Wei Yuhuan hung up the phone.

Glancing at the empty room on the monitor, Wei Yuhuan spun his chair around aimlessly and gazed out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the sky filled with the evening glow.

It was already after work hours, and the entire city was enveloped in the sunset. The soundproofing in the office was excellent, and Wei Yuhuan couldn’t hear the outside noises, but he could see the crowds of people rushing out of buildings like fish, disappearing into the streets and alleys.

Everyone seemed to have a destination, hurrying back and forth.

But where were they all rushing to?

After a moment of silence, Wei Yuhuan sighed and shook off his self-pity, standing up to head upstairs for a shower.

He was casual in his dress, unlike his older brother, who would rather not wear a pair of shoes if there was even the slightest color difference. Since he became independent, he had become even more so, besides the roomful of high-end bespoke clothing that he couldn’t tell the difference between, he also had a personal stylist for pairing, which made his older brother completely unable to tolerate long business trips, as he couldn’t bring enough clothes.

Wei Yuhuan could wear bespoke clothing and also wear Uniqlo. He could act as a domineering CEO or a refined and elegant gentleman.

Therefore, he had no fixed residence or place to stay.

Before, Wei Yuhuan used to stay at his family’s house for most of the time, where most of his personal items were kept and taken care of by the maids. However, ever since his grandmother started to frequently urge him to get married, he had become a bit annoyed and began to look for places to stay outside.

He had bought three or four houses in S City, all for hiding his lover. He used to consider himself a playboy, but tonight, Wei Yuhuan began to think about whether he should have a decent place to live in case he found himself in this situation again.

No…

Wei Yuhuan tilted his head back, frowning at the foam on top of his head.

More than a residence, what he really wanted was a lover he could rely on, who wouldn’t abandon him. He seemed to be a bit tired of this floating, indecisive love life.

When this thought came to mind, Wei Yuhuan was startled.

Because for the previous thirty years, he had always followed the belief of “enjoy life while you can” and never intended to settle down.

Wei Yuhuan smiled bitterly, it seemed that regardless of how society developed and how open-minded people became, the traditional Chinese concept of fortune telling, summarized by the ancestors, still had a profound impact on every Chinese person.

Thirty years old – it seemed like a turning point in life.

After showering, Wei Yuhuan went downstairs. The sky outside had become darker, and the room on the monitor was still and silent.

He leaned back in his CEO chair and made a phone call to his friend.

This person’s name was Qi Muying, who was Wei Yuhuan’s classmate in the MBA program in the UK.

However, Qi Muying returned to China three years after Wei Yuhuan and, after completing his PhD, took up an idle position as a teacher at J University, where he would occasionally dabble in the stock market.

His personality was similar to Wei Yuhuan’s, and it was him who had invited him to speak at J University’s conference a year ago.

The two of them had not been in contact for a while, and when the phone was connected, they chatted about various things, and eventually brought up Cong Yuan, since Wei Yuhuan’s relationship with Cong Yuan was not unrelated to Qi Muying.

“I just don’t understand why he broke up with me. When it comes to life experience, I don’t know how much more I have than him; when it comes to business skills, I could teach him myself; and when it comes to bedroom experience, not to mention, that night I made him climax three times in a row, and in the end he was begging for mercy while crying! And on top of that, I care so much about him. What’s not to be satisfied about?”

This matter had been discussed between Wei Yuhuan and Cong Yuan after he was dumped. At that time, Qi Muying had even made fun of him. But now, talking about it again, Qi Muying couldn’t laugh anymore and instead felt a little sorry for Wei Yuhuan.

“Please, count how many lovers you have had outside. He is a young college student in his early twenties who hasn’t experienced much yet and is proud of himself. If he could accept your promiscuous private life, then I would find it strange! ”

Wei Yuhuan felt that this accusation was unfair. Not to mention whether Cong Yuan knew about his other lovers or his current miserable emotional state, just based on the last sentence:

“Hey, what do you mean by promiscuity? This is a multitasking and efficient way of handling relationships to choose the most suitable partner to spend a lifetime with! Men have an active sexual period of three to four decades. I’m already thirty, and half of it has passed. Can I not make the most of my time? Besides, my old man had more lovers than me when he was my age! ”

Qi Muying was speechless. The Wei family was really a case of the apple not falling far from the tree!

He felt that there was no need to comfort such a friend with distorted values. His current predicament was the best lesson for him, and he would probably “learn his lesson” when he had enough of his mistakes.

Wei Yuhuan didn’t expect any consolation from Qi Muying anyway. He just wanted to vent his negative emotions by complaining.

“Do you remember the house I bought for Cong Yuan? Speaking of which, I had an annoying encounter today.” Wei Yuhuan remembered the thief and briefly recounted the incident to Qi Muying, omitting the part where he stupidly called Cong Yuan.

Qi Muying was also surprised and said, “What kind of person breaks into a private residence and then just lives there?”

“It’s like, if we could catch him, we could sentence him for a year or so,” Wei Yuhuan sneered, glancing at the screen to not miss any movement, while also telling Qi Muying about his plan to set up a camera and catch the thief in the act.

Qi Muying chuckled. “Seems like you’re really bored, with nothing better to do.”

Wei Yuhuan joked, “The night is long, and loneliness is hard to bear. I can only pass the time with this little thief.”

But he couldn’t predict when the thief would show up. Wei Yuhuan was feeling restless, like a cat scratching at his nerves.

Qi Muying paused and said, “I don’t think it’s appropriate to call him a ‘thief.’ After all, he didn’t steal or rob anyone. He just sneaked in and lived there while the owner was away.”

This action reminded him of a type of animal that uses a snail shell as its home. The animal often eats soft-bodied creatures and takes over their shells, known as the “hermit crab,” also called the “house white shrimp.”

As soon as he told Wei Yuhuan about this, he immediately felt that this term was more fitting than calling the thief a bird occupying a magpie’s nest.

Just as they were talking, one of the rooms on the monitor suddenly lit up!

Wei Yuhuan immediately sat up and his eyes sparkled. “Hey, the little crab has finally come!”
