Chapter 31

“Speak, what exactly is the plan?” After finding an inn and settling Murong Qiuyun, Murong Qiufeng directly asked. He was running out of patience.

Murong Qiuyun obediently sat on the bed, wrapped in a blanket, with a large red bump on her forehead. Although Murong Qiufeng felt heartache, he had no mood to comfort her at the moment.

Yu Hui sat down opposite Murong Qiufeng and poured a cup of tea, placing it in front of him. “The key to this plan lies with you. As long as you agree, everything will be easy.”

Murong Qiufeng didn’t even glance at the tea, looking coldly at Yu Hui. “Don’t play word games with me. I want to know the specifics.”

Yu Hui raised an eyebrow slightly, secretly admiring him. It seemed this guy wasn’t entirely foolish—quite clever, actually. Unfortunately, he had met the wrong people.

“The plan is simple. You and Qiuyun are twins, identical in every way except gender. Height can be easily adjusted. When the time comes, you just need to disguise yourself as Qiuyun and get into the wedding sedan, giving us enough time to escape.”

“You mean you want me to take her place and marry over there?” Murong Qiufeng’s face turned extremely unpleasant. He placed one hand on the sword on the table, trembling slightly, obviously very angry.

Yu Hui glanced at him, thinking to himself, usually he seemed calm, but it turned out he had such a volatile temper.

“Don’t get angry yet; I haven’t finished. This is just a delay tactic. On the wedding night, when it’s just you and Ye, you can reveal your identity. Ye has a good attitude towards you and seems to see potential in you. He likely won’t turn against you immediately. Besides, I’ll write a letter explaining everything was my plan and that you were all victims. He will understand, even if he’s angry.”

“He won’t make a big scene. After all, airing family scandals would tarnish his reputation. His first move will be to remedy the situation quietly, likely sending people to bring us back. You might bear some of his anger, but I guarantee it won’t be severe. At least, the prime minister’s residence won’t be implicated.”

“This is deception. You want me to deceive him. How is this any different from your current betrayal?” Murong Qiufeng slammed the table and stood up, feeling deeply sorry for Shangguan Ye for having such friends.

Yu Hui raised an eyebrow. “This isn’t betrayal. We are the ones betraying him, not you. Ye is fair and just. If Qiuyun marries him, he will be furious and reckless. But you can buy us some time. I will explain in the letter that it was all my scheme and that you were victims. Ye will believe it.”

“Why are you doing this? Aren’t you friends? How can you betray him so easily?” Such a treacherous person—how could he trust him with Qiuyun?

“Wrong. We aren’t friends, just partners. Allow me to reintroduce myself. I’m Yuwen Hui, the third in my family.” Yu Hui smiled.

Murong Qiufeng was stunned by the shift in topic, then widened his eyes in shock. “Yuwen… You’re from the Yuwen family?”

“Correct.” Yu Hui smiled meaningfully. Seeing Murong Qiufeng’s reaction was quite amusing. Their countries were enemies, yet their commanders, even a prince, were collaborating. He wondered how Murong Qiufeng would process this.

Shangguan Ye, you can’t always be so smug. Time to give you some trouble.

Murong Qiufeng wasn’t suspicious of Shangguan Ye. Instead, he thought if Yuwen Hui was part of the Yuwen royal family, marrying his sister to Ye might indeed leave Ye powerless against them. But what of his sister caught between two enemy nations in the future?

Murong Qiuyun kept her head down, clearly already aware of Yu Hui’s true identity.

Looking from his sister to Yu Hui, Murong Qiufeng felt a severe headache.

Anyone who could collaborate with Shangguan Ye must be formidable. At least, Yuwen Hui’s eloquence surpassed even Ye’s, and his strategic mind was exceptionally sharp. Otherwise, Murong Qiuyun wouldn’t be so tightly controlled by him. This was why Shangguan Ye was confident Murong Qiufeng would ‘marry’ into the palace.

Though adversaries, Shangguan Ye respected Yuwen Hui’s abilities.

Murong Qiufeng was no match for this cunning fox.

Thus, under Yuwen Hui’s deliberate guidance, Murong Qiufeng reluctantly agreed to the plan.

Late at night in the palace, Shangguan Ye held a small note with a few words. His previously cold lips curved slightly, his eyes filled with joy and excitement. The days of socializing and irritation were completely dispelled.

The note contained only a few words: “As you wish.”

His deep, beautiful eyes burned with intensity. Looking out at the moonlight, he thought, not long now—just two more days. In two days, that little one would truly be his.
