Chapter 75

Just as Gu Yang was about to cut the vegetables, he froze when he heard Lin Xiaoran’s words. Quickly putting down the knife, he walked over and hugged him, apologizing, “Sorry, baby, I wasn’t paying attention. I’ll go buy the morning-after pill now.”

The two hadn’t seen each other for a month. Just when he wanted to fly to Lin Xiaoran’s side, Lin Xiaoran suddenly appeared in front of him. In that moment, he couldn’t focus on anything else—he just wanted to undress him and have him all to himself.

So, he really didn’t remember the condom.

But it was still his fault.

Lin Xiaoran was an Omega, and even though he was male, it was still easy for him to get pregnant.

They had just graduated, and both were at the beginning stages of their careers. This wasn’t the best time for pregnancy.

That’s why Gu Yang always took precautions to prevent unwanted pregnancies when they were together.

This was one of the few times he forgot. He rushed out to the convenience store downstairs to buy the morning-after pill.

When he came back, he saw his beautiful boyfriend wrapped in a blanket, curled up on the sofa watching TV.

It had been five years since their high school graduation, but it seemed as though time had left no mark on his Omega.

The Omega sitting on the sofa with his dark hair and clean, delicate features was still the same handsome young man from their school days.

No, he was even more handsome now. Apart from his natural purity, five years later, Lin Xiaoran now exuded a sweetness brought on by love, making him appear as if he were surrounded by happiness.

Gu Yang knew that this change was something he had brought into Lin Xiaoran’s life.

While he was satisfied, there was also a sense of unease.

His Omega was so perfect. He couldn’t even imagine how many people must have coveted him during their school days. Even though they had just entered university, Gu Yang had already claimed him during the school’s orientation party, and for the next five years, people had continually tried to win Lin Xiaoran’s heart.

Even though they had graduated from university, Gu Yang still couldn’t relax when it came to his work.

Not only were there colleagues at the hospital, but the patients kept flocking to the department Lin Xiaoran worked in.

A few times, when Gu Yang went to pick him up from work, he had encountered different patients who used excuses to thank Lin Xiaoran, trying to invite him out to dinner. Although Lin Xiaoran always refused, Gu Yang couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

Of course, when Lin Xiaoran was working, wearing a white coat and gold-rimmed glasses while seriously analyzing patients’ conditions, he was incredibly attractive.

If Lin Xiaoran didn’t work at a hospital owned by the Gu family, Gu Yang probably would have used his position as the heir to the Gu family to secretly manipulate situations and get his boyfriend alone in the department.

Gu Yang prided himself on having strong self-control, but even he couldn’t help having impure thoughts when he saw his boyfriend like that. What about others?

But deep down, Gu Yang knew the source of his anxiety was that he hadn’t fully marked Lin Xiaoran.

“Hm?” Lin Xiaoran, curled up on the sofa, noticed that Gu Yang had been staring at him at the doorway for a while, looking lost in thought. He blinked his long lashes and asked, “What are you looking at? Where’s the medicine?”

Gu Yang walked over and placed the pill in Lin Xiaoran’s hand. He then sat next to him, watching as he took the pill before pulling him into an embrace. He buried his face in the crook of Lin Xiaoran’s neck, rubbing against him, his voice a little sticky. “Ranran, when can I fully mark you?”

“?” Lin Xiaoran, confused, tilted his head. “Are you talking about my next heat?”

In fact, because of their bet during the college entrance exams, Gu Yang hadn’t fully marked him back then. Even though Lin Xiaoran had said he would go with the flow, he had actually been ready to be marked by Gu Yang since high school.

For some reason, every time Lin Xiaoran went into heat in their senior year, Gu Yang was there, but after university, they hadn’t been able to sync up.

They didn’t attend the same college, didn’t live in the same dorms, and were both busy with their respective commitments. Even when Lin Xiaoran called Gu Yang during his heat, he wasn’t always at school.

So, when Lin Xiaoran used his pheromone extract that day, it left a mark on his glands, and Gu Yang promised to never let Lin Xiaoran use it again—but he never followed through.

Because Lin Xiaoran’s heats weren’t fixed, to prevent accidents, Gu Yang would extract his pheromones and have Lin Xiaoran carry it with him.

That solved the issue of Lin Xiaoran’s heat, so he didn’t always need Gu Yang around, which is why Gu Yang hadn’t fully marked him yet.

Gu Yang knew that Lin Xiaoran wasn’t unwilling, but he didn’t understand why it was so hard for them to make the full mark official.

He thought about how, when Lin Xiaoran next went into heat, he might be working overtime, and Lin Xiaoran might be busy with patients, needing to use his pheromones. Gu Yang worried that they wouldn’t be able to fully mark each other.

If they truly wanted to mark each other completely, they’d probably need a whole month to spend together.

Gu Yang would be more than willing, but time was tight, especially now that Lin Xiaoran had just started working, and it wasn’t feasible for him to take that long of a break.

So, that would have to wait.

“Hey, I’ve got a question.” Lin Xiaoran could tell Gu Yang was disappointed, but since there was nothing they could do now, he decided to change the subject. “Is there still food left for dinner?”

“Eh?”

It was only then that Gu Yang remembered he was supposed to be cooking dinner.

By the time they’d gone through all of this, it was already dark, and the kitchen was still filled with half-finished dishes.

But since Lin Xiaoran had finally returned, Gu Yang didn’t want him to eat takeout. He knew that Lin Xiaoran probably ate out or at the hospital cafeteria most days, so he ruffled his boyfriend’s soft, black hair and let him go to the kitchen to cook.

The next day, since they were both off work, Gu Yang insisted on going out on a date.

Since university, their dates had always been the same—shopping, eating, watching movies, then dinner.

Perhaps because these dates had become routine, Gu Yang decided to find a more romantic place and arranged a candlelight dinner.

Lin Xiaoran, who once thought candlelight dinners were cliché, didn’t mind them anymore. The key was that the restaurant Gu Yang found had delicious food that suited his taste.
After the eventful evening, they should have naturally returned home, taken a shower, and shared a tender moment together. Unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen. Gu Yang had to send Lin Xiaoran back to the hospital tonight since Lin Xiaoran had to work early the next morning. They couldn’t waste any time.

After crossing the entire city, Gu Yang parked the car outside the hospital dormitory building near midnight. Thinking about the fact that their next meeting might be in half a month, or even a month, he hesitated before letting Lin Xiaoran out. He pulled him back for one last kiss, pressing him against the passenger seat, kissing him again and again.

Lin Xiaoran didn’t rush him. Instead, he wrapped his arms around Gu Yang. In this time of being apart often, Lin Xiaoran missed him just the same.

But no matter how hard it was to part, Gu Yang eventually released him, got out of the car, and escorted him into the building. After watching Lin Xiaoran go inside, Gu Yang sighed softly, turned, and drove away.

Lin Xiaoran’s dorm was on the sixth floor. His roommate, who also worked at the hospital, kept a regular schedule and went to bed around ten if they didn’t have night shifts. So, when Lin Xiaoran got back at this hour, he tried to be extra quiet, changing into slippers by the door. He was about to go straight to his room when suddenly someone knocked.

Surprised, Lin Xiaoran opened the door, only to find Lu Ting holding a large serving of grilled skewers, smiling as he spoke. “Just got back? Have you eaten dinner? I ordered a lot of barbecue, thought I’d bring some over.”

“No need.” Lin Xiaoran curtly refused and closed the door without further words.

Lu Ting was a classmate from university who had obvious feelings for Lin Xiaoran, and everyone in the medical school knew about it. Even though Lin Xiaoran wasn’t oblivious to his intentions, Lu Ting never explicitly confessed. And so, Lin Xiaoran never had the chance to turn him down directly.

It wasn’t an issue at first—after all, they both graduated and went their separate ways. But fate had a way of bringing them back together, both ending up at the same hospital.

On the day Lin Xiaoran moved into his dorm, Lu Ting, whose home was near the hospital, also moved into a nearby dorm—right across from Lin Xiaoran’s. From then on, no matter the time, Lu Ting would always find a reason to stop by, sometimes asking to borrow a pen or bringing food over.

If it were any other colleague being friendly, Lin Xiaoran wouldn’t mind. But Lu Ting’s gestures were always too purposeful, even though Lin Xiaoran tried to ignore it. It didn’t escape the notice of other coworkers, and before long, rumors started to spread.

Lin Xiaoran, not one to shy away from confrontation, eventually addressed the issue head-on. He went straight to Lu Ting and said, “I have a boyfriend. Please stop doing unnecessary things.”

But for some reason, Lu Ting didn’t take the hint. Even though Lin Xiaoran rejected him, Lu Ting continued to persist.

This became a bit of a joke among the hospital staff, but Lin Xiaoran didn’t let it bother him. He simply continued to reject every offer, and closed the door on Lu Ting.

He didn’t know that Lu Ting had stood outside his dorm door for a long time, still holding the plate of grilled skewers. It wasn’t until someone else came upstairs that Lu Ting finally snapped out of his daze, greeting the passerby before heading back to his own dorm.

Inside his quiet room, Lin Xiaoran sat in the corner under a lamp, eating the cold skewers he had left, then wiped his mouth and hands slowly with a tissue. As he picked up his wallet, he noticed it wasn’t filled with cash—just a neatly folded tissue inside.

He carefully pulled it out, holding it like a precious treasure, bringing it to his nose and taking a deep breath. A blissful expression crossed his face.

Meanwhile, after a shower, Lin Xiaoran had already gone to bed. He called Gu Yang to wish him goodnight, reminding him to drive slowly, and then lay down to sleep. Little did he know, the tissue he had carelessly discarded would be retrieved from the trash and cherished by someone else.

Lu Ting, intoxicated by the scent, held the tissue close, imagining Lin Xiaoran, consumed by thoughts of him.

At the same time, Lu Ting received a message: Good news. Your idol, Dr. Lin, hasn’t been fully marked by Gu Yang yet, so he can’t resist your pheromones. Want to test the waters and make things happen?
