Chapter 1

On the eastside of Seven Middle School, there is an alley that is long and narrow, rarely travelled by people, and it’s a place where “incidents” frequently occur.

For example, at this moment, after Lin Xiaoran finished his evening self-study, he was riding his bike to take a shortcut home when he was blocked by three Alpha boys in this alley.

At the same time, Gu Yang, who was also taking a shortcut, was just coming out of school, and when he saw this scene, he seemed quite interested. He leisurely sat on the wall, waiting for the show to begin.

Following him, Chen Hongqiang climbed up and glanced down, instantly shocked, “Oh my, is the rumor true?”

“What rumor?” Gu Yang asked.

“Our genius Lin supposedly snatched O from Chunfeng’s school bully Guan Jun. They say that O is the school beauty of Chunfeng, and Guan Jun used a lot of means to win her over. But our genius Lin went to their school for a maths competition, made a brief appearance, and O immediately shifted her affections and demanded to break up with Guan Jun. Guan Jun not only lost his love but also lost face, and he threatened to ruin our genius Lin.”

“That’s quite something,” Gu Yang casually commented, unable to tell if he meant it or not.

Chen Hongqiang knew that he didn’t think highly of Lin Xiaoran.

“But, coming back to this, isn’t this our territory, Seven Middle School? If Guan Jun starts a fight here, shouldn’t we do something about it? If word gets out, Yang Ge, your reputation will be at stake. I can’t imagine Lin Xiaoran, the goody-two-shoes, has ever been in a fight in his life. If they really come to blows, he’ll end up on the ground in no time…”

Before he could finish his sentence, the model student Lin Xiaoran kicked Guan Jun in the stomach.

“Ouch!” Chen Hongqiang instinctively covered his own stomach and looked at Gu Yang. “Wow, that kick looked really painful.”

Gu Yang didn’t say anything, he just stared at Lin Xiaoran. He was somewhat surprised that Lin Xiaoran, the bookworm, was so hot-tempered and could stand up to three guys so confidently.

Below, Guan Jun was already writhing in pain, holding his stomach, and his two friends had long been lying on the ground, moaning in agony.

Lin Xiaoran had a bit of a bruise, and there was blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, but he stood tall under the streetlight, with a calm look on his face, and asked Guan Jun, “Do you want more?”

His voice was clear and composed.

Guan Jun: “…”

What do you think? I can’t even stand up; why would I want to continue?

Who the hell said that Lin Xiaoran was just a bookworm with no strength? He’s definitely heard the rumors. He’ll make sure to put that person in their place.

At this moment, a phone call broke the awkward atmosphere.

Lin Xiaoran walked over, picked up his glasses, which he had thrown on his bag earlier, and started searching for his phone.

Suddenly, he seemed to sense something, turned back, and his gaze fell sharply on Gu Yang.

Gu Yang and his friends were not far from them, just behind the streetlight, hidden in the shadows. The lighting was poor, and after the heated scuffle earlier, no one paid any attention to them. Everything had returned to normal by now, and Lin Xiaoran could see them clearly.

Lin Xiaoran’s narrow eyes darted as he glanced sideways at Gu Yang, his sharp gaze at the corner of his eye, with a distinct fierceness.

Under the dim streetlight, his face was pale, devoid of any color, creating a strong contrast with the fresh blood at the corner of his mouth.

Chen Hongqiang suddenly felt a chill, and he couldn’t help but shrink his neck.

But Gu Yang, who was still being stared at by Lin Xiaoran, maintained a nonchalant expression, leaped off the wall and approached Lin Xiaoran. He greeted him with a casual, “Hey, what a coincidence.”

His attitude was so natural that it seemed like he was just passing by and had no intention of watching Lin Xiaoran get beaten up.

Chen Hongqiang couldn’t help but look at him with admiration. This was the real deal, not feeling guilty even when caught red-handed.

Lin Xiaoran’s gaze swept over Gu Yang as he looked at him, and with a faint trace of contempt in his voice, he said, “Busybody.”

Gu Yang shrugged his shoulders and smiled lazily, “Don’t say that. We’re all classmates; we should help each other.”

Tsk! Pretentious. Lin Xiaoran gave him a sidelong glance and then pedaled away on his bike.

Meanwhile, Guan Jun had witnessed the whole scene. He had been severely beaten up by two people in one night, and he couldn’t have been more humiliated.

Although Gu Yang and Guan Jun had never fought or even interacted with each other, they both knew about each other. One was the top dog at Seven Middle School, and the other was the school bully at Chunfeng. The two schools were not far apart, and there was always a sense of competition between them.

Now, in front of Gu Yang, he had been beaten up and made to look like a fool. Where could he possibly save face in the future?

With these thoughts in mind, anger welled up inside Guan Jun. Coincidentally, there was a stack of bricks lying nearby. He grabbed the back of Lin Xiaoran’s bike with one hand and picked up a brick with the other, ready to smash it over Lin Xiaoran’s head.

Lin Xiaoran’s eyes flashed with a cold light as he turned back, intending to grab Guan Jun’s wrist, only to find that someone had beaten him to it. His hand was gripping Guan Jun’s wrist, but it was Gu Yang’s large hand that had almost twisted Guan Jun’s wrist out of shape, causing the brick to fall to the ground.

Lin Xiaoran looked at Gu Yang, his gaze sharp and icy, and said, “Meddlesome.” His voice was cold and clear.

Gu Yang turned to look at him, but remained silent. His lips, usually smiling, were tightly sealed.

Chen Hongqiang couldn’t help but shrink his neck again. Gu Yang was not to be messed with, especially when he was smiling. But it was even worse when he wasn’t smiling.

But then, Gu Yang suddenly started to smile again, with a hint of mockery in his tone. “Three against one, and you resort to sneak attacks, and you still have the nerve to be defiant? How’s your face?” After that, he disdainfully let go of Guan Jun and casually said, “Get lost.”

After being beaten by two people in one night, where could he possibly find any face left?

But Guan Jun knew that dragging this out further would not help him regain any face, so he glared at Gu Yang with a fierce look, leaving behind a harsh threat, “You all wait for me!” After that, he limped away with his two lackeys, his miserable figure resembling a defeated dog.

Chen Hongqiang couldn’t help but flip him off and taunt, “Look at you, with this kind of attitude, you still dare to talk tough? You really have no face left!”

Gu Yang obviously had no interest in dealing with a beaten dog. He continued walking with his hands in his pockets, appearing somewhat casual.

Chen Hongqiang quickly caught up with him, looking a bit excited, “I never expected you to actually take action, Yang Ge. Weren’t you looking down on Lin Xiaoran? I thought you were secretly hoping to see him get beaten up. But in the end, we are classmates, so helping out is the right thing to do.”

Gu Yang casually replied, “Who said I wasn’t?” He reached into his pocket with his right hand and brought it up to smell.

It wasn’t his imagination. The place Lin Xiaoran had grabbed earlier emitted a faint scent of lychee, sweet and sticky.

Chen Hongqiang continued, “Honestly, Yang Ge, I have a new level of respect for Lin Xiaoran tonight. As an Alpha, he usually doesn’t hang out with us Betas. He’s no good at basketball, no good at soccer, and recently, he even skipped physical education class. If it weren’t for his height, I’d suspect he’s an Omega.”
