Chapter 49

Later in the afternoon, the executives of Yong Xing Group gathered and took a bus to the airport to return to Zhugang City. Some executives were picked up by drivers at the airport, while others who came by car returned to Yong Xing Building.

After getting off the bus, Shao Guangjie called out to Lin Yushu, “Where do you live? I’ll give you a ride.”

Lin Yushu was somewhat surprised. He thought that after the events of the previous night, Shao Guangjie wouldn’t approach him again.

“No need, President Shao,” Lin Yushu replied politely, “I drove here.”

In fact, it was Song Qiming who drove.

Coincidentally, Song Qiming also got off the bus and glanced at the two of them without saying a word.

“In that case, let’s park in the parking lot,” Shao Guangjie said as he took out his car keys from his pocket, insisting, “My car is parked on the ground floor.”

Shao Guangjie’s car was a Yong Xing SUV, a luxury car costing around two million, enough to be impressive but not overly conspicuous.

“Wouldn’t it be too much trouble?” Lin Yushu stood still, holding his luggage, expressing reluctance to accept.

“There are some things I want to talk to you about,” Shao Guangjie said calmly. “Besides, we need to clear up some misunderstandings between us.”

His attitude was no longer as frivolous as before, as if he had returned to the professional interaction between colleagues, carefully managing the situation.

Just after being warned by Shao Hedong, Lin Yushu couldn’t completely disregard his face, so he could only say, “Then I’ll trouble President Shao.”

After putting the suitcase in the trunk, Lin Yushu took out his phone and was about to send a message to Song Qiming when suddenly someone appeared beside him and placed the suitcase in the SUV’s trunk.

Lin Yushu looked at Song Qiming and asked, “?”

“Get in the car.” Song Qiming pressed the automatic lock button on the trunk and led Lin Yushu to the car door.

He himself took the front passenger seat, leaving Lin Yushu with no choice but to sit in the back seat.

“Song Qiming?” Shao Guangjie, who had just fastened his seatbelt, looked displeased when he saw the person next to him and furrowed his brow. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m hitching a ride,” Song Qiming adjusted his sitting position and settled his long legs.

“I have something to discuss with Manager Lin,” Shao Guangjie’s forehead veins throbbed slightly. He seemed ready to refuse to drive if Song Qiming didn’t get out of the car.

“What do you want to talk about? Is it about me?” Song Qiming looked at Shao Guangjie calmly. “I thought only primary school students talked behind people’s backs.”

“You…” Shao Guangjie was momentarily speechless because it was clear that the topic he wanted to discuss with Lin Yushu was related to Song Qiming.

Lin Yushu lowered his head and pursed his lips, trying to hold back his laughter.

How come he didn’t realize before that a German could be so infuriating when speaking Chinese?

“President Shao,” Lin Yushu adjusted his expression and asked, “Do you want me to drive?”

There was an unwritten rule in the workplace that subordinates shouldn’t treat their superiors as drivers.

It was okay for Shao Guangjie to invite Lin Yushu for a ride, but the situation changed when Song Qiming joined in. It felt off because now Shao Guangjie would become the driver.

But on the other hand, to change drivers just for this matter seemed overly particular.

Shao Guangjie probably couldn’t explode in anger, so he finally shifted to reverse gear and, with a dark face, said, “No need.”

Lin Yushu didn’t provide the exact name of his residential complex, just giving a rough intersection.

On the day the vacation ended, the evening traffic was particularly congested. What was supposed to be a twenty-minute drive ended up taking half an hour, and they were still stuck in traffic.

Another red light appeared ahead, causing the traffic to come to a halt again. Not sure if he had finally gotten used to Song Qiming’s presence, Shao Guangjie turned slightly, looking at Lin Yushu beside him, and said, “About last night…”

Lin Yushu offered a perfunctory response, “I didn’t take it to heart.”

“That’s for the best.” Shao Guangjie turned his gaze back to the front and continued, “Misunderstandings among colleagues are normal. If I did anything wrong, I apologize to you. Anyway, let’s not let it affect our work.”

Clearly trained as the heir of the Shao family, although he lacked in ability, he was adept at putting up appearances.

If it weren’t for Lin Yushu knowing Shao Guangjie’s true nature, he probably would have thought of him just like the ordinary Yong Xing employees did – gentle and gentlemanly.

Lin Yushu didn’t immediately respond. Subconsciously, he glanced at Song Qiming’s reaction in the front seat.

He saw Song Qiming resting his right elbow on the window sill, supporting his head with the back of his hand, tilting his head to look at Shao Guangjie.

If Lin Yushu’s guess wasn’t wrong, there should be an expression of “start your performance” on his face.

As expected, feeling Song Qiming’s gaze, Shao Guangjie’s eyebrows furrowed and he asked in a displeased tone, “What are you looking at? Where are you getting off?”

Song Qiming didn’t answer. Instead, he lifted his chin slightly, pointing to the space in front of the car’s hood, which was empty, “Are you leaving so much space for others to cut in?”

In the short half-hour ride, this was already the third time that Song Qiming had guided Shao Guangjie’s driving.

The first time was when Shao Guangjie didn’t yield to pedestrians, and the second time was when he occupied two lanes. These were legitimate points, but probably no one usually criticized him for it.

Shao Guangjie was clearly fed up, abandoning his gentlemanly facade, and asked angrily as he stepped on the accelerator to close the gap with the car in front of them, “Are you trying to mess with me recently?”

He finally asked.

Lin Yushu knew that Shao Guangjie wanted to give him a ride to talk about this matter.

Although this matter has been brought to light, it’s uncertain who is leading it and who is involved on Shao Guangjie’s side.

“Is someone trying to get you?” Song Qiming still had his head tilted, lazily asking.

“Don’t play innocent with me, I know it’s you,” Shao Guangjie toned down his anger, regaining his composure, “I’m warning you, the board of directors isn’t a joke. You need 8 votes to remove me, which is impossible, you understand?”

Song Qiming stopped pretending too, straightening his twisted posture, sitting properly against the backrest, “Are you so certain that those four people will support you?”

“Of course.” Shao Guangjie had a somewhat amused expression, “One is my dad, one is my dad’s buddy, and the other two are my mom’s relatives. Do you think they would be crazy enough to support you?”

Shao Guangjie’s parents were also part of a business alliance, but his mother’s side’s company had already declined. Capable relatives on her side had entered Yong Xing.

“But don’t forget,” Song Qiming brought his gaze back, saying calmly, “Apart from maintaining your four supporters, the other seven directors support removing you.”

Shao Hedong and Shao Hexu had received reliable information; all four external directors were inclined to remove Shao Guangjie.

As for Fang Lan, her relationship with Shao Hedong’s couple had already been strained before the divorce. Now, with the addition of the Yu Xiu incident, she felt indebted to Song Qiming, so when he asked for her help, she had no reason to refuse. She promised to vote in favor of the two shares of Fang Tian Real Estate.

At this stage, the battle was about to begin, and as Shao Guangjie had said, the odds were mostly in his favor.

“So what? Are you trying to win against me using psychological tactics?” The road ahead finally became smooth, and Shao Guangjie drove leisurely. “The board of directors doesn’t make decisions based on the number of people. If you don’t even know that, I suggest you stick to your cars and not meddle in the company’s management.”

Song Qiming shifted his gaze back to the window. Lin Yushu knew that he wasn’t showing weakness, but rather exercising patience.

“Do you know the biggest difference between us?” Shao Guangjie continued, “I’m surnamed Shao, and you’re surnamed Song. That determines a lot of things.”

Song Qiming didn’t respond further, and Shao Guangjie emerged as the victor in this exchange.

They soon reached the intersection designated by Lin Yushu. Shao Guangjie slowly parked the car by the side of the road and turned to Lin Yushu, saying, “Think about what I just said. You still have a chance to make a different choice.”

His attitude had returned to its initial calm and composure, as if his previous arrogance had never existed.

Lin Yushu nodded and said, “Okay,Presidentl Shao,” then got out of the car to retrieve his luggage from the trunk.

He was wondering where Song Qiming would get off when he saw him also stepping out of the car.

“Do you live nearby too?” Shao Guangjie immediately got out of the driver’s seat and looked at Song Qiming.

“No,” Song Qiming retrieved a suitcase from the trunk without changing his expression, “I also have something to discuss with CEO Lin.”

Afterward, he turned to Lin Yushu and said, “Let’s go.”

Lin Yushu nodded, and the two of them walked in the opposite direction of the car.

Shao Guangjie, who had just managed to calm down, was now furious again. He yelled at Song Qiming’s back, “Are you fucking a primary school student?!”

—Only primary school students talk bad about others behind their backs.

Just as Song Qiming had mocked Shao Guangjie, he led Lin Yushu away as soon as he turned around.

The two of them walked for about ten minutes and returned to the residential complex.

Shao Guangjie didn’t follow, but to be honest, Lin Yushu didn’t care.

Red lanterns hung in the residential complex, and a banner at the main entrance read “Congratulations to all residents, Happy New Year.”

In just over ten days, it would be the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), but with the upcoming board meeting, Lin Yushu found it difficult to focus on the festive atmosphere.

“Are you worried?” The internal road of the residential complex was deserted as Song Qiming held Lin Yushu’s hand.

January was the coldest time of the year, but Song Qiming’s palm was warm, dispelling the chill around them.

“Shao Guangjie’s words did affect my state of mind,” Lin Yushu replied.

“What about the part where he mentioned my surname?” Song Qiming asked.

“Yes.”

The key to the plan was to prevent the old master from intervening, but Shao Guangjie reminded them that he was the biological grandson, while Song Qiming was only the adopted grandson.

“There’s still a way out now,” Song Qiming said. “I will go to Jingxin Villa tomorrow and see what Grandfather means.”

“I also need to find time to go,” Lin Yushu said. “Whether we can succeed or not depends on this.”

The two of them entered the residential building. The high-end complex’s elevator was always on standby on the ground floor and automatically opened when it sensed residents entering the building.

Since there were surveillance cameras in the corridor, the two temporarily released their hands.

“Do you have any plans for the Spring Festival?” Song Qiming supported Lin Yushu’s back and let him enter the elevator first.

“Not really,” Lin Yushu pressed the elevator button. “Just going home to celebrate the New Year.”

Lin Yushu didn’t have many relatives, so the New Year wasn’t as busy for him as it was for others. Most of the time, he stayed at home. Besides, he didn’t like crowded places during the Spring Festival, and even if he had time, he didn’t want to travel during that period.

“Well,” Song Qiming stood beside Lin Yushu, “do you want to go to Germany with me?”

“Germany?” Lin Yushu was surprised.

“Yes, my dad wants to meet you too.”

Lin Yushu had only seen Song Qiming’s mother in videos, so he didn’t expect that Song Qiming’s father would also know about his existence.

Lin Yushu didn’t have any objections to meeting Song Qiming’s family. However, at this crucial moment before the board meeting, he was surprised that Song Qiming was considering introducing him to his parents. It seemed that this CEO Song was still driven by his love-struck brain.

“How should I explain it to my brother?” Lin Yushu asked. “Going to Germany for a vacation during the New Year doesn’t seem like my style.”

“Why can’t you just tell him directly?” Song Qiming wondered. “Doesn’t he already know about us?”

“What do you mean by ‘already’?” Lin Yushu couldn’t help but remind him, “We’ve only been together for less than a month.”

“But we’re already together,” Song Qiming furrowed his brows slightly, “Shouldn’t we inform our families about this?”

The difference in their upbringing caused them to have different perspectives and control over the pace of their relationship, just like their previous disagreements during their dates.

“Song Qiming,” Lin Yushu said seriously, “You know I’m quite traditional. I need time for this kind of thing.”

Song Qiming was not someone who was difficult to communicate with. As long as Lin Yushu explained her reasoning, he would understand.

But even though he could understand, it didn’t mean he wasn’t upset. Sometimes, he needed to be appeased.

“Fine,” he said, “If you call me ‘baby,’ then we’ll forget about this matter.”

At that moment, the elevator arrived at their floor, and Lin Yushu walked out with his suitcase. “No, it’s too cheesy.”

“No, you’ve already called me that before. How is it cheesy?” Song Qiming followed right behind himr.

The sound of barking came from their apartment, indicating that Wowo had recognized their voices.

Wowo had been taken care of by the property caretaker during these days, and its barking probably contained a lot of foul language.

Lin Yushu opened the door to Song Qiming’s apartment, and the grey-black figure immediately rushed out, circling around Lin Yushu.

Lin Yushu crouched down, rubbing Wowo’s head. “Baby, did you miss me?”

Wowo: “Ao Ao!”

Song Qiming: “?”

“Who is really your husband?”
