Chapter 49

Xiao Yi’s family was mostly informed about the situation, but Fu Yu hadn’t told his parents yet. Although Xiao Yi frequently visited Fu Yu, the elder members of the Fu family believed that they just had a close friendship.

They had initially planned to take things slowly, but fate had other ideas.

On regular workdays, Fu Yu stayed in an apartment closer to his workplace, returning home only on weekends. Over the past two years, his parents had handed over the family business to him, which reduced their involvement in his work. They now had more leisure time and often went out as a couple, not interfering much in their son’s life. They rarely visited his apartment.

However, on this particular day, the couple had just returned from a nearby city after a trip and decided to pass by their son’s community to deliver some souvenirs and local products. They knew Fu Yu was at work at this time, but fortunately, they had a spare key. Their original plan was to leave the gifts and inform their son later. However, as Chen Fang went to wash her hands before leaving, she noticed something was amiss.

There were two toothbrush cups on the sink, two toothbrushes, and even two face towels.

This discovery was alarming, and she quickly ran outside to tell Fu Yu’s father, “Our son seems to have a partner!”

Fu Donghai was also surprised to hear this. He knew his son better than anyone else. Apart from family, there wasn’t anyone particularly close to him. Now, he had an unnoticed live-in partner. It was quite a well-kept secret.

To confirm the situation and out of respect for their son’s privacy, they decided to call Fu Yu directly and inquire.

Fu Yu received the call while at work. He understood the nature of the call and that it was a conversation he couldn’t avoid. He rubbed his temples and finally said, “I’ll tell you when I get back home tonight.”

So, Fu Donghai and Chen Fang anxiously waited in the apartment for two to three hours, and they even prepared dinner for Fu Yu when he returned. However, when Fu Yu arrived home, none of them had the appetite to eat.

“Why did you keep this from us?” Fu Donghai was the first to ask, and his son’s secrecy about such an important matter left him somewhat hurt.

Fu Yu sat on the couch, hands clasped, and admitted, “I was afraid you wouldn’t accept him. I wanted to find the right opportunity to tell you because I really like him, and I can’t imagine being apart from him.”

Chen Fang patted her son’s shoulder and, with a serious tone, said, “We’re not the kind of parents who are overly critical. As long as he has a good character, and you like him, that’s all that matters. We don’t care about anything else. Don’t worry.”

Fu Yu raised his eyes to look at his parents seriously. He had no intention of beating around the bush and chose to ask directly, “Does gender not matter to you either?”

At this point, Chen Fang and Fu Donghai stopped all their actions, and the living room fell into silence.

Fu Yu’s gaze remained unyielding as he confessed, “It’s Xiao Yi.”

This time, the couple’s expressions shifted from surprised to even more surprised. Fu Donghai was the first to regain his ability to speak, “You, you’re not joking, are you?”

“Father, as you know, I’ve never joked about these things,” Fu Yu responded with a serious expression.

At this moment, Chen Fang suddenly had a terrifying thought, and her face turned pale. “Son, you didn’t do this for the company, did you?”

Fu Yu quickly dispelled her unfounded concerns, saying, “No, please don’t overthink it. We simply like each other. The Xiao family has already agreed to it. I’m not asking you to immediately accept it. If you can’t understand, I’ll work hard to make you understand.”

Upon hearing that the Xiao family had agreed to the relationship, his parents were left speechless, even though they were about to ask something else.

Xiao Yi’s family was extremely wealthy, and he was the most favored child in the Xiao family. They could have had any kind of partner they wanted. Even though their son was exceptional, in terms of family background, he was indeed reaching high. If even the Xiao family didn’t object, then it might seem old-fashioned and conservative for them to oppose it. Besides, they had met Xiao Yi many times and could attest to how well he took care of Fu Yu. He would surely not mistreat their son.

Upon this reflection, aside from the same gender issue, they couldn’t find any reason to oppose their relationship.

When Fu Yu noticed his parents’ expressions softening, he continued, “Dad, Mom, you are the most important to me, and I respect your thoughts. But he is equally important to me. I can’t leave him. So, I don’t want to give up one for the other because, to me, having both of you and him by my side is the greatest happiness.”

Both parents felt a heavy shake in their hearts. They looked at their son’s sincere and earnest eyes, and despite their firmness, they couldn’t help but soften.

Chen Fang glanced at her husband and saw the change in their moods reflected in each other’s eyes. Fu Donghai sighed deeply and said, “Let’s invite Xiao Yi over to our house another day. I want to interrogate that kid about how he ‘kidnapped’ my son.”

Upon hearing that Fu Yu had revealed the truth to his parents, Xiao Yi was unhappy and teasingly pulled on Fu Yu’s face, saying, “Why didn’t you call me? If I were there, I could have convinced our parents. They might even thank me.”

Fu Yu pushed his hand away, and lightly replied, “I don’t have your thick skin.”

Xiao Yi got angry and vented his frustration on Fu Yu’s unresponsive lips. By the time of the afternoon meeting, Fu Yu’s lips were slightly swollen, and as a result, Fu Yu didn’t cast a single glance at him during the entire meeting.

Their subordinates, who didn’t understand the playful dynamics between the two, thought that they had some disagreement. One looked aloof and the other unfriendly. The secretary, Jiang Xiaowen, sitting beside Fu Yu, even felt the intense gaze coming from Xiao Yi, making her uneasy. She hastily left the meeting room during a break.

“Hey, did you see Xiao Shao’s expression? It’s so intimidating,” Jiang Xiaowen exclaimed to her colleagues as soon as she returned to the office.

“Yep, I saw it. Fu Boss also had an icy demeanor. Are the young lovers having a fight?”

A male colleague chimed in, “Come on, guys, let’s not speculate. Except for looks, what do they have in common? Although our boss is very capable, how could he seriously be interested in someone like Xiao Boss?”

Jiang Xiaowen added, “We’re just chatting casually. Life is already tough; let us have some fun, right?” She flipped through some documents and realized she had left a notebook in the meeting room. “I’ll go grab something, and I’ll chat with you guys when I get back. Don’t leave me out of the gossip!”

She hurriedly went upstairs, and as the meeting room on the top floor was rarely occupied, it was especially quiet when the meeting adjourned. Jiang Xiaowen hadn’t reached the meeting room’s door when she heard an unusual sound.

“Wait… mmm…”

“Can’t wait…”

Subtle and fragmented gasps emanated from the partially open door of the meeting room. Jiang Xiaowen was startled, but she suppressed her pounding heart and cautiously stepped toward the door, slowly advancing on the thick carpet to peek inside.

She saw their boss, Fu Yu, with his back to the door, leaning against the conference table, trapped between the strong arms of Xiao Yi, who was eagerly kissing him.

Jiang Xiaowen immediately covered her mouth to prevent herself from exclaiming out loud.

Fu Yu, who was typically calm and collected, now had reddened ears and was clutching Xiao Yi’s arms tightly on both sides. His expensive suit sleeves had wrinkled from his grip. He seemed to be kissed to the point where he could hardly breathe. He slightly turned his head and averted his gaze, but Xiao Yi immediately caught his chin, pulled his face back, and firmly embraced his waist. Their passionate kisses became even more intense, and the sounds of their lips and tongues intertwining, along with their soft moans, filled the quiet conference room.

Just as Jiang Xiaowen was about to experience a nosebleed, suddenly, Xiao Yi, who was deeply engrossed in the kiss, lifted his eyes and stared sharply in her direction.

Jiang Xiaowen was terrified and sat down on the floor. Luckily, the carpet absorbed her movements, and she quickly fled from the scene of the unintended voyeurism. She rushed back to her office, closed the door, and leaned against it, trying to catch her breath.

“What’s wrong? Did you see a ghost?” her colleagues asked.

“More shocking than seeing a ghost, do you know that our Boss Fu and Young Master Xiao are actually… in the midst of a fight,” she blurted out.

Her colleagues dismissed her with a “Tsk” sound, not understanding why she was so shocked. Only Jiang Xiaowen was left suppressing her desire to share this earth-shattering gossip, as she feared the consequences.
