Chapter 55

The heat had once again arrived without warning.

Upon waking up in the morning, the room was already filled with pheromones, and his body began to feel restless.

He knew he wouldn’t be able to leave the house today. He wanted to text Gu Yang to let him know, but for some reason, Gu Yang’s face flashed in his mind, and his pheromones became chaotic in an instant. The overwhelming sense of loss of control, which would have taken some time to build, suddenly peaked.

He felt powerless, unable to do anything, instinctively curling up into a ball, biting down on his wrist to keep a sliver of rationality through the pain.

But it hurt so much!

As his body grew more restless, he felt increasingly empty.

He didn’t know if this heat was more severe than before or if it was because he had been marked in the previous months, making his tolerance lower.

After hours of torment, his self-control and reason were on the verge of collapse; he was about to break.

His mind grew foggy, and his body temperature kept rising.

Finally, he couldn’t even bite down on his wrist anymore. He sunk his teeth into his flesh and weakly let go, unconsciously calling out, “Gu Yang.”

At that moment, Gu Yang had just arrived outside his door, about to push it open, and clearly heard the call. His body stiffened slightly, and he pushed the door open.

In the next second, the sweet scent of stewed pear and rock candy enveloped him, and the omega in heat was helplessly curled up in the corner, his beautiful face flushed with a tempting red. His slender, pale hands trembled as they clutched the bedsheet, deep bite marks on his white wrist, murmuring softly, “Gu Yang, I feel so uncomfortable. Please help me…”

In an instant, the pine scent of Gu Yang’s pheromones went out of control, surging forth and wrapping around the omega on the bed.

The young alpha lost control as well, pulling Lin Xiao Ran into his arms and kissing him deeply.

The warm autumn sunlight slanted through the window, while two sparrows chirped merrily on the creatively trimmed plants on the balcony, occasionally peeking in with their round eyes.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew, startling them into flapping their wings and flying away, leaving only the pots of green leaves swaying gracefully in the breeze.

Inside the room, the beautiful omega finally calmed down, lying limply on the bed as if he had turned into a puddle of clear water.

Gu Yang observed his reaction, gradually loosening his grip. Unable to resist, he leaned down and kissed the maple leaf birthmark on Lin Xiao Ran’s body. The newly marked omega showed no resistance, merely turning to look at him.

His clear eyes still glistened with moisture, his lips slightly swollen, and his sleepwear, disheveled from the earlier struggle, revealed large patches of fair skin.

He looked soft and beautiful.

Seeing Lin Xiao Ran like this stirred Gu Yang’s body again, and he quickly tugged at his collar.

He couldn’t understand why he had so little self-control when it came to Lin Xiao Ran.

Just last night, he had felt nothing in the face of the heat from another omega. A little pheromone leakage was merely instinct, and it didn’t affect him at all.

But every time he caught a whiff of Lin Xiao Ran’s pheromones, he would instantly lose control.

Today was even worse.

Seeing Lin Xiao Ran in heat, tormented by physiological reactions, unconsciously whispering his name, made Gu Yang realize his response was even more severe than the omega’s heat.

If he hadn’t regained a bit of rationality at the last moment, he feared he would have already taken things too far.

Fearing further loss of control, he quickly averted his gaze from Lin Xiao Ran’s face and pulled him to sit on the bed. His voice was still husky: “Let me see your wrist.”

Lin Xiao Ran obediently extended his injured wrist towards him.

The bite marks were even deeper than last time, embedded deeply in the flesh, blood oozing out.

Gu Yang’s brow furrowed deeply, filled with concern. “Wait here; I’ll go get the first aid kit.”

Having lived here for a week before, he knew the layout well. He quickly retrieved a small first aid kit from under the TV cabinet in the living room, carefully tending to Lin Xiao Ran’s wrist.

As he disinfected and bandaged the wound, Lin Xiao Ran suddenly recalled a similar scene from two months ago, the night he found Gu Yang at the internet café.

Gu Yang had been just like this, head lowered, bangs covering his eyes, but still showing his focus and seriousness, as if the treatment of this small injury were of utmost importance.

At that time, Lin Xiao Ran thought he was overreacting, finding it troublesome to bandage such a minor injury.

Now, however, his mindset was completely different; he didn’t think Gu Yang was being overly cautious at all. Instead, he felt a sweet warmth in his heart.

His lips involuntarily curled up slightly as he softly called, “Gu Yang.”

“Hmm?” Gu Yang replied in a low voice, just finishing bandaging the wound and placing the first aid kit on the nearby table when his amber eyes caught sight of a syringe on the edge of the table.

“I think I should…”
Lin Xiaoran’s rosy lips moved, but just as he began to speak, the words got stuck in his throat.

He watched as Gu Yang reached for the syringe on the corner of the table, his heart racing. Before he could explain, Gu Yang’s pheromones flared up again, and he turned to grab Lin Xiaoran’s wrist, pulling him close and exclaiming in frustration, “Lin Xiaoran, are you really planning to use this?”

What Gu Yang held was the alpha pheromone extract that Lin Lan had brought back from abroad, intended as a precaution. But Lin Xiaoran didn’t understand why he always ran into Gu Yang whenever he had it.

In the previous two instances, he hadn’t grasped why Gu Yang was so angry about it. Now, he finally understood.

He recalled how he felt last night when he learned Gu Yang was with an omega in heat—Gu Yang was probably feeling just as he had then.

It was likely even worse for him.

Alphas inherently possess a strong desire to claim omegas, independent of emotions; it’s a natural instinct that drives them to keep their omegas away from any other kind of interaction.

Especially since Gu Yang liked him, that desire must be even stronger.

So, seeing Gu Yang in a fit of anger tugged at Lin Xiaoran’s heart.

“Gu Yang,” he said softly, looking into Gu Yang’s eyes, his voice misty and gentle, “If I really wanted to use it, would I have held off until now?”

Gu Yang’s amber eyes momentarily paused, his anger dissipating, replaced by a joy that was difficult to put into words. He couldn’t help but ask, “What do you mean—”

But before he could finish, there was a knock at the door, and Lin Lan’s voice came through, “Xiaoran, Yangyang, are you in there?”

Lin Lan’s voice snapped both of them back to reality. The room was still thick with their lingering pheromones, predominantly Gu Yang’s, and if Lin Lan walked in, she might mistakenly think they had done something inappropriate.

What’s more, their current bond was far more than a simple mark; if Gu Yang hadn’t managed to hold back, they might still be entangled.

Feeling a bit guilty, Lin Xiaoran quickly replied, “Yeah, Mom, we’re doing homework. We’ll be out soon.”

Fortunately, Lin Lan usually wouldn’t just walk into Lin Xiaoran’s room. She called from outside, “Okay, I made lunch. Hurry out to eat.”

With that distraction, the two quickly got off the bed.

Now that Lin Xiaoran was likely to be marked by Gu Yang, he typically kept a barrier agent on hand, which came in handy now.

They both sprayed the barrier agent on their glands and around the room to ensure there was no trace of pheromones. Just as Lin Xiaoran was about to pull Gu Yang out, Gu Yang quickly pulled him back and pointed at Lin Xiaoran’s neck, a bit embarrassed. “You have… a kiss mark on your neck.”

Lin Xiaoran: “…”

He instantly recalled everything that had happened before the temporary marking, and his face flushed slightly. He shot Gu Yang a glare before grabbing a turtleneck sweater from the closet to change into.

Usually, Lin Lan didn’t come home for lunch, but since Lin Xiaoran was home and Gu Yang had come over, she worried they might go hungry, so she made a quick trip back to prepare a meal, though she had little time and just tossed together a couple of dishes.

“Yangyang, I’m in a hurry today. Just make do with this. I’ll cook a proper meal for you another time when I’m free.”

“Thank you, Auntie.”

“Are you two going out in the afternoon? Don’t just stay home all the time. Yangyang, take Xiaoran out for some fun; he just likes to stay in.”

“Sure, I’ll definitely drag him out this afternoon.”

They chatted over lunch, with Lin Xiaoran remaining silent and quietly eating.

Lin Lan was pressed for time, so after they finished eating, she rushed off. The moment she left, Gu Yang, who had been polite just moments before, suddenly changed demeanor, grabbing Lin Xiaoran and pulling him close, cornering him between himself and the door. His amber eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint as he leaned in and whispered, “Now, let’s continue. Tell me, why have you been holding back and not using that thing?”

Lin Xiaoran was startled by his sudden action but didn’t struggle. He leaned back against the wall and looked at Gu Yang. “I don’t want to use it.”

Gu Yang liked that answer, but it wasn’t enough.

He lowered his head, coming even closer to Lin Xiaoran, almost nose-to-nose, his voice low and husky, “Why don’t you want to use it?”

Being this close, Gu Yang’s breath lingered against Lin Xiaoran’s face, and the uncontainable anticipation in his amber eyes made Lin Xiaoran’s heart race. He felt that familiar tension again but didn’t shy away, holding Gu Yang’s gaze as he replied clearly, “Because it’s not yours.”

Yes, because it wasn’t Gu Yang’s.

In that moment, when he was overwhelmed by the heat, he had genuinely considered using it. But as soon as he held the syringe, all he could think of was Gu Yang. His body craved the alpha’s pheromones, yet his heart couldn’t accept it.

He couldn’t accept the thought of injecting the pheromone that was not Gu Yang’s into his body to comfort himself.

So when his body was almost going crazy, he forced himself to put the injection back.

Instantly, Gu Yang’s peach blossom eyes, which were always smiling, lost their smile, and he looked at him blankly, as if he had become stupid.

Gu Yang, who always gave people the impression that he could remain calm in any situation, unexpectedly had such a silly side.

Lin Xiaoran couldn’t help laughing, stretched out his arms to wrap around his neck, looked into his eyes, and said solemnly: “Gu Yang, I like you, I want you as my boyfriend.” After that, he took the initiative to put his lips on Gu Yang’s.

The warm and soft touch, with the smell of Lin Xiaoran, touched his lips. Gu Yang seemed to have just come back to his senses from the great surprise. His big, bony hands followed the smooth back and went up to hold the back of Lin Xiaoran’s head, taking back the initiative.

But this time he was not as excited as the previous times. He hugged and kissed the person gently, as if he was using this method to confirm that this person was his.

Lin Xiaoran was amused by his silliness, which instantly aroused the dissatisfaction of the gentle alpha. He held his mouth tightly and put his tongue in, and the action became more intense.

“Ouch…”

The omega who was having trouble breathing could not help but protest, and his legs struggled unbearably. He didn’t know what he hit, but the conquering alpha suddenly let go of him and groaned.

Lin Xiaoran was stunned for a moment, and subconsciously lowered his head, and his face flushed instantly.
