Chapter 15

Fan Xing received his admission email from Tsinghua University five days after returning to China, much faster than he expected. This might be because his grades were indeed good, and the university he got accepted to abroad knew about his situation and even wrote a recommendation letter for him, which should have been a significant help.

In any case, he felt like a weight had been lifted off his chest. He called his grandmother on the same day to share the good news with her.

After hanging up the phone, he realized that he hadn’t contacted Eric yet to inform him about his situation.

He had promised his grandmother that he would get in touch with Eric, but since then, he had been avoiding it, even though he hadn’t been particularly busy. It was like his subconscious was trying to avoid the issue, as if not saying anything would allow him to continue going to the same school as Eric when the semester started.

He shook his head self-deprecatingly, feeling a bit silly.

With everything settled now, he and He Qingmo had obtained their marriage certificate, met their parents, and He Qingmo’s cooperation with the Gu family should be going smoothly. After all, his mother hadn’t called him again, so He Qingmo must have fulfilled his promise to the Gu family. Besides, he had also received his admission notice from Tsinghua University.

It was time to snap out of his daydreams, wasn’t it?

After sitting on the couch with his arms wrapped around his knees for a long time, he finally let out a long sigh, picked up his phone, and found Eric’s number. However, after hesitating several times, he gave up and tossed the phone aside, then opened his laptop.

Maybe he should send an email instead.

Ten minutes later, he had composed a brief email. In it, he informed Eric that after careful consideration, he had decided to return to China for university. He expressed regret that they wouldn’t be classmates and wished Eric a pleasant college life.

It was very formal and courteous, as if they were just ordinary classmates who wrote a routine message in the yearbook when they went their separate ways after the college entrance examination.

But come to think of it, they hadn’t had much interaction to begin with, had they?

At most, it was just him…

Fan Xing shook his head to stop himself from overthinking and closed the laptop. He then went out after a brief tidy-up.

He planned to buy some things. When he returned to China, he hadn’t anticipated that he would settle down here, so he only brought a few changes of clothes.

Even though He Qingmo’s house had everything, there were still some things that couldn’t be skipped, like a pair of well-fitting slippers.

He took the subway to a commercial street near Tsinghua University, intending to shop for some items and also visit his future school.

However, as soon as he arrived at his destination, he received a call from Fan Meixi, saying she wanted to have lunch with him.

Fan Xing had no choice but to postpone his shopping and follow the address Fan Meixi had sent to find the restaurant. It was a stylish-looking Western restaurant.

Fan Meixi had reserved a table in advance, but she arrived only after Fan Xing had drunk three glasses of water.

“Sorry, sorry, my mom’s meeting dragged on. Are you hungry? Let’s order something to eat first,” Fan Meixi said as she hurried in. Despite her hurried pace, she still had a smile on her face, and her voice was gentle and soothing. She even asked Fan Xing what he wanted to eat when they were ordering.

“I’ll eat anything. Just order whatever you like, Mom,” Fan Xing replied.

Fan Meixi praised him casually, “You’re such a good kid, not picky at all. Unlike your troublesome younger brother…”

Fan Xing just smiled and listened. In fact, he didn’t think his mother really considered Gu Mingyu troublesome.

Fan Meixi continued to talk animatedly by herself until they placed their order. Then, she suddenly stopped, reached out to hold Fan Xing’s hand, and looked at him with a gentle and loving expression, tinged with both heartache and gratitude.

She just gazed at him without saying anything, as if looking at her son like this was enough to make her content.

Fan Xing, on the other hand, felt a bit awkward being stared at like that, and his smile on his face felt a bit forced.

In fact, he hadn’t had many formal interactions with Fan Meixi, so the usual mother-son way of being together didn’t quite suit him.

So now, when Fan Meixi looked at him differently from usual, he felt somewhat at a loss.

Fortunately, Fan Meixi quickly had her fill of looking at him. She finally spoke up, her tone filled with joy, “Fan Xing, Mom wants to thank you. It’s thanks to you that Mom was able to get through this difficult time. Just this morning, we signed a five-year cooperation agreement with Mr. He officially, worth over a billion. Fan Xing, this is all thanks to you, the good luck you brought to Mom!”

Fan Xing smiled gently, “It seems to have gone smoothly. Congratulations, Mom.” With that, he raised his glass to toast Fan Meixi.

Fan Meixi was clearly in a great mood. After all, the Gu family had reached a dead end this time, and when she had shown He Qingmo the photos of Fan Xing and several other handsome young men, she had only hoped that He Qingmo would choose any one of them, and if everything went well, he might extend a helping hand to the Gu family. She hadn’t expected that He Qingmo would casually pick Fan Xing’s photo, saying he wanted to marry him, and expressing his willingness to cooperate with the Gu family after the marriage.

In fact, she had been skeptical until she took Fan Xing to the Civil Affairs Bureau. She thought He Qingmo might not really intend to help the Gu family and was just doing it to amuse himself.

However, He Qingmo did appear at the Civil Affairs Bureau as promised, got the certificate, and seemed quite satisfied with Fan Xing. Otherwise, the efficiency of this cooperation agreement wouldn’t have been so high.

Moreover, Fan Xing had also gone to He Qingmo’s home to meet his parents a couple of days ago.

Thinking of this, Fan Meixi couldn’t wait to ask Fan Xing, “Did you really go to Mr. He’s home with him a couple of days ago to meet his parents? How did they treat you?”
