Chapter 36
“No, it’s not a big wound.” Ye Zhi lowered his head and gently closed the refrigerator door. “You can go about your business; this small wound won’t bother me.”
“It’s still bleeding.” Huo Youqiao suddenly asked, “Do you want to go to the hospital?”
Ye Zhi quickly shook his head. “There’s no need to go to the hospital.”
“Then I’ll call a doctor.” Huo Youqiao walked out, and Ye Zhi couldn’t stop him in time, so he followed. Huo Youqiao contacted someone using the communicator and then fetched the medical kit. When he turned back and saw Ye Zhi still standing there dazedly, he said, “Sit on the sofa.”
Ye Zhi awkwardly sat down, his tone timid. “There’s no need to trouble you…”
“I’ll help you with some simple treatment first.” Huo Youqiao squatted in front of him, opened the medical kit, and began searching for medication. As he squatted down, Ye Zhi seemed even more awkward, his heart pounding fiercely. He appeared anxious and uneasy, even forgetting the pain in his forehead for a moment.
The maid at the Ye family wasn’t a professional medical staff member, and the wound was roughly bandaged. It hadn’t even been cleaned properly, so soon the wound started bleeding again. Huo Youqiao quickly found what he needed and then looked up, frowning when he saw Ye Zhi standing there blankly. “Sit down on the sofa.”
Ye Zhi sat down nervously, his voice trembling. “There’s no need to bother…”
“I’ll just give you a simple treatment.” Huo Youqiao walked to him and squatted down, opening the medical kit to search for supplies. Ye Zhi was even more jittery, his heart pounding. For a moment, even the pain in his forehead was forgotten.
As Huo Youqiao cleaned the wound, Ye Zhi couldn’t help but shiver when the gauze was removed, causing a brief tremor. He suppressed any sound of pain, even though the pain was intense. Huo Youqiao seemed to notice, and their eyes met. “Is it very painful?”
It was a very gentle tone.
In that instant, an unknown emotion surged in Ye Zhi’s heart, warmth spreading like a spider web from the depths of his heart, creeping through his limbs until it reached his cheeks, making them flush. Ye Zhi stiffened, shaking his head gently. “I can bear it.”
When the gauze was removed, more blood flowed out, revealing the true extent of the wound. Huo Youqiao furrowed his brows. “This wound is quite large; it needs stitches. Using just hemostatic gel won’t be enough.” He used medical cotton to cover Ye Zhi’s wound to stop the bleeding, then pressed on it for a while. Afterward, he let Ye Zhi hold it while he began to clean the bloodstains on Ye Zhi’s face.
They were too close, and even though Ye Zhi tried to avoid him, the scent of blood gradually faded from his nose, replaced by a faint scent of leaves, which was very light but comforting. The man used a cotton swab to clean the blood from Ye Zhi’s face, his movements gentle, his expression serious, as if he were doing something very solemn.
While cleaning around the wound, he would ask, “Does it hurt a lot?”
Ye Zhi dared not look at his face, his eyelashes lowered, his voice soft. “It’s bearable.”
He wasn’t lying. When Huo Youqiao was in front of him, all his pain, dizziness, and nausea miraculously disappeared. His heart beat at a speed that was both slow and fast, making him feel anxious. He couldn’t hear his own breathing, but he could clearly hear the other person’s breathing. Unconsciously, he adjusted his breathing to the same frequency.
It wasn’t until much later that he realized this feeling was palpitation.
The doctor arrived soon after. Ye Zhi had seen him before; he had come to the Huo family to treat Madam Huo. He knew the doctor was from the best hospital in the city center and had a great reputation. It was difficult for ordinary people to get an appointment with him.
Now he had been called by Huo Youqiao with just one phone call, all for the sake of treating his minor wound.
Although the doctor was a little older, his movements were swift, and he brought all the necessary tools. He quickly stitched Ye Zhi’s wound, a total of eight stitches.
Although he used anesthesia, he couldn’t use an injection in the head area, so after the stitches were done, Ye Zhi was still sweating profusely from the pain.
Throughout the process, he bit his lip, his hands clutching his thighs tightly. Even though he trembled with pain all over, not a single groan escaped his lips.
“You can endure quite a lot. No wonder you didn’t want to go to the hospital even with such a large wound.” The doctor smiled and joked, “Are you afraid of getting stitches and leaving scars? Don’t worry; I’m very skilled, and I won’t leave any twisted scars. Besides, this position can also be covered with hair.”
Ye Zhi felt a bit awkward and whispered, “Thank you.”
The doctor said, “Do you still feel dizzy? Nauseous? Was this wound caused by being hit? Was it from being hit with an ashtray? If it was caused by being hit, it’s better to go to the hospital for a brain scan. There might be a mild concussion.”
Ye Zhi didn’t know how to respond, but Huo Youqiao spoke up, “Let’s go to the hospital now.” He was already fetching his coat. Ye Zhi was stunned. “There’s no need. I think I’ll be fine after a night’s rest.”
The doctor said, “Brain issues are no small matter; it’s better to go for a check-up to be safe.”
