Chapter 23
After returning to P City, the temperature dropped in the north within a few days. The campus of P University was covered with golden ginkgo leaves, becoming one of the unique landscapes of P University every year.
After Lin Lu handed over the job intention information form to Tang Yi’s office, he walked home stepping on the ginkgo leaves, thinking back to what Old Tang had said to him earlier.
“You’re really interning at Xue Wensong’s company? You must have nothing else to do.”
Of course, Lin Lu didn’t actually intern at Xue Wensong’s company. But for graduates who didn’t take the postgraduate entrance exam and didn’t find a job in their field, they always needed an excuse to evade school inquiries.
Apart from that, he also needed to deceive his family.
Just a couple of days ago, his family called, inquiring about Lin Lu’s plans regarding Xue Wensong’s project. Lin Lu naturally feigned ignorance. However, Qin Zhenguo’s tone changed immediately, urging Lin Lu to find a way to intern at Xue Wensong’s company.
Lin Lu told Xue Wensong about this matter, but Xue Wensong’s expression remained unchanged. He simply asked Lin Lu if he wanted to work at his company.
“What would I do there?” Lin Lu asked.
Xue Wensong pondered for a moment before smiling, “…As a mascot.”
The little deer was not pleased. He felt that although he might be useless, he wasn’t that useless.
Xue Wensong rubbed his head, “Just tell your family that you’ve started your internship here. Whether you actually come or not is up to you.”
Lin Lu thought about it. Since his family wouldn’t check anyway, he told them that he had successfully entered Xue Wensong’s company.
For some reason, he suddenly felt like he had taken on the role of a spy, which he found amusing.
Lin Lu asked, “What if someday my family wants me to break up with you?”
Xue Wensong countered, “What will you do then?”
Lin Lu nestled into Xue Wensong’s embrace.
The vibration from his pocket interrupted Lin Lu’s thoughts. He answered the phone, only to hear his elder brother, Qin Zheyao, ask, “I just went to Xue Wensong’s company. Do you usually spend much time here?”
Lin Lu was startled and quickly said, “I have some things to deal with at school.”
“Hmm, Xue Wensong told me,” Qin Zheyao said. “When you have nothing to do, just stay at the company. Learn from Xue Wensong more.”
“Okay…”
Lin Lu thought for a moment, then turned around and headed to the bus stop.
Lying still made him feel guilty, so he decided to make a trip to Xue Wensong’s company. At the very least, he wanted to memorize the layout of the office in case his family asked him about it next time.
This time, besides Xiao Wang, there was also a girl at the front desk.
As Lin Lu walked in, he saw Xiao Wang teaching the girl how to use the printer.
Upon seeing Lin Lu, Xiao Wang immediately stood up straight and respectfully said, “Hello, boss lady!”
The new girl clearly didn’t understand the situation, but seeing her colleague do so, she also hesitantly addressed Lin Lu as “boss lady.”
Lin Lu blushed. “You don’t need to call me that…”
Avoiding the fiery gazes of the two, he crossed the automatic sensor door and walked into the office.
Compared to before, the office was clearly more lively, with many faces Lin Lu had never seen before. He glanced around and saw Luo Yun walking over, sipping water and looking at documents. Lin Lu waved at him as he approached. “Hey.”
Luo Yun glanced up at him, then promptly sprayed out the water in his mouth.
“Sister-in-law, what are you doing here?”
“I came to take a look,” Lin Lu smiled shyly. “Is Xue Wensong in his office?”
“He is…” Luo Yun looked embarrassed, but Lin Lu didn’t notice. He walked towards Xue Wensong’s office. “I’ll go find him.”
“Wait, sister-in-law.” Luo Yun quickly grabbed Lin Lu. “Let me get you a glass of water. What do you want to drink?”
“It’s really not necessary,” Lin Lu smiled. “I’m just here to take a look.”
“No, no, you must drink some water. The pantry has all kinds of beverages. Let me take you there.”
“I really don’t need it.” Lin Lu smiled, “You go back to work.”
Lin Lu continued walking towards Xue Wensong’s office, while Luo Yun quickly pulled out his phone and sent a message to Xue Wensong: Sister-in-law is here!!!
The phone on the desk vibrated, but it didn’t catch Xue Wensong’s attention. He lazily leaned back in his chair, looking at the person in front of him. “I’ve already said it, I won’t cooperate with you.”
“But as far as I know, you’re still dragging Qin’s family, and you haven’t reached an agreement with them.” Ji Xingye took a step forward, hands propped on the desk. “Xue Wensong, what exactly do you want to do?”
Xue Wensong chuckled lightly, nonchalantly replying, “Just doing business.”
Ji Xingye narrowed his eyes. He hated Xue Wensong’s indifferent attitude the most. Even if he betrayed him, he still appeared indifferent, as if he had never cared about anything.
But he believed that he was special to Xue Wensong.
He circled around the desk, one hand propped on the back of the chair, and sat on his lap without hesitation, saying forcefully, “Xue Wensong, look into my eyes.”
Xue Wensong had said before that he liked Ji Xingye’s eyes.
At that time, he wanted to climb into Xue Wensong’s bed and let him look into his eyes, saying, “Let’s do it.”
But now, Xue Wensong’s expression showed no ripples. He just furrowed his brows and said, “Get up.”
Ji Xingye tightened his grip on the armrests, not moving. “Don’t you like my eyes?”
Xue Wensong’s lips lightly parted. “Do you want to hear the truth?”
Ji Xingye was taken aback. “What?”
Xue Wensong’s lips twitched. “It’s because your eyes resemble someone’s.”
In the next moment, the office door was pushed open, and an unexpected person suddenly appeared at the doorway.
Lin Lu, seeing the intimate posture of the two, was momentarily stunned in place. The next second, he turned around to run, but Xue Wensong’s words suddenly echoed in his mind.
“Don’t run out like this again in the future.”
Yeah, why should he run?
Lin Lu clenched his fists, tightened the straps of his backpack on both sides, walked to the desk, and said to Ji Xingye, “You’re pressing on my husband, please get up.”
A crack appeared in Ji Xingye’s expression, while Xue Wensong chuckled softly.
He turned his face back to its cold expression and spoke without any warmth, “Still not leaving?”
After Ji Xingye left, Lin Lu felt as if he had lost all his strength. He leaned on the desk with one hand, waiting for the dizziness in his head to subside.
Xue Wensong walked over from behind the desk, wanting to hug the brave little deer, but he was pushed away.
Xue Wensong looked surprised. “Baby?”
Lin Lu raised his head, looking aggrieved. “What are you two doing?”
It seemed like the little deer was still angry.
He pinched Lin Lu’s cheek and said, “He came to talk to me about work.”
Lin Lu snorted, clearly not believing this explanation. “Does talking about work require sitting like that?”
Xue Wensong shrugged, deliberately pretending to have a headache. “I have no choice. Your husband is too popular, too many people are eyeing him.”
Lin Lu pursed his lips, feeling even more uncomfortable.
Xue Wensong hugged the pouting little deer into his arms and whispered in his ear, “But they’ll be heartbroken because I only love you.”
Lin Lu didn’t say anything, but his face turned red.
After soothing his husband, Xue Wensong asked, “Why did you come to the company today?”
Lin Lu blinked, then remembered the main business. “My eldest brother came to inspect the post today.”
Xue Wensong said, “I thought you were going to school.”
“Yeah,” Lin Lu nodded, “but just in case, I came to familiarize myself with the surroundings.”
“Okay,” Xue Wensong’s eyes softened, holding Lin Lu’s hand as they walked out.
The three gossiping employees, Luo, Tan, and Song, who were leaning against the door, hurriedly ran down the stairs and mingled into the main office. In no time, the boss and his wife appeared at the top of the stairs.
Xue Wensong clapped his hands by the railing, and all the employees in the main office below immediately stopped what they were doing.
Xue Wensong put his arm around Lin Lu’s waist and rested his hand on the railing, saying, “Let me introduce you. This is my beloved, Lin Lu.”
There was immediately a round of whistling from below.
Lin Lu felt a little embarrassed. He tugged at the hem of Xue Wensong’s clothes, but Xue Wensong continued, “LuLu, say hello to them?”
“I, I…” Lin Lu’s face turned red, not knowing what to say. But the cheering from below was too enthusiastic, and he couldn’t just run away, so he could only stutter, “Hello, I, I’m Xue Wensong’s husband.”
This statement is not wrong, but it caused a burst of whispers.
“Oh my god, the boss turns out to be the bottom?”
“Lin-ge is quite something, can handle a guy like the boss?”
“Height doesn’t represent everything. Maybe our sister-in-law is hiding her true self…”
Lin Lu hurriedly explained, “No, no, I’m the bottom…”
Saying this seemed too embarrassing, so he changed his tune, “No, he’s the top…”
But then he realized that although they had flirted several times, they had never really crossed the line, so he changed his words again, “No, it’s just…”
Xue Wensong, watching his little friend being teased by everyone and turning red, immediately became displeased.
He said in a deep voice, “The proposal due next Friday, change it to Wednesday.”
The office immediately erupted in pleas for mercy.
“Sister-in-law, please control him!”
Lin Lu pursed his lips and empathetically said to the great demon Xue, “Let’s not advance the deadline, submitting things is so difficult.”
Lin, the academic underachiever, always felt uncomfortable before deadlines.
Xue Wensong pinched Lin Lu’s nose tip and spared the group of people below who were wailing like ghosts.
Employee No. 1 whispered to Employee No. 2 next to him, “They say the boss married into the Qin family to make a comeback. But I don’t see it, do you?”
Employee No. 2 lowered his voice, “I find it strange too. Qin Zheyao looked so gloomy when he left this morning, and the boss kept delaying. Is he planning not to cooperate with the Qin family?”
Tan Xiao leaned over from behind and grinned, “Feeling bored?”
“Team leader, we were wrong!”
