Chapter 35

But when he opened the door, he found someone inside.

The Huo family was spacious, with many lights installed: wall lights, ceiling lights, crystal chandeliers. Usually, only the ceiling lights would be on when Ye Zhi was alone at home. However, at this moment, the crystal chandelier was illuminated, casting bright light in the center of the living room, making the figure sitting on the sofa particularly clear.

Ye Zhi’s heart skipped a beat. As Huo Youqiao’s gaze turned towards him, he instinctively bent down to change his slippers while greeting, “Good evening, Big Brother.”

“Good evening.” Huo Youqiao’s voice was deep and magnetic, resonating in the vast space as if echoing. “Did you work overtime today?”

Brief greetings and conversations occurred as they interacted more and more, making them seem less unfamiliar but still not close. Ye Zhi replied, “No, I just went home.”

Huo Youqiao asked, “Have you had dinner?”

Feeling dizzy and nauseous, Ye Zhi naturally had no intention of eating dinner, so he hesitantly replied, “Um.” He changed his shoes slowly, expecting Huo Youqiao to go upstairs soon. However, he noticed no signs of him doing so, so Ye Zhi had no choice but to awkwardly walk towards the kitchen.

Passing by the dining table, Ye Zhi suddenly noticed there were dishes left on it.

They were probably dishes from dinner, covered with plates to keep them warm.

Ye Zhi was stunned for a moment. After a while, he realized that these dishes were probably left for him.

Was it because Huo Youqiao didn’t see him return from work during dinner time, so he specially left them for him? There were days when Ye Zhi returned home late due to business trips, but no one had ever left food for him on the table.

So… was this intentionally left by Huo Youqiao for him?

No wonder he asked if he had eaten.

A warm current flowed through his heart, bringing not pain but a rare sense of warmth. Ye Zhi couldn’t remain indifferent, so he immediately said to the man, “Big Brother, thank you for leaving me dinner.”

Huo Youqiao still had a tablet on his knees and didn’t lift his head. He replied indifferently, “You’re welcome.”

Ye Zhi wrapped the dishes on the table with cling film and put them in the refrigerator. He hadn’t finished when he heard footsteps approaching. Panicked, he waited until the man reached the doorway before he casually used the refrigerator door to shield his face, asking, “Are you going to make coffee? Please put the cup down, and I’ll brew it for you as soon as I finish cleaning up.”

“Thank you.”

The sound of the cup being placed on the table came from the kitchen, but instead of the expected sound of footsteps moving away, they approached him. Soon, Huo Youqiao’s voice resonated near him, sounding somewhat serious, “Why is there blood on your shoulder?”

There had been too much blood on his forehead while he was at the Ye family’s house, some of which had dripped onto his shoulder. Ye Zhi was wearing dark clothes, so he didn’t understand how Huo Youqiao had noticed.

Ye Zhi panicked, intending to find an excuse to evade the question, and he even turned his injured area away from Huo Youqiao’s view. But before he could say “It’s nothing,” his wrist was held by a warm hand. Huo Youqiao turned him around, revealing the gauze with blood seeping from his forehead.

Tall and with a strong presence, Huo Youqiao exuded an imposing aura that rendered Ye Zhi unable to move. Huo Youqiao frowned and asked, “What happened?”

Meeting his gaze, Ye Zhi’s heart trembled. The hand holding his wrist felt as if it were burning, making him feel uncomfortable all over. He lightly struggled but couldn’t break free, so he could only say, “I accidentally… got scratched…”

He couldn’t even believe his own lie.

Huo Youqiao didn’t pursue the matter further. He released Ye Zhi’s wrist and asked, “Did you go to the hospital?”
