Chapter 2

Lin Xiaoran arrived home after 11.

As soon as Lin Lan entered the house, she immediately approached him to check his wound. Her beautiful eyebrows knitted with concern, and she said, ‘Oh, it’s so severe! Quickly, sit down, and I’ll apply some medicine for you. Our Ran Ran is so pretty; we mustn’t let a scar be left behind.’

She applied iodine as she spoke.

Sitting there, Lin Xiaoran allowed her to fuss over him, looking obedient. Only when he heard the word ‘pretty’ did he subtly purse his lips, indicating his displeasure.

After applying the medicine, he picked up his school bag and went back to his room, where he collapsed on the bed.

The ceiling light made him dizzy. He turned over restlessly, feeling his heart still irregularly beating beneath the flesh and bones, influenced by Alpha pheromones.

He knew this wasn’t a result of a fight; it was the influence of Alpha pheromones.

After a while, he sat up impatiently and said, ‘So annoying!’

Then he got up and sat at the desk, taking out his homework.

Lin Lan knocked on the door and entered with cold noodles and milk. She immediately frowned upon seeing the situation, but her tone remained gentle, with a touch of southern charm: ‘You’re injured, and you’re still doing homework? Stop it, eat something, take a shower, and go to bed. Your teachers… this is the age when you should be growing, and they keep giving you so much homework. You don’t have to do it. If the teacher asks you, just say your mom wouldn’t allow it, and let them come to me.’

Saying this, she took Lin Xiaoran’s homework and placed the cold noodles in front of him.

Lin Xiaoran: ‘…’

He was never very talkative, especially not with his mother, whose thought processes he couldn’t quite follow. He decided to eat the noodles.

Lin Lan sat down by the bedside, smiling as she watched him eat. When he had eaten enough, she tentatively asked, ‘Ran Ran, how do you feel about what I told you a few days ago?’

A few days ago, Lin Lan came home from work and told Lin Xiaoran that the TV station was sending her abroad for several months for training. She was worried about leaving Lin Xiaoran alone at home and said living in the school dormitory wasn’t a good idea. She wanted Lin Xiaoran to stay at Gu Xiuyuan’s house.

‘Okay.’

Lin Xiaoran hadn’t really thought much about it, but he had met Gu Xiuyuan a few times and thought he was a nice guy. Lin Lan being with him was something Lin Xiaoran didn’t object to.

He actually thought Lin Lan should find someone.

‘Alright then! Tomorrow is the weekend, so you don’t have evening self-study. After school, I’ll take you over. The auntie who cooks at Uncle Gu’s house is an excellent chef; you’ll definitely like her food. Oh, by the way, did I forget to tell you that Uncle Gu also has a son, about your age, also a senior in high school. You’ll have plenty to talk about.’

Her son’s quick acceptance visibly relieved Lin Lan, and with a better mood, she had plenty to say.

Lin Xiaoran barely paid attention to what she said. He was a man of few words, and he had even fewer words for his mother. Mainly because his mother had a unique way of thinking that he couldn’t quite keep up with. He decided to eat the noodles.

After he finished two sets of questions, it was almost early morning.

He collected his homework, opened his computer, and logged into the online game “Seventh World.” He ignored various messages, went straight to his friends’ list, found a gray profile picture – Autumn Times, and sent a message: ‘Are you there? Arena.’

After sending the message, he went to take a shower, and when he came out, the other person had already replied: ‘It’s too late today, let’s do it tomorrow. Why are you online so late every day?’

He didn’t respond, just closed the game and tossed the towel, collapsing on the bed with his still wet hair.

After the morning self-study, the senior high school Class 3 was no different from other classes, lively and noisy.

Suddenly, Guan Yuankai came in mysteriously, saying, ‘I’ve got some hot news. Anyone interested?’

In almost every class, there was a lively and gossipy student with decent academic performance, and Guan Yuankai was the gossipy one in Class 1.

‘Just spill it, why keep us in suspense?’

‘Hurry up, I need to go to the restroom.’

Among the gossip-loving comrades, Guan Yuankai wasn’t one to hold back. He raised his phone and spoke slowly, ‘Guan Jun got beaten up!’

‘Guan Jun, the tough guy?’

‘Isn’t he known for being good at fighting? And he has a bunch of henchmen. How did he get into trouble?’

Guan Jun lived close to Seven High School, and he was quite famous for being a show-off there. Guan Yuankai’s gossip immediately caught the attention of everyone.

Sitting in the front row, several classmates became curious.
