Chapter 95

Ye Zhi clenched his fists and said, “This situation isn’t my fault. Dad, I gave you all my savings. As for the Huo family’s money… I really can’t get it.”

Ye Wan suddenly spoke, her voice sharp, “That’s because you’re useless!”

Her voice grew more piercing, “I taught you so many ways to win over a man’s heart. And what did you do? Nothing! Useless!” She began to shout, her accusations harsher than ever, targeting not only Ye Zhi but also Zhou Shaohui and even Ye Mu.

Through her tirade against Ye Mu, Ye Zhi learned something startling.

Ye Mu had been recorded in a compromising video.

Ye Zhi didn’t know the details, but he learned that someone had broadcast it on the public screens in their neighborhood for a full thirty minutes two months ago. The video was apparently so scandalous that Ye Wan’s carefully built social network in the affluent district crumbled instantly. When she tried to raise funds, no one was willing to lend her money or associate with the Ye family.

“How could you be so stupid? Why did you approach Huo Youcheng when he despises you?” Ye Wan trembled with rage.

Ye Mu, who had been silently enduring the verbal abuse, suddenly shouted, “Was it my idea to approach him? Wasn’t it you who hinted that I should? You said he still had feelings for me and that I should try to reclaim my position! You even gave me the same drug we used on him before. Who could have predicted he would be so sharp this time, that he would see through it, and I ended up drugged myself, and then… and then…”

His eyes reddened with tears of bitterness and hatred. “If we’re talking about mistakes, the biggest one in this family is you!” He glared at his mother, who had pampered him as her precious child, but had grown increasingly cold and disdainful after his gland was removed. The abrupt change, combined with his recent public humiliation, drove him to an emotional outburst. “If not for your interference, your greed, I wouldn’t be in this mess! You wanted to marry me off to a man a decade older, whom I never liked. It was your greed for wealth and status that ruined my best chance at happiness!”

Ye Wan, shocked by the accusations from her favored youngest child, was initially stunned but soon became enraged. “All my careful planning was for whom? For ghosts? Wasn’t it all for you?” Her anger boiled over, leading to a slap that echoed through the room.

The slap stunned everyone, including Ye Zhi, who was at a loss amidst the family drama. The tension was broken by a leisurely voice, tinged with amusement, “Quite lively here, isn’t it?”

Ye Zhi turned to see Huo Youcheng entering the room.

Since their last encounter, Ye Zhi had only seen Huo Youcheng in video calls. The first time he had received a video call from Huo Youcheng, he was so flustered that his hands trembled as he answered it, only to hear, “I’m looking for Rany.”

Huo Youcheng often chatted with Huo Ran using Ye Zhi’s communicator, sometimes for extended periods. He was always cheerful and affectionate with Huo Ran, but when it came to Ye Zhi, his demeanor turned cold and impatient, leaving Ye Zhi puzzled.

Despite the constant media coverage of his affairs with various celebrities, Huo Youcheng maintained his polished appearance. He wore a perfectly tailored silver-Hui suit, his hair impeccably styled, and his handsome features unmarred. His attire included an exclusive designer brooch, a testament to his wealth.

His spotless shoes avoided the litter on the floor as he approached Ye Zhi, smiling faintly. “Being bullied again?”

Surprisingly, there was a hint of genuine concern in his tone, rather than the usual mockery.

Ye Zhi was taken aback, but before he could respond, Zhou Shaohui spoke up, his voice trembling with barely suppressed rage, “You, you dare to come here?”

Standing beside Ye Zhi, Huo Youcheng elegantly raised an eyebrow. “Why wouldn’t I dare?” He glanced around the house. “I heard this place is going up for auction soon. I’m thinking of buying it… maybe to turn it into an animal shelter. It seems more suitable for beasts than people.”

The insult in his words was clear, making Zhou Shaohui’s face turn a shade of purple with anger. “If it weren’t for your scheming, our family wouldn’t be in this mess!”

Huo Youcheng chuckled as if he’d heard a particularly amusing joke. “My scheming? How did I scheme against you?”

“It was you! Old Zhang was your man. He lured me to the casino, let me win at first, and then I kept losing!”
