Chapter 57
There were less than fifty of these cars in the entire city, so when one appeared here, Ye Zhi couldn’t help but take a couple of extra glances at it.
“Brother Xiao Ye, is that someone you know?” Shen Feiyu, who was walking beside him, asked. The two of them took the loop line together every day. Although they headed in different directions, they would wait for the train together after work. Shen Feiyu felt he was quite familiar with Ye Zhi by now, noticing that Ye Zhi usually showed little interest in anything. Typically, even luxurious cars wouldn’t catch his eye, unlike Shen Feiyu who would envy them. But now, Ye Zhi was staring at a car whose brand wasn’t even recognizable, making Shen Feiyu curious.
Ye Zhi was somewhat nearsighted and initially couldn’t see the license plate clearly, so he was about to shake his head. However, when he saw it clearly, his head stiffened from its initial shake, and then he nodded, “Yes, I know them.”
Shen Feiyu immediately asked, “Is it your husband?” He intentionally lowered his voice.
“No,” Ye Zhi unconsciously took a few steps closer, but before he got too near, someone already stepped out of the car. It was someone Ye Zhi knew well.
It was Lin Xiuming, the secretary of Huo Youqiao.
As the mayor’s secretary, Lin Xiuming held a significant position. Although his presence was often overshadowed by Huo Youqiao, among ordinary people, his upright posture and composed demeanor made him stand out. The expensive suit he wore highlighted his tall, handsome figure, immediately drawing the attention of many passersby.
Shen Feiyu was somewhat stunned, and even more so when he saw Lin Xiuming open the rear door and make a gesture for Ye Zhi to enter.
He noticed another person in the back seat. Although he couldn’t see the person’s face from his angle, the person’s posture and attire exuded a strong presence.
Who could it be?
Before Shen Feiyu could ask, Ye Zhi had already bid him farewell and got into the car. Soon, the car drove out of Shen Feiyu’s sight.
“Why are you here?” Ye Zhi was still a bit surprised.
Huo Youqiao, with a calm expression, replied, “Didn’t you promise Ranran this morning that you’d pick her up? I finished work nearby, so I thought I’d join you. I came to pick you up first.”
Ye Zhi blushed, “Next time, you don’t have to go to the trouble.”
“It’s no trouble.”
With someone else in the car, Ye Zhi didn’t want to talk much, so Huo Youqiao asked him a few questions about his work. Although Ye Zhi found his own job unremarkable, he still tried to say a few things.
When they arrived at the kindergarten, they picked up Huo Ran. Along the way, Huo Ran saw a cake shop and wanted some cake, but Huo Youqiao said, “Cake has too many calories and too much sugar. You had some three days ago, so no cake today.”
He doted on his daughter, but when he was strict, Huo Ran didn’t dare to throw a tantrum. However, as a child, she was still a bit unhappy when she didn’t get what she wanted. Ye Zhi quickly said, “How about I make a cake for you this weekend?”
Huo Ran’s eyes lit up, “Can you make cake, Zhizhi?”
Ye Zhi nodded gently, “I learned how.” He then kindly said to Huo Youqiao, “I’ll use less sugar and choose plant-based cream, adding more fruits to make it healthier. Is that okay?”
Both pairs of eyes looked at him with anticipation, and Huo Youqiao, a bit helpless, told Ye Zhi, “You’re always spoiling her.”
The affection in his tone was evident, even Lin Xiuming, sitting in the front seat, raised his eyebrow slightly. Ye Zhi didn’t notice this as he was busy cheering with Huo Ran. He even made a pinky promise with her, “You’ll help me, right?”
Huo Ran immediately shouted, “I’ll definitely help!”
Ye Zhi then smiled at Huo Youqiao, “This way, we also have an activity for the weekend.”
With Huo Ran around, the car was filled with laughter all the way until they arrived. When the car door opened, Huo Ran was the first to get out, holding Ye Zhi’s hand, while Huo Youqiao followed behind carrying their bags. Ye Zhi and Huo Ran had already planned their evening activities, which included learning to sing the song “Shining Sun”. Ye Zhi’s face was filled with a genuine smile, which froze when he saw Ye Wan’s face as he opened the door.
Ye Wan had dressed meticulously for the occasion. She wore the latest designer outfit, had her hair styled, applied appropriate makeup, and even adorned herself with her most expensive jewelry. She also brought a set of branded children’s toys and an expensive box of tea. After being let in by Aunty Wang, knowing the others hadn’t returned yet, she waited in the living room. After over an hour, she finally saw the people she had been waiting for.
