Chapter 156
The assistant chuckled awkwardly. “Maybe… it doesn’t necessarily include you. The boss has instructed before that you can enter anytime you come. Why don’t you… go in and have a look?”
Ye Zhi nodded. “Forget it, it wouldn’t be polite. I’ll just wait here.”
The assistant didn’t know what else to say, and the caregivers were reluctant to speak. The room fell silent, so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. When a faint moan came from inside the ward, everyone heard it.
The three people continued to exchange glances, while Ye Zhi seemed oblivious.
After what felt like an eternity, the door to the ward finally opened, breaking the silence outside.
Wen Han walked out, wearing his hat again but not the mask. His clothes were not disheveled, but there was a tear at the corner of his mouth, and even a faint trace of blood could be seen. His eyes were teary, adding to his overwhelming aura, stunning the two caregivers.
Ye Zhi finally looked up from his book and greeted him gently, “Hello.”
Wen Han returned the greeting with equal gentleness, “Hello.” He seemed like he wanted to say something, but Huo Youcheng roared from inside, “Since you’re here, don’t you know to come in first to see me? Why do you always stay outside reading those few books of yours? Are they that good-looking?”
Waiting for someone to push the door open and enter, Huo Youcheng couldn’t hold back his anger again.
Wen Han stopped what he was about to say and whispered softly, “I’ll leave first, goodbye.”
The assistant signaled to the caregivers, and using the excuse of seeing Wen Han off, they all went out.
The room was filled with the scent of pheromones after the release. The closer you got, the stronger it became. Ye Zhi walked in and saw Huo Youcheng’s angry face. He didn’t bother to conceal anything. There were no signs of air freshener or deodorizer in the room, making it clear to Ye Zhi that something intimate had happened between Huo Youcheng and Wen Han.
Huo Youcheng stared at Ye Zhi’s face, trying to find the expression he wanted, but without success. Whether it was disguised or genuine, there was no trace of disturbance on Ye Zhi’s calm face.
Did he really not care about him anymore?
Ye Zhi spoke first, his voice soft, “The exam date is approaching, so I’m studying hard. And you have a guest. The assistant also told me not to disturb, so I didn’t come in.”
Huo Youcheng was furious. “Why do you always use exams as an excuse? Do you just want to become an official? What’s the use of not working? Is the family lacking food or drink without you? Didn’t I transfer ten million to your card?”
He continued angrily, “He said not to disturb you, so you didn’t come in. Don’t you know it was Wen Han who came? Aren’t you worried about what we might be doing inside?”
Ye Zhi lowered his eyelashes and spoke softly, “I can’t stop you from doing what you want, can I?”
“So you don’t care at all now?” Huo Youcheng yelled loudly. “You don’t want me to touch you, you don’t care who I’m intimate with. No matter how hard I try to please you, it’s useless. You simply don’t love me anymore, right?”
Ye Zhi couldn’t argue back. He even wanted to confess at this moment, but when he looked into Huo Youcheng’s eyes, filled with madness, he knew it was not a good time.
He had to wait until his legs were completely healed, so as not to cause Huo Youcheng even more guilt.
So he spoke softly, “Does it matter if I care? I used to… care, but it was all in vain…”
Countless bitter and painful memories flooded back into his mind, the anguish of witnessing his husband’s infidelity, something that those who hadn’t experienced it could never imagine. In a normal relationship, he could still question and get angry, but in this unequal relationship, he didn’t even have the right to ask.
Huo Youcheng’s anger finally subsided, but it turned into a more intense restlessness, and he couldn’t find an outlet for it. “So after all this time, you still haven’t completely forgiven me in your heart? You still see me as the past Huo Youcheng, thinking I might bully you again?”
Ye Zhi whispered, “I still… haven’t been able to change… temporarily…”
Huo Youcheng laughed angrily, “Fine! I’ll prove it to you. I’m different from the past me!”
