Chapter 85

At the Su family’s banquet, Mrs. Su moved gracefully through the crowd, holding a glass of red wine, laughing and chatting with the guests. Despite her composed demeanor, her gaze kept drifting towards the dance floor.

There, her son, Su Yunzhe, was dancing with a strikingly beautiful young girl. Even from across the room, Mrs. Su could see the fire in her son’s eyes as he looked at the girl.

This was exactly what she had hoped for!

She had arranged this dance party to introduce her son to more women, so he would stop thinking about Shen Yan all the time.

But… was it really going this smoothly?

Was her son really the kind of person who would be so enchanted by a beautiful girl at first sight?

And who was that girl, anyway? Mrs. Su didn’t remember inviting anyone like her.

It wasn’t just Mrs. Su; the other guests were also intrigued by Su Yunzhe’s unfamiliar but stunning dance partner. H City was large, but if they were all from the same social circle, they would have at least heard of someone, but no one seemed to recognize this girl.

Su Yunzhe had a bad reputation, and though he was older, had a child, and was considered a heartthrob, his good looks, wealth, and status remained undeniable. Naturally, the high-society women at the banquet had come to see him.

But now, he wasn’t talking to any of them. His attention was entirely focused on this unknown girl, and none of the guests could bear the thought of being overlooked.

It didn’t take long for whispers to start among the women, gossiping with sharp, sarcastic comments.

When the rumors reached Shen Fei’s ears, she was livid. No one had ever dared to say anything bad about her brother in front of her!

Though Shen Fei had just come to terms with the shock of seeing her brother in such an unexpected outfit—she had imagined that he would come to the party dressed to impress, ready to outshine everyone and leave Su Yunzhe dazzled—he had shown up in casual clothes: a T-shirt and comfortable pants. She was so disgusted that she almost dragged him to a studio to fix his image.

But Shen Yan had insisted on refusing, his stance firm. It made Shen Fei wonder—did he have some secret plan?

And sure enough, she hadn’t expected this. He had managed to completely surprise her by showing up dressed as a girl.

Now he was in a white dress, his long hair flowing, dancing with Su Yunzhe in the center of the floor. He looked so stunning that it was almost impossible to look away.

After the initial shock, Shen Fei immediately pulled out her phone to record a video and take a few pictures, eager to share her excitement in the family group chat. After all, she had always thought her little brother looked especially charming when dressed as a girl, and now that he was older, this might be her only chance to capture the moment.

But before she could post anything, she overheard two women gossiping about her brother, calling him a “fox spirit” and “a wild chicken from the mountains.”

Shen Fei’s temper flared immediately. She called over a waiter, grabbed two glasses of wine, and turned around to splash them right in the faces of the two gossips.

The entire banquet was thrown into chaos by Shen Fei’s outburst. In the end, she wrapped her arm around Shen Yan’s, proudly showing him off to the crowd, “Are you all jealous? My little brother. Look at you all—here trying to win over a man, and yet you still lost to him. How embarrassing!”

Her words left everyone stunned, especially Mrs. Su, who stared at Shen Yan, her eyes wide with shock, unable to process what was happening.

But Shen Yan, being the gracious person he was, greeted Mrs. Su with a smile, “Auntie, hello. I’m Shen Yan.”

To match his outfit, Shen Yan didn’t revert to his usual voice, keeping his tone polite and composed.

Strangely, despite knowing he was a man, no one seemed put off by his behavior. On the contrary, they found him even more captivating.

Mrs. Su, in particular, didn’t know what was happening. When Shen Yan flashed her a sweet smile and called her “Auntie,” she found it impossible to dislike him. Instead, she replied, “Ah, hello.”

It wasn’t until after she spoke that Mrs. Su realized she might be losing her composure. This was the same Shen Yan who had caused her so much trouble, coming to her home to flirt with her son and dressing as a girl—it was improper, to say the least.

But… he was handsome, and his mannerisms suggested a pleasant personality. Plus, her son seemed to truly like him.

Mrs. Su wasn’t blind, and in the end, she sighed inwardly. The young people’s affairs weren’t her business anymore.

The evening had descended into chaos after Shen Fei’s outburst, and all focus shifted to Shen Yan. The guests, seeing the situation, no longer felt the need to stay and soon began to leave, one by one.

Su Yunzhe, eager to leave as well, made his way to the door, but Mrs. Su seemed to have an endless number of things to talk to Shen Yan about.

It was at this point that Su Yunzhe threw out another piece of bait, “We’re leaving now, but Hang Hang will stay here tonight.”

At the mention of her grandson staying, Mrs. Su immediately excused herself from Shen Yan and rushed upstairs to join him. The little boy had stayed in the upper rooms throughout the banquet, and Su Yunzhe had planned to bring him back. But now that she heard he would be staying, Mrs. Su was thrilled and completely forgot about Shen Yan.

Shen Yan, now being pulled by Su Yunzhe, couldn’t help but tease, “Is that your real son? You’re just leaving him here like this?”

Su Yunzhe started the car and glanced at him, but said nothing.

Shen Yan, surprised by the lack of response, grew quiet and leaned against the window, gazing at the night outside.

But Su Yunzhe was strangely unsettled.

During their dance earlier, he had noticed something different in himself. When he first saw Shen Yan dressed as a woman, there had been clear astonishment and delight in his eyes. He had taken Shen Yan’s hand, whispered something intimate in his ear, and their closeness had carried a sense of affectionate tension—like something only lovers would share.

Yet as the night wore on, Su Yunzhe’s focus shifted entirely to Shen Yan. He seemed to look at him with a deeper intensity, a look that at times almost seemed to freeze the atmosphere between them. There was even a moment when Su Yunzhe stumbled, stepping on Shen Yan’s foot.

The entire night, Su Yunzhe had said very little. It seemed that only when Shen Yan would ask him something—like when Shen Yan had observed Mrs. Su’s reaction and joked, “Do you think your mom would disown you if she found out I’m Shen Yan?”—that Su Yunzhe would reply.

He had looked at Shen Yan, paused, and said, “No, she doesn’t hate you.”

It had been the same exchange all night, with very little conversation.

At the time, Shen Yan had assumed that Su Yunzhe was simply unbothered by the situation. But now, riding in the car, Shen Yan couldn’t help but wonder if Su Yunzhe was really affected by what was happening.

Shen Yan had dressed as a woman tonight to provoke Su Yunzhe, hoping to elicit some kind of reaction. He had purposefully chosen the same outfit as before, recalling how Su Yunzhe had once expressed a desire to see him in women’s clothes again. But Shen Yan had always refused—after all, it was never something he had done for himself; it had been out of necessity.

Years had passed since then, and Su Yunzhe’s wish to see him in women’s clothes remained unfulfilled. Now, Shen Yan thought maybe he could use this opportunity to stir something in Su Yunzhe.

And judging by the way the night had gone, it seemed like it was working.

When the car finally stopped, Shen Yan realized they had returned to Qing Shui Bay.

Su Yunzhe quickly pulled him out of the car and led him up to the elevator. He was still silent, but the urgency in his demeanor was more pronounced than ever.

Once inside, the door slammed shut behind them, and in the next moment, Su Yunzhe pressed Shen Yan against the door. His lips found Shen Yan’s in a heated kiss.

Su Yunzhe’s impatience was evident, as if he had been holding back for far too long. Shen Yan was caught off guard, his mind swirling with the rapid pace of events. The only thought that passed through his mind was: Was this really all he was in such a rush for?

The alcohol on Su Yunzhe’s breath only added to the dizzying feeling, and Shen Yan found himself responding to the kiss, his arms instinctively wrapping around him.

They fell onto the couch, tangled in each other’s embrace.

For a moment, Shen Yan’s disoriented mind flashed with memories of a similar scene. Su Yunzhe on top of him, pushing him down with desperate urgency, like a fire that couldn’t be quenched… Then, he realized he must have dozed off.

Was this the same as in the book? Shen Yan thought, his lips curling into a smile despite himself.

But just as he did, Su Yunzhe, still above him, paused for a moment, giving him an almost reproachful look—as if to say, Can you focus a little? I’m busy here.

The look reminded Shen Yan of an old memory—a time when Su Yunzhe had been frustrated by his drunken sleepiness, and had no outlet for his desires. It was the same defeated expression, the same frustration.

Unable to resist, Shen Yan reached up to pull him closer, kissing him softly on the lips. He murmured, “Sorry, I promise I won’t fall asleep this time. Is that alright?”

Su Yunzhe froze for a moment, looking deeply into Shen Yan’s eyes. “Yan Yan, tell me the truth… Did I forget something?”

Shen Yan’s heart skipped a beat, and a wave of excitement swept over him. “Did you remember something?” he asked eagerly.

But Su Yunzhe’s face darkened in an instant. He lowered his gaze, his voice tinged with defeat, “Did I really forget? Why can’t I remember? Why is it that I can’t recall anything about you?”

The recent events, especially the interactions between the little one and Shen Yan, had caused Su Yunzhe to question whether he had lost part of his memory—a memory related to his time with Shen Yan.

But he couldn’t feel any gaps in his recollection.

“In fact, aside from not remembering who Hang Hang’s biological parents are, I remember everything else clearly,” Su Yunzhe said, looking up at Shen Yan, his eyes showing a rare sense of helplessness.
