Chapter 12

In the morning when Xue Wensong and Lin Lu arrived at the company, it happened to be the start of the workday, so Xiao Wang didn’t think there was anything wrong with the two of them appearing together. But when he saw Xue Wensong leaving with Lin Lu, he felt something was off. So when Tan Xiao returned from the restroom and passed by the front desk, he stopped her, “Tan Jie, what was that person from P University here to visit?”

“P University?” Tan Xiao was momentarily stunned, then smiled, “He came to visit his own industry.”

“His own industry?” Xiao Wang’s mind immediately conjured up the image of the son of the office building’s landlord.

“This company is jointly owned by him and his wife.”

Tan Xiao casually dropped a bombshell and walked into the office, leaving Xiao Wang petrified in place.

So, the person just now was the boss’s wife? What did he say!

The workplace was indeed terrifying!

Xue Wensong had a lunch meeting in the afternoon and had to attend a government briefing afterward. After sending Lin Lu back to the apartment, he reminded him to concentrate on revising his thesis before leaving.

Lin Lu didn’t have much appetite to cook, so he simply threw together some leftover ingredients from last night to make fried rice. Even though it smelled good, he didn’t have much of an appetite.

After taking a nap in the afternoon, Lin Lu started to revise his thesis again. He had been at it for a while, but he couldn’t shake off the image of Xue Wensong and Xiao Wang working together. So he opened Weibo to check Lu Shaoyang’s updates.

Lu Shaoyang was filming a movie with a communist theme in a seaside town. Occasionally, he would share some photos of the town or the sea dyed in the colors of the sunset on his Weibo. Lin Lu liked each post one by one, then opened Lu Shaoyang’s photo album to admire his idol’s selfies.

After looking at them for a while, Lin Lu mechanically scrolled through the photos, his mind drifting away.

How many companies would participate in that government project?

Lin Lu absentmindedly exited Lu Shaoyang’s Weibo and typed in a few keywords in the search bar. The next moment, he saw a recent news photo of Xue Wensong and Ji Xingye walking out of the government building side by side.

Lin Lu’s eyes froze, and he quickly read the text.

The news didn’t speculate on the current situation between the two, just objectively mentioned that both of them would compete for the same project.

Lin Lu glanced at the photo again. Xue Wensong still looked indifferent, but Ji Xingye was smiling at him.

What would they say?

Lin Lu thought about the scene at the wedding banquet. Would Ji Xingye invite Xue Wensong to stay overnight at his place again?

Just as he was thinking about this, Lin Lu’s phone suddenly vibrated, and the screen displayed the words “Big Tiger.” He quickly answered the call, and Xue Wensong’s voice came through: “Little buddy, I’ll be home later tonight. You go ahead and sleep, no need to wait for me.”

Lin Lu clenched the phone tightly, his throat so dry he couldn’t speak.

“Lu Lu?” Xue Wensong didn’t hear a response, looked at the screen strangely, and then called again, “Baby?”

“I got it.” Lin Lu finally found his voice, “You… you go ahead…”

Xue Wensong sensed something unusual in Lin Lu’s tone, furrowing his brow. “What’s wrong, baby?”

Lin Lu took several deep breaths, mustering up the courage to ask, “Are you going to Ji Xingye’s house?”

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, then a light laugh followed. “It’s the first day of the new company’s opening today. I’m taking them out for dinner. Do you want to come?”

“No, no need!” Lin Lu quickly hung up the phone.

Lin Lu felt he was being too abnormal. He and Xue Wensong weren’t officially married, yet he seemed to be overly concerned.

At this moment, Lin Lu had no mood to work on his thesis anymore. He took out the crumpled script and started familiarizing himself with his lines from the beginning.

Xue Wensong had originally planned to come home later, but thinking of Lu Baobao’s seemingly jealous words, he didn’t want to waste any more time with his employees. So, after dinner, he handed over the card to Tan Xiao, letting them play on their own.

In the evening, Lin Lu received the news that the web series would start filming this Friday. As one of the class members, he had two scenes where his face would be shown in the first scene where the homeroom teacher introduces the male lead as a transfer student.

Lin Lu’s mood wasn’t great in the afternoon, and his mind was a mess, but upon receiving this news, all those scattered emotions vanished. When Xue Wensong returned home, he even took the initiative to take Xue Wensong’s suit jacket from him.

“You’re back.” Lin Lu said excitedly, anyone could see the joy in his eyes.

Lin Lu’s happiness was because of the filming, but Xue Big Tiger automatically interpreted little deer’s happiness as him coming home early.

“Waiting for me?” Xue Wensong asked.

He was already prepared. As long as Lin Lu said yes, he would pull little deer into his arms and give him a firm kiss. However, Lin Lu naturally replied, “No, didn’t you say you’d come back later?”

Xue Wensong: “…”

He retracted his slightly awkward right hand raised halfway, awkwardly cleared his throat, “What’s got you so happy?”

“The web series is starting this Friday!”

“…Is it?” Xue Wensong changed into slippers, loosening his tie as he walked towards the closet.

“I have a scene on the first day!” Lin Lu chattered behind Xue Wensong, completely unaware of Xue Wensong’s lack of interest in the topic. “And I have five more appearances afterward, with lines in two of them.”

“Ah, that’s nice.” Xue Wensong lazily responded, unbuttoning his shirt and taking it off.

Lin Lu had seen Xue Wensong’s bare upper body several times already, but he still couldn’t help but stare blankly. Having lived with Xue Wensong for over a week, he knew that Xue Wensong had good exercise habits.

Xue Wensong’s muscles were well-defined, with beautiful square chest muscles, neatly arranged chocolate abs. Sometimes, when he wore a loosely draped towel after a shower, one could even catch a glimpse of his tantalizing V-line.

Lin Lu had seen many actors at the film and television city, but he found that many actors’ figures and looks couldn’t compare to Xue Wensong’s.

Speaking of which, Lin Lu also had muscle lines on his body, but the lines on his body were more like the remnants of youth, exuding a sense of youthfulness.

“What are you staring at?” Xue Wensong said as he undid his belt, unzipping his pants. Lin Lu quickly averted his gaze and turned around.

“It’s a pity you’re not an actor.” Lin Lu looked down at the floor and said.

Xue Wensong knew Lin Lu was praising him, but using actors as a standard of measure made him a bit unhappy. He said, “Isn’t it a pity if I leave the IT industry?”

“…Well, that seems even more of a pity.”

Xue Wensong changed into his home clothes, sat on the edge of the bed, and held Lin Lu’s waist, turning him around to face him. “Why did you think I would go to Ji Xingye’s place?”

The sudden topic caught Lin Lu off guard, and he didn’t want to confront those strange thoughts in his mind in this way, so he subconsciously wanted to escape. But Xue Wensong immediately noticed his intention and firmly held onto his waist.

“Saw the news, huh?” Xue Wensong opened his legs, pulling Lin Lu in front of him.

“Um, I, I just happened to see it.” Lin Lu fibbed again.

“What did the news say?”

“Not much…” Lin Lu whispered, “Just said you guys would compete on a project, and the results are worth looking forward to.”

Xue Wensong chuckled, “I thought it was some gossip tabloid. Even with serious news, you still think crookedly?”

“I, I didn’t think crookedly, I just…”

“Just what?” Xue Wensong squinted his eyes, trying hard to hold back the smile on his face.

“The person I like is my idol, and there’s no chance of anything happening between us.” Lin Lu explained.

“Is that so.” Xue Wensong lightly laughed.

As long as it’s not someone close, just an elusive idol, there’s nothing to fear.

“Why are you staring blankly?” Xue Wensong said, undoing his belt and unzipping his pants. Lin Lu quickly retracted his gaze and turned away.

As long as it’s not someone close, just an elusive idol, there’s nothing to fear.

Lin Lu bit his lip, afraid to say more. He felt like Xue Wensong could see right through him, fearing being led into a rhythm he couldn’t control.

Xue Wensong knew that little deer had started to care about him, he just wasn’t clear about it yet. So he asked in a coaxing manner, “Are you afraid that I’ll cheat on you?”

He intended for Lin Lu to figure out the answer himself, but Lin Lu, with his head lowered in thought, finally said reluctantly after much pondering, “If you want to cheat, go ahead. I know I have no right to demand anything from you.”

Xue Wensong: “…”

Xue Wensong sighed, releasing his hold on Lin Lu’s waist, his hands resting behind him. “Don’t worry, I would never cheat.”

Lin Lu’s eyes were filled with confusion. “Why not?”

“With such a cute little deer baby at home, why would I want to cheat?” Xue Wensong teased.

Lin Lu blushed suddenly, not understanding the meaning behind Xue Wensong’s words.

Xue Wensong didn’t expect any particular reaction from Lin Lu. He chuckled and explained, “Actually, I made an agreement with Qin Ge. If I were to cheat, the company would belong to him.”

Lin Lu quickly caught on. So this was indeed a marriage agreement. He curiously asked, “What did you and the Qin family discuss exactly?”

Xue Wensong replied casually, “All you need to know is that you own 49% of the company.”

At this point, Lin Lu was clever enough to ask, “Is it mine or the Qin family’s?”

Xue Wensong reached out to pinch Lin Lu’s cheek. “That depends on whose side you’re on.”

It was only now that Lin Lu understood. It turned out that it wasn’t just Xue Wensong being targeted by the hunter, but also himself.

He clenched his fists and without hesitation said, “I will definitely stand by your side.”

A deep color flashed in Xue Wensong’s eyes. He hooked his leg, causing Lin Lu to stumble forward. Xue Wensong caught him and planted a kiss on the corner of his mouth. “Late at night, don’t tempt me.”
